I’ve got the Yeti SB-95 and love it. I had pretty much discounted 29ers and was in the market for either 26 or 650B until I demoed the SB-95. Its so much more versatile than I thought it would be and pedals incredibly well. I’m hitting stuff faster and with so much more confidence than I had on my Nicolai for example. If you find yourself down North Wales way, you’re welcome to try it.

oooh likey.. connect to the phone via wifi for previewing too.. I see GoPro’s going cheap soon – keep (another) look out on SportsPursuit..

Do you know something, or is this supposition? I’m not challenging you BTW, its just that I’m on the hunt for a good deal on an action cam, and will keep an eye on SP if they are going to be doing (better) deals on GoPro.

Surely it can’t qualify as a proper 90’s evening unless Doves were involved. In which case you’d still be feeling fine, though with a nagging sense of foreboding about Tragic Tursday!

He’d still be partying with the neighbours if Doves were involved.

Looking forward to it, though I don’t think we are in for the best conditions. Still, it should make for a good leveller if we are racing in the snow!

When I was around the age of 13, and very impressionable, I fell in with some of the more colourful individuals in my year at school. We decided to miss art one day but instead of going to the park, or into town we decided to hide in plain sight and spend the hour under the stage in our school hall. The cavity underneath was around 4ft, just high enough for a group of 13 year olds to sit, in a slightly stooped manner and talk in hushed tones. One of our gang of delinquents announced he was bursting for the loo, and was about to vacate our hiding place and dart to the gents when another, brighter member of our faction pointed out that if he was seen by a teacher, the truancy game would be well and truly up. After considering the repurcussions of this, said delinquent announced there was nothing for it but to relieve himself under the stage, close to where we were huddled. All of our group assumed he needed to urinate and giggled away as we anticipated hearing the trickle of urine on wood. Instead our nostrils were filled with the scent of freshly laid turd. Our comrade had curled one off a mere ft or so from where we were sitting in a very enclosed space. We had no alternative other than to sit next to our friends shit for another 20 minutes until the class had ended.

    I was never truant again.

i live in Manc but work in London, so can visit shops in the evening down here or at weekend up yon.

cheers. will give silverfish a bell.

One Planet is ideal then. They usually carry Yeti demo bikes and you can take one out on the proper trails to try.

The technology is much better now than even a couple of years ago. My wife had it done before Christmas, the surgery took all of two minutes and she is amazed with the results, she wishes she had done it years ago.

My favourite pub is the Gallows Bird, out towards Espoo and they usually have a decent range of beers on, but beware you’ll need deep pockets if you are thirsty! As Hans Rey says Finnish beer is pretty crappy, Lapin Kulta is marginally better than Karhu in my opinion. For food Loumo is very good, as is Nokka (probably my favourite). The bar at the top of hotel Torni is also worth visiting for the views over Helsinki.

The museum of modern art is interesting, and right across from the Station. In the morning take a walk down by the harbour and visit the old market, ewasily accessible by tram.

Are you looking for a dealer in NW England, or NW London? If NW England, I’ll second One Planet at LLandegla. Got my SB 95 from them and they were a pleasure to deal with.

What are the recommendations for chain length when swapping to 1×10? I’ve just taken off my 38/26 double and put on a 32t up front (36 rear) – do I need to lose some links from the chain to get more tension? (RF n/w, xtr clutch)

I only had to remove one link, going from a triple chain set and long cage rear mech to a 32t and short cage SRAM XO clutch mech, both with a 11:36.

I’ve had zero problems on the two rides I’ve done with this setup so far.

32 and 11-36 here. Its got me up everything so far, and I’ve yet to feel under geared when descending.

If the weather is anything like it was last night, it’ll make for some interesting racing. Might take my canoe instead of the bike.

I love my Yeti SB95, it’s easily as agile as the Nicolai Helius CC it replaced. I was sceptical about 29ers before test riding it, but loved it after taking one out on a demo.

Why would you use the term ‘hostess’ to, loosely or otherwise describe a male train assistant?

I concur, Dolgellau Cycles is a great shop. We stayed in Dolgellau at Easter and hired a tag-along to take our daughter for a bike ride which we returned earlier than agreed due to the chilly weather. They offered to let us hire it again the following day for free as we hadn’t used our allocated time. I thought it was a great example of a small business going the extra mile to please a customer.

Actually the whole of Dolgellau seems to get the whole tourism thing very well. Wherever you go from the pubs to the butchers to the coffee shop, the staff seem genuinely pleased to see you and thankful for your business. Its a lovely little town.

I saw a wee fella out in full sky kit the other day, chuckled about Mamils, and then realised he was shifting and it was JTL. Turns out he lives a couple of miles away.

Probably getting his last few rides in before they ask for it all back.

I made a cake for the work bake off yesterday, it took bloody ages. I got a nasty sugar burn on the end of my finger making a toffee sauce for it. Some arse pulled out on me drivin into work this morning, I had to brake and the cake hit the deck. Gutted I was.

DS, that item of cothing is messing with my brain – I want to think you’re wearing that on the left wrist and it’s an oven mitt! (nice strap/face combo)

I’ve always worn my watch on the ‘wrong’ wrist, not sure why but it feels more comfortable. I see what you mean about the over glove look though 😆

My new Ball Fireman Ionosphere. Purchased at a bargain price in the Ernest Jones sale. It will do until my 40th birthday in a few years, when I plan to add a Tudor Black Bay to the collection.

Well, four of us braved the very windy wind yesterday and decided to stick to the plan and tackle Snowdon. A rather unconventional route took us up Ranger Path (not by design I hasten to add) dodging the boulder bags as we went. As we got further up it became increasingly evident that the wind was going to make descending Ranger Path foolhardy at best. We got to within spitting distance of the summit and collectively decided that enough was enough, we weren’t going any further. A decision reinforced by the fact our bikes were actually being blown off the ground and visibility dropped to a few metres regularly. The wind was so bad walkers were actually lying on the path for fear of being blown over, it really was nuts.

We descended Llanberis path, which was great fun as the number of walkers were at a minimum, the one silver lining of a very grey cloud. Regularly we were blown off line even further down the hill, it created a good few hairy moments and confirmed our decision not to ride Ranger Path as the correct one. We got to the bottom of Llanberis, realised we should have come across Telegraph valley and unanimously decided that getting a taxi around to Rhyd Du was a more palatable notion than riding for another couple of hours. After a £48(!!!!!!!!!!!!!) cab ride we collected the cars, drove back around to Llanberis to collect Chrism110 (who had been charged with looking after the bikes in Llanberis whilst the three drivers collected the cars) and departed in agreement that whilst the ride had been very tough, at times very intimidating and rather expensive with the unplanned cab ride, we had an adventure in the very truest sense.

Thanks to Johnny, Chris and Lawrence for the great company.

Got a few more people interested , what route are we thinking of ??

I’m quite open to the route. I have to admit, the MBR route did interest me but I’m happy to go with the flow. I guess we should should get start times and meeting points arranged too.

Point is – Why don’t road riders seem to look after each other like MTB riders do? (we were even asked by a passing MTB rider if we were OK but no road rider did)

The last time I had a (minor) mechanical on a road ride, one rider stopped and offered help and two others rolled by asking if I was ok.

The last two occasions I have appeared to be needing help on a mountain bike ride (one pretty major mechanical and one off, where I was lying at the trail side!) I have had several riders pass me without comment.

I wouldn’t judge one discipline to be more helpful than another, I’d suggest it is down to individual rider attitude. A sportive in bad weather isn’t really a good example either, most riders will have their head down focusing on surviving the weather in a fairly respectable time. Not noticing and not caring are two different things.

I can’t think of anything they could do that would take a couple of days? – Trueing a wheel??

I would imagine they meant it would take a couple of days to get to the job in the queue and complete it, as opposed to it taking them two days to true a wheel!
