I fly with mine in a Brompton specific case. On the rare occasion I’m asked what’s inside I say sports equipment, I’ve never been asked for further details.

My company sponsors Matt Holmes who’s racing Gralloch as his debut gravel event. He’s going pretty well, won the Lincoln Grand Prix last Sunday, so he’s one to watch out for.

Kate Middleton is the woman Chris Horner has been sexting. You heard it here first.

I’d also seen that. TBH I would not have passed on what’s essentially gossip were it not for the source.

RE Horner, according to a sports journalist from a well known sports newsletter in a WhatsApp group I am in, it was an unsolicted pic of an explicit nature sent by Horner to his PA. Said pic has been presented by the accuser as evidence.

Sad that its ending but 12 seasons is a hell of a run. I recently purchased the first 11 seasons which I’m rewatching before I start on the 12th,

    What?

Pish, back when I was getting into mtb properly you had the Sub 5, Sub 3, Partriot and MsIsle at the very least, that was around 98. There was still the Mr O before then, the Five came much later.

Basically any kite frame was made in house and the straight tubes (Gringo, Air-O etc) were offshored.

So the predecessor to the Five then? I edited the initial post as was using  the Five for a catch all term for the folded alu bikes. Point being that the companies formative years weren’t built on UK manufacturing and they still did very well. I completely agree with you on innovation.

The expansion into far-eastern alu frames is something I never understood as to me it moved away from what I saw as their USP. If the (R)X9 had a made-in-UK steel frame (or even better, carbon, which seems to be what everyone wants these days) I’d certainly have bought one. As it is they offer absolutely nothing to stand out.

The majority or Orange frames have always been made in Asia though. Ironically Orange was born when another UK MTB brand went pop with a container full of frames on a ship in the middle of the ocean. Tushingham purchased and rebranded them and shortly after rebranded again under the Orange brand. Back then (I think) only the Formula was UK made and they were rare. The early alu (O and E) frames were Asia made.

It’s only really since the predecessor to the Five that they had a ‘Made in the UK’ tag to promote.

The key word is “pay” but perhaps I should have said salaried .. unlike the CEO of BC for example who gets £68k/yr + expenses + pension and I’d expect health insurance, perks etc. and an employment contract and rights.

Then there are another 250 salaried workers in British Cycling ..
Who knows how many salaries in TeamGB but payscale.com lists a SALARY as Client Services Director 49k – £98k (Estimated *) £69,363… and the executive team is some who’s who of Disney, Coca Cola and such.
Who are they marketing to ??? Oh, yeah they are funded by being the sole control over advertising on the unsalaried athletes .. and must be raking it in in bribes and hospitality. Then for cycling there is the UCI …

Basically a load of fat cats milking the system whilst the athletes do all the actual work and don’t get a employment contract or treated as employees.

These are hardly ‘fat cat’ salaries and their remit will be much wider than the athlete program. In fact the exaple you use (Client Services Director) most likely has no connection to racing (at a professional/national level).

The attitude of the mother was a part of the circumstances. I can disagree with her attitude without blaming her.

Perhaps I am missing something (I read the Times article but didn’t see Dispatches as I am in Finland) but didn’t the mother firstly express her concern then confront Brand on his doorstep, and his response was to try and kiss her? Can’t see what else she could do under the circumstances. Let’s focus on the person most responsible for Brand’s behaviour, which is Brand.

I caught the ‘premiere’ of the EDR Highlights last night on YouTube as it streamed ‘live’, a day and a half after the racing had finished. There were around 800 live viewers as I was watching. It’s no wonder teams are dropping like flies.

I also listed to a Downtime podcast with Chris Ball from Feb 23 yesterday, before the season started obviously. The contrast between the opportunity talked up by Chris Ball and the delivery is striking.

I can only think of one EU national living in the UK under withdrawal agreement terms on STW and he’s a Brexiteer who hadn’t appplied for UK nationality the last time asked and has since been evasive.

I know a few EU nationals living and working in the UK and their lives haven’t changed. The fear of what leaving the EU would result in and the reality are very different. Almost like project fear was exactly that.

I’m a Brit living in Finland and most likely know many more EU nationals than you with a different experience, and also Brits being forced to leave Finland or being denied residency status post Brexit.

“Is there such a thing as ‘out of harm’s way’ when it comes to Vlad and his FSB stooges?”

Probably not. I guess that leaves two options, consider them collateral damage or don’t go against him in the first place.

Surely it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Putin would go after your family if you go against him. Seems a huge oversight to have not ensured they were out of harms way first.

The Finns have had this one sorted from the get-go as they don’t have seperate he/she pronouns, just ‘han’ for both.

So the simple solution is we all learn and adopt Finnish as our primary language.

Toby Young is the publisher of The Daily Sceptic. Censorship pure and simple.

From the New Statesman of all places:

Yet the issue highlights one of the key misunderstandings that we often have about Big Tech platforms. Just because they appear to be public utilities, and are ubiquitous, we expect them to be required to follow a more significant, scrutinised code of conduct. But they’re not. They’re private companies, with their own rules and regulations. If we don’t like it, we can lump it: as an ardent supporter of conservative causes, Young will know that competition in a free-market economy is king.

But scratch beneath the surface of Young’s claims and you begin to realise that the ban may be more justified than people think. This isn’t just a rabble-rouser trying to keep the home fires burning in a fictitious, bubbly culture war. A Times report has alleged that one of the reasons why PayPal closed the accounts down was for spreading Covid vaccine misinformation – a real harm that puts lives at risk. The R value of false information discouraging people from taking up the offer of perfectly safe vaccines outstrips that of the virus that has killed, to date, 6.5 million people.

PayPal declined to comment on specific cases, but said that it “regularly assesses activity against our long-standing acceptable use policy and will discontinue our relationship with account holders who are found to violate our policies”.

The payments company does have a long-standing issue with banning companies and individuals from using its services, or withholding their cash, without justification. I’ve previously reported on PayPal holding back far more money than Young would likely have in his accounts – and have been inundated with similar stories. Those examples seem to have little explanation, unlike the banning of Young’s accounts, which have been pinned to allegations that he spread misinformation.

The decision is also not as dramatic as Young – whose career has relied on over-egging his strife like a put-upon puppy – makes out. He’s not being silenced, and is not a cri de coeur for certain griftier fringe personalities. He’s still entitled to his opinions, no matter how wrong they may be.

It’s just that PayPal has decided it doesn’t want him to profit from them.

It’s an approach that Young would likely recognise from one of the favourite cases of the anti-woke free speech brigade: if a bakery is allowed to withhold business from customers wanting it to bake a gay cake, why can’t PayPal withhold its services from someone with whom it disagrees?

How big is the list? A personal approach is always better than a mass email, especially from a new business/contact.

How did your son put together the list? If he has acquired it from a third party you need to be mindful of issues around GDPR (though there is a legimate interest clause for B2B).

I own a specialist marketing agency and I’d recommend a form of Inbound campaign for a smaller/newer business. Happy to offer some pointers if you would like to DM me (no strings, I work with life science companies).

Tick borne disease is prevalent enough here in Finland that most people I know have the vaccine.

#Edit Sorry, this vaccine is for TBE rather than Lyme disease.

This will be my first Winter living in Finland, so I’m looking forward to riding without having to get on a flight somewhere. In-Laws are in Lapland, so we’ll probably ride some of the higher resorts a couple of times throughout Winter.

I miss the Alps though, hopefully next year.

I’d imagine coverage will follow the same model as their road cycling coverage, so ad supported coverage on Eurosport alongside gated content on the app/website like GCN Plus.

If they improve EWS coverage and bundle that into a mountain bike package with DH and XC, I’d pay for it like I do GCN Plus.

It could equally be that they are running it into the ground and scrapping it, therefore don’t want to spend any cash unless absolutely necessary.

And I thought my old hobby of collecting pencils was weird.
