@molgrips – tbh I’ve never tried the full on road shoes – do you get any float with them, I guess not – that’s been a constant worry for me over the years, but you must get great power transfer

Agreed – you deffo deffo want proper shoes – i.e. cleated ones – you dont need the the road triangle big plates ones – mtb are fine – I’ve used Time ATACS since the 90’s – large float etc

dhb shorts for me – work well
Rapha jersey and gilet – very nice – clearly you’re paying some badge tax but not that much and happy ish to do so
Morvelo top as well is nice
Have also bought some £10 jerseys off Wish from China – and to be fair they are pretty damn excellent – sizing is a bit of a gamble though

And yeah in general you need to go up a size or so – unless you’re an athletic build them jerseys dont hide anything :)

Yep G7 power for me – use it for navigation – masses of battery power – no need to worry about running out of juice on a long ride.

And finally !! – it’s so cheap and easy I’ll probably swap over paint schemes every year or so + plus if I gash the frame it’ll be dead easy to cover up again.

Just to add, its recommended not to take the frame back to metal, in which case you have to then prime. All I was did was to give the frame a wash and then carefully go over it with surgical spirit to make sure no grease left on frame. I’d say prep time was say 20 mins. Total spray time was 2 hours. The copper spray (and the other colours) is quite “powder-ery” to dries almost instantly – same for the gold flake – seems it would be quite hard to get any runs. The laquer though is more of a liquid so just need to be bit more careful.

Yes you could get a better job from a pro – but tbh not by much – I had my CX SS bike resprayed last year from a local well known cycle sprayer and tbh there’s not much difference not from initial viewing anyway. The way I looked at it was, if I make a complete balls of it then it’s only £30 and I’ll take to a pro sprayer.

I’m just finishing off rebuilding my Camino following a respray using spray.bike cans – for £30 I’m very pleased

Yep – Element B&W – works really well – for planning use Kamoot for road biking with turn by turn and OS for off-road’ness

Actually – just bought a quad-lock phone holder so now for road biking I just use the moby running Kamoot – don’t actually looks at the map just listen out for the spoken directions – ’tis ace.

I’ve started using my road bike in earnest recently – a now 8 ish year old Scott CR1 Pro – its rides light and crispy – Ultegra with Mavic Ksyrium Elite – not disk but tbh the brakes are way plenty enough – better than cable disk on my SS CX – anyways one to maybe consider.

So my initial thoughts when I started reading the thread, in relation to G were:
1 – Seems like a really nice bloke
2 – Fair play to him to raise some cash (yes despite him being sponsored)
    3 – Tax evading scumbag

But, as the principle of taxation is to pay for the services of the country you live in, then if he mainly lives in Monaco then fair enough really. But, keeping your citizenship is another thing – if you want to go live somewhere else, and pay their taxes instead, then I think you should take on their citizenship and give up your old one.

Is it just the bearings that have collapsed? My son goes through a set every couple of months following daily use.if so just get some off the bay – 2 mins to swap out.

martinhutch – yes good point – I would say yes of course they have access to NHS – but being put on furlough as some kind of favour just seems wrong me. Just because it costs the company zero doesn’t make it right.

So an employee wants to leave a company and the country…fair enough.

And then…oh hold on I’ve changed my mind…”ok if you taxpayers sort me our for the next couple of months…and then I’ll be off.”

I’m not sure I want my tax pounds being spent that way – not on someone who won’t be paying back into the system because they pre-decided to leave the country.

Well for me…probably not ( as tempting as it is). I’m going to just enjoy what I have and try and move away from my constant “need” to acquire yet another bike.

I suspect N+1 will be a fond memory – I for one will stop that (I think and hope) – and just enjoy what I have instead of the constant thought of “what can I have next”.

ahhh…wish I hadn’t starting reading this. Back in the day I had a Parker tortoise shell (yes I know but it was 1984) – purchased on staff discount from WH Smith as a Saturday lad – and had always wanted a Parker Falcon when I was in school. Damn, I’m going to have to start deciding what to get as I now deffo need one.

@sharkbait : “…until they simply start using the 4g you’ve kindly got them!!” – aye you’re right there – my 2 kids are on 3’s unlimited data (after a shocker of a Vodafone bill) – their customer service is great – quick web chat and the service is disconnected …ahh happy days :)

I got fed up with the family complaining about dead spots so went with Google mesh – not the cheapest but does a great job – nice phone app as well so you can admin it – nice when the wife phones and says can you kill the internet, as the kids wont get off it and do their homework. :)

Yeah I was a hater as well…seemed to be a lot of “badge tax” going on – then bought a Brevet jersey and gilet and have to say totally love wearing them.

Probably Decathlon – impossible not to buy something – followed by any one of those old fashioned hardware stores you stumble across in a small town, usually owned by someone who’s been behind the counter since the Boer war – they all have that certain smell – you can get anything from these places: paraffin / creosote / bags of nails that are weighed / rat poison / weird tools you have no idea what they’re for etc etc
