I have an 03 1150gs. Servicing is a piece of cake. All accessible. Parts are readily available from either a main dealer or more likely for a 16yr old bike…somewhere like Motorworks.
The 1100 were the last of the properly build BMWs before they reduced quality to reduce price to combat the grey imports of the late 90s. Buy it, you’ll enjoy itdave661350Full MemberNo tip from us either. They occasionally leave a bin un-emptied with a ‘too heavy’ label on. Utter drivel. The same design of truck and identical mechanism on the back…and similar sized blokes seem to empty our garden waste bin that the wife can’t even move.
dave661350Full MemberI get a big cash lump sum for vehicles hence wanting to spend it !
I don’t quite get why you’re so bothered about a discount if you get a big cash lump sum….
dave661350Full MemberStart by looking at how you’d get into your house if you lost your keys….easily ? Fix those issues. With difficulty ? You’re halfway there. I don’t have a house alarm, never have had, relying on hard security instead. (sorry, doesn’t help the ‘what alarm question’
dave661350Full MemberYou may need a mixture of the above tools…and a couple of mates, lay on bacon sarnies and maybe a beer late afternoon and get it done in a day whilst having a laugh….keep swapping the tool you’re using with said mates
dave661350Full MemberCostco do this stuff.

It was £99 delivered a few months back.
I have put down on top of the foam things from Halfords. Seems to work welldave661350Full MemberI particularly love the good old British ‘I won’t be chipping in, no one helped me’ mentality.
Through sheer luck, I appear to have been born at a good time ‘financially’. My kids haven’t. Mad house prices, a race to the bottom in wages in many jobs markets. Instilling a work ethic and some assistance financially is the least I can do.dave661350Full MemberOne of mine has just graduated, close to £50k debt. 5 years or so ago when we were looking round the various unis; we mentioned, in passing, fees/debts to a youngish lecturer and the fact that we would be helping as much as we could to keep her debt low. We were quickly put on the right path. Take the max living costs loan and tuition fees and any money we may have put into the pot, use for other things once she graduates and starts work. She started work recently and is paid below the £2k threshold but would struggle for years to save for a deposit for a house. She loves the work and may end up in a loved but low paid job for years. The money we would have given to pay fees will go towards deposit which we feel far better about.
She doesn’t even think about the debt, she views it like most others as a tax that may or may not be paid back. If she starts to earn very well, she may pay it all back but will have sufficient to live with, with what is left each month.dave661350Full MemberFirst proper ride in anything other than dry track today. Blimey, the Crossroc roam tyres are dire. Never ridden a bike that felt so bad. I’ll rattle through the 44 pages to see what others have swapped to unless anyone wants to save me the hassle. Thanks
dave661350Full MemberIt certainly isn’t 220-age.

dave661350Full MemberI e-mailed Cannondale who state that they will be doing the work, they will credit stores to remove the fork and they will also arrange collection ‘so you should not be charged for this’. I won’t be paying the £20 unless it is totally refundable. (surely dealers know they’ll be refunded? I have a motorcycle and any warranty work is authorised by the manufacturer and I am not charged, the dealer claims back costs from manufacturer…like Cannondale state should happen)
dave661350Full MemberI just spoke to AllTerrain on the phone.
“Drop the bike off, we’ll take the fork off and send it to Cannondale or whoever it is that is fixing them and then call you when it’s ready, it’ll be £20 for our labour and postage.”Erm, no it bloody won’t be. I am not paying a penny so I either ring other dealers and see who will do it for free (pretty sure like most other ‘warranty issues’ they will be reimbursed for their labour??)
dave661350Full MemberHad them for 20yrs now. Did a Polaris or two on it with someone at ST Towers way back when…lugging a BOB box behind it and brewing up some fresh coffee on the overnight camp
This is ours.
http://ventanausa.com/gallery/3david_elconq.jpgdave661350Full MemberIt really pisses me off the idea we can kill people through negligence, if it was a workplace the HSE would be all over it! But its only a road “accident” oh well….
What a stupid comment. This fatal COLLISION will be thoroughly investigated at the behest of HM Coroner. It’s not a recent thing to now call them collisions as ‘accident’ gives the idea that it was just that…and it seldom is. There is generally someone to blame.
RIP to the cyclist involved. Very saddave661350Full MemberYou could wade through the RIPA….it won’t affect you tho…
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/23/contentsOr just do it. Does anyone really think either a landowner or potentially a magistrate is going to worry about a decent, honest, concerned member of the public trying to stop fly tipping….
dave661350Full MemberI’ve got the 90l Overboard bag. It is superb. Have had the usual ME bags in the past, this feels better made than them and would happily recommend it. (Also have a LOMO but that’s 60 l but superb for the cost !)
dave661350Full MemberIf going down the solar route, go with a leisure battery rather than a car battery. Designed to have a slower discharge of their power.
dave661350Full MemberThe banking system can be gained from.. if you can be arsed
And IF you have a pretty numeric way of looking at things. An artist mate of mine is brilliant at what he does but away with the fairies when it comes to finance, does he listen to a mate ? A financial advisor who has his or her own interests at heart ? Its sometimes not as easy as saying that folk are just lazy
dave661350Full MemberI wouldn’t do much exercise concentrating on your back until you know exactly why it aches. I hurt my back years ago, saw the Doc, saw a physio who said ‘it’s probably…’ that wasn’t good enough for me so I kept looking for an answer as to what I had actually done. I eventually saw an osteopath who diagnosed it and as a result got me an MRi scan sorted. This confirmed what he had said. I had perhaps 4 sessions and my back was right as rain for year after (he gave me specific exercises related to my issue)
dave661350Full MemberWe have Conti Vertical Pro on our Ventana, Seem fine for our combined 24 stone (never had heavy luggage on board) Your requirements really do seem like the moon on a stick and I’d go heavier on the tyres to ensure you get longevity
dave661350Full MemberThe 75 is a very sweet bike, a better more balanced engine than the 1000. Enjoy it
dave661350Full MemberIf you are going on the tunnel, the tag is free and 6 euro a yr (20 euro refundable deposit) At that price it is worth it IF you are doing any considerable distance via the motorways.
https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/Eurotunnel-Le-Shuttle-Offer-Landing-Pagedave661350Full MemberExcellent, Hope you finish it sufficiently for a decent trip.
dave661350Full MemberMine has just finished at Uni Of Surrey,,an expensive place to live (Guildford) She had the max loan available at £3575 or thereabouts. She had a part time job that paid perhaps £120 a month and we subbed her £400 a month (incl the 3 mths she wasn’t there). She got by, not much spare for treats etc but £9000+ for 40 weeks is over £200 a week. (her accom was around £125 a week and she saved a bit for when she was home during holidays.
dave661350Full MemberI think I’d stop short of calling it a horrendous act, its a burglary; possibly the old fashioned ‘do em again when they’ve re-stocked’. I wonder what, if any, security additions they made after the first break in?
dave661350Full MemberSome great deals on the outgoing 520d tourer. A nicer drive than any of the psuedo 4 x 4s you mention.
dave661350Full MemberYou could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire with the BMW as someone has alluded to..it may be another lemon.
My twopenneth worth…what you typed abopve re annual check seems to read as just that…a check, NOT a service (happy to stand corrected)
Ring another Vauxhall dealer and ask how much they charge for the annual check then get it serviced elsewhere far far cheaper using parts bought from Vauxhall, keeping receipts. That is if you actually want to keep the car.
In your shoes I’d be part-exing it and buying something else nearly new rather than 7 yrs old. Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda etc…..dave661350Full MemberI am staggered that there seem to be no other team like Sky who plan and think things thru and seem to have alternate plans should things alter significantly. Is it Dave Brailsfords guiding hand ?
dave661350Full MemberI’m gonna go out a limb and suggest someone in a
carshaped
Object overshot theblind sweeping bend
Call me Columbo.Don’t know about Columbo…
From how OP describes it, it sounds like the ‘offending vehicle’ for want of a better term will be one of the two carshaped markings and perhaps the next vehicle following the cyclist is the other, (this 2nd vehicle wasx also struck by another cyclist) I don’t know what happened but having cycled and driven that road daily for donkeys years, i’d say it was more likely to have been the cyclist who overcooked it on his descent rather than the car.
As above tho, RIPdave661350Full MemberHas your other half checked that his company will also insure your 18yr old on a motorbike ? I’d be very surprised if they did and personally, I’d not have him on mine and risk losing loads of money come renewal time. (All it would need would for him to slide off the bike and hit a car and claim go in) Whilts not generally transferrable between bike NCD and car NCD, he may well love biking and stick at it…in which case he’d be annoyed at having 0 NCD in a couple of years.
I used Wicked Quotes for my two bike insurance and they were cheapest and I am actually insured with a good and reputable firm. Maybe worth looking if you haven’t already ?Kit is the easiest thing to sort.
dave661350Full MemberNever seen Froome look as chilled, rested and generally ‘well’ as when he was interviewed yesterday. It’d be lovely to see Yates podium in Paris but suspect the next few days will take their toll
dave661350Full MemberGet him building his own no claims. It is seldom transferable between bike and car in any case so unless he becomes a lifelong biker, after 2 or 3 yrs of riding, packing it in and getting a car will mean his NCD will lapse 2 yrs afterwards.
Don’t be conned by bike shops telling you he needs a £500 Arai helmet. Buy on ‘fit’ first and foremost and have a look at the Sharp testing
http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/
Kit wise, you only realise that a manufacturer uses single stitching and poor thread when you slide down a road and it all unravels. Buy good kit and make sure he wears it all the time. It isn’t cheap to set up but running costs are peanuts so in time it pans outdave661350Full MemberI bought my T2 Carbon in March, it has not turned a wheel in anger yet. The day after it arrived we went on holiday where…my heart dropped out of sync so I havent cycled since…However, I get it sorted in a fortnight so hopefully, a day or two afterwards it’ll make its maiden trip
Happy days.dave661350Full MemberI keep looking online at LeTour 16 website but they have no accurate route uploaded as yet. I’ll keep checking as it goes through St Leonard de Noblat (Raymond Poulidor) which is close to where we’ll be on the day so it MAY come closer to us.
dave661350Full MemberI’d offer them 3% and as someone mentioned, a bonus of some sort IF predicted profits come true later in the year. This is a wind up right ?
