I’ve done the top half of Scotland in April; early, mid and late May and most of September into October. Over the years I’ve never had prolonged bad weather. As above, May or September. (Stuck in traffic won’t be much of an issue for ‘your mate’)

Either a gravel bike or a hardtail 29er, canal towpath to Gargrave, back lanes/tracks to Settle, Malham, Cracoe and away you go.

Worst, probably a Pro Flex from the late 90s

Best, a Greg Fuquay externally butted steel framed rigid again from the 90s.

Not really a regret as I wouldn’t be in the happy little world I now live in….but turning down a job offer to go and work in Bermuda in 1988 was probably a bit daft.

    F1 v UCI World tour

23 x 2 hr races with c 20 competitors versus 26 weeks of 4-5 hr races with 100-180 competitors…far better VFM for the polution.

Take what you eat/drink/take for a half day and 300-500m in the UK and double it.

I cannot recall where, but I saw an article online about blind stokers on tandems and how riding made them feel ‘alive’. A great initiative

Is it just me that thought it odd that the ITV 4 commentator laughed when the helicopter zoomed in on an iconic old Biritsh phone box on top of a mountain and he announced ‘Apparently it conatins a defibrillator..ha ha ha ha’

They’ve just interviewed Campenaerts…he was pushing a 54 – 17. (I couldn’t quite work out whether he had a bet with himself to stick in the same gear or whether the gears were ‘stuck’) He then changed bikes

Campenaerts and his gearing….what is/was that all about ??

The mural above is painted on the Tourist Office in St Leonard de Noblat and very impressive it is. We freewheeled the 4 miles down to a road junction to watch them ride by at 2pm…then (confirming just how oppresively hot it feels) struggled uphill back home. Coincidentally, we moved out here 9 mths ago and lo and behold we get a 1 in 20 yr visit by le Tour. Chapeau. (Thanks for doing these daily stage threads.)

Frogstamp….that policy is for prior to a breakdown…it states the below…which seems to be what OP has done. Good luck OP

Just so you know, you can’t buy cover online if you’ve already broken down – so please call instead and we’ll help you.

All the usual stuff, used to litterpick locally when still in the UK, no need to here in rural France.

About 8 years ago, wife and I had parked a few miles out of Bagneres de Bigorre to go and watch the end of a tour stage. We rode back to the car and were putting bikes on the rack when a rather overweight chap on a city bike struggled past, with a further 8 or 9 miles and several hundred feet of climbing to his destination. He paused for a break so I had a chat with him, a belgian chap in his 50s who had brought his aging mother to Lourdes and thought he’d take one of the hotel bikes to go watch the stage finish….he had bitten off way more than he could chew. We gave him a lift back to Lourdes but he was insistant on being dropped off just out of town and tried valiantly to drop a 20 euro note on us. (we told him to drop it in a charity pot). His mum will have seen her son set out and return on two wheels…..

We did it in c2011 and watched 2 sections of cobbles before driving to the Velodrome and watching the finish, a great day out.

Montgenevre, up the pass towards the Italian border from Serre Chevalier. 6000ft so generally good snow. Mainly french folk there ( a few Italians but it is close to Sestriere so presume loads go there?)

I get the ‘just want it to go to someone who will use it’,……but how about seeing what it is worth, selling it and giving the raised cash to a charity/foodbank/whatever you fancy ?

I only say this as i had 3 old film cameras in our sideboard and was on the verge of handing to a charity shop when i found the below place who paid good money for the trio….

Try a tin of this stuff. Works well on slightly faded black.

I had just such a thing and the best security I had was that it was out of public sight at the bottom of my garden and when I came back from a ride, I was always careful as to who may see me wheel the bike round the back of the house. In the shed I fitted cheap roller blinds and used both a long 10/12mm cable and lock and U-locks. I also added an extra padlock on the door. Make it look more than just a summer house and you may get people wondering what is inside if it needs this much security. I also put in a small very loud stand alone alarm.

You CAN legally carry a multitool.

    dave661350

They have been told, charge everyone carrying, let the cps and/or courts decide.

    Who told them this ?

    CPS I think.

Doesn’t make a huge mount of sense in as much as you say that CPS tell them to charge and then CPS also decide ??….
Initially it is just down to a Cop or two who ascertain that you’ve got a multitool with a locking blade. (I can’t recall anyone I know, out cycling or mountain-biking mentioning getting stopped and searched) If you’re out on the lash at 3am, you would likely be in bother, at most other times and especially when out cycling, you should be fine. They are not illegal per se, it comes down to the interaction with the Police Officer. It won’t need ‘testing’ in court if that interaction is normal…..in as much as both sides are reasonable (highly likely) and the reason given (a tool in my backpack) is acceptable.
If at all worried, don’t carry one. (I have one in my bumbag every time I cycle and one in my motorbike tankbag every time I venture out…)

The NC750 is basically half a Honda Jazz engine so it revs accordingly. It really is (IMHO) a dull bike, as is the Deauville. I’d have neither unless there was absolutely no other choice….there’s loads of choice tho.

Looks like I am pushing BMW…I am not…..what ‘budget left’ would you have if you chucked £4k at an NC750 ? I agree with those above, just get one ‘do it all’ bike.
