If you need tougher, buy EVO snakeskin, about 50g more per tyre.

I was looking at these for my Heckler – I went for Revs in the end as I couldnt get any offers on x-fusion, and Merlin had Revs for the same price.

I would suggest they are cheap to capture market share, and in a few tears the price will rise.

Superstar do a fitting kit for all shimano brakes – check out the PDF link on the hyd hose page for which kit you require.

It is mis-selling. Lies in an advert. Charlie/mojoman claims to be selling his pride and joy to pay for Dental work and go down to one bike. On his other threads, he is actively buying 2 more frames, and his new forum name is only a week old. I wouldn’t buy a paper from him, let alone trust him with a Mojo HD!!!

Try superstar for a much cheaper one and v quick delivery.

Walleater – even though it is against the rules, I don’t really object to people buying/selling for profit. What I don’t like is people lying about who they are – check out Charliefjking aka mojoman2012’s latest sale for a Turner 5 Spot. If we are all right about him being a dealer, that post is a total fabrication. He also started popping up on the bike forum asking questions – no doubt getting around the policy of some of only buying from proper STW forum users.

If people will lie about who they are, and where the bike comes from, what else are they not truthful about? Would you expect a decent service if it all went wrong?

And Charliefjking now trading under new name Mojoman2012 selling a Turner 5 spot, but with the old email address given in the ad. Hmmmm.

I have the new Deores. They won the MBR group test a few months back. They are the same as the SLX/XT ones apart from :
2 part caliper not 1 part
Split pin pad retainer not screw, but I believe if you buy a XT pin it fits
Plastic reservoir cap not blingy chrome
    Heavier alloy
    No free stroke adjust.
Allan key required for lever adjust, but unlike my Elixirs, it is easy to get at.

One of my buddies has the XT, and another the SLX. Considering the price difference, and the fact that braking performance is the same on all 3, I’m glad I got the Deores.

I had a Cannondale RZ 120 last year. I loved the bike, but Non-standard parts made it hard to upgrade/sell on. For example, it had a fox fork with a 1.5″ straight steerer, but qr dropouts. Surely any bike with a 1.5″ head tube should come with a 15/20mm front end??

The 2 Boardman FS bikes are well thought of too. FS Team is £1000, and FS Pro @£1500.

37, barring the odd bad back, injury free!! (Apart from a really sore knee wound from bailing a drop on tuesday :-(( )

For the best spec for your money, Canyon Nerve XC. If you can get over not trying before buying. They consistently win bike tests.

I have the X0 170mm 2×10 from CRC. I also have 175mm SLX 2×10. The only difference I feel is less pedal strikes on the Heckler with 170 cranks, but then it has a higher bb anyway!

I suffer from lower back pain, and have no probs with 170 cranks. Look at 5mm on a ruler – it really is F@@k all!!

My first FS, sold it 3 moths ago for my Heckler, but loved it!!

I think the white saddle/grips really suited it.

Only 2, a Heckler and a C456. Both ready to go. Same discs/brakes/hubs on both, both tubeless so wheels can be swapped in seconds, allowing easy bike/tyre choice for the day!!

Both fully functional – and CLEAN most of the time.

9 and 10 SPD kit is not compatible. You would need a completely new drivetrain. Sorry :-(

Oops!! I have new deore, old xt and even older xt, all using the same pads – S1 from chart above. What a surprise that Shimano have completely changed the design to make old pads redundant!!

Front conversion from qr to 15 mm is even easier – no clips. Just pull out qr and push in 15mm!!

I’m pretty certain they fit deore brakes too. They also fit the last 2 models of xt brakes.

    One trick left then!

How long has this been going on? My first set of x kings took about 5 days to seal properly.

Also, just because there is fluid, there may not be any latex particles left in it. Might be worth a top-up

Did you pump up to 50 ish psi to get the beads to pop in? (audible pop).

Try removing the tyres, scrubbing the insides with soapy water.

When you put in the sealant, how are you shaking the wheel? Try holding it out in front of you horizontally. Then rotate it up and down vigorously. Turn the wheel by 1/8 and repeat. Do this 8 times until you have turned the wheel the whole way in your hands. I think this is referred to as the “shake and bake” method.

Shimano Deore voted best brake in one of the bike mags this year – same chassis as the SLX/XT without all the tool less adjustments.

If the rotor is the right size it will work. My rose deore brakes came with a rear 160 adapter. And mega long cables set up the wrong way round – I posted yesterday how to swap them.

Whatever you decide is the right decision!! Everyone else is wrong.

Unless you have already tried 170mm cranks and not got on with them, I wouldn’t automatically discount them. It makes them really cheap as people won’t buy them.

Drivetrain is the heart of your bike – it has to be reliable. Bling is for stems/bars/spacers etc.

    That said, I’m a sucker for a looker!! ( bike that is ;-) )

    dantsw13

Yes they are 170mmcranks, which actually I now prefer!! Try holding up your fingers to a 5mm gap and see how much difference that really is??? If anything, it avoids pedal strikes on my burly Heckler!!

I have had SLX shadow 10spd rear mechs/cassettes/shifter combos on 3 bikes now, and they have all shifted perfectly with no issues. If your bike can take them, I reccommend full outer cables too for uk conditions.

I bought the SLX groupset from Actionsports.de for under £200 – postage only a fiver, and the Euro is plummeting!! I also got a 2×10 x0 crank from CRC for £200, and sold the SLX one for £80. So that’s £320 for a super reliable SLX system with blingy X0 carbon cranks – luvvly jubbly!!!

Personally, I would rather just have higher ratio spacings than more rings. I would love a 1×10 with say 11-42. I’m sure there is a good reason this wouldn’t work.

Wrt the seat tube restriction, under advice from on one, I filed it down.

As for the heli tape on the chainstay, I snapped a chain last week, and it all sucked up badly – 2 layers of heli tape trashed, chainstay – not a mark ;-))

I suffer from excezma, dry skin leads to flare ups, so always moisturise after washing your hands. Go to the doc for some cream as you will get a stronger one. Trial and error will find a cream that works for you. Treat at the first sign of a flare up, as once established, it’s way harder to treat.

Washing powder can be bad too. I’ve only used fairy for the last 20 years, as anything else sets it off.

    Good luck!

I’ve just done it tonight on my new deore brakes (same chassis as xt).

    Take out pads

2 pumps on lever to push out caliper cylinders(so when you push them back at the end, any air is pushed out into cylinder)

    Remove hose

    Keep hose upright

    Cut hose

    Fit insert and olive

    Refit hose

    Push back caliper cylinders

    Refit pads

    Pump brakes

    Ride bike :-)))

Midlifecrashes – I was going through my workshop today – I discovered a top peak Alien 2 multi tool I bought in the states and maybe used once or twice. Seeing as I have 2 other multi tools I use, and a full set of workshop tools, it is surplus to requirements. If you are interested, my email is in my profile. Not sure what price, as I haven’t really looked into it yet, but I’m sure we could come up with something.

I bought my gore phantom convertible from Evans sale for £70 2 months ago. Windproof, showerproof, and converts to a nice vest top which doesn’t need an underlayer

Speshpaul – failure to declare items to customs, or lying is a criminal offence, which carries a possible jail sentance. Customs have more powers than the police, and don’t like being lied to. My job requires an airport pass and security check. If I was found in flagrant breach of customs regs I would be unable to maintain my airside pass, and lose my job.

If people want to risk it, go ahead. Chances are you will get away with it. But for me, and many others it simply isn’t worth it.

With reference to US state sales tax, buying mail order in the states, you still pay state sales tax in the state where you are posting to, so not an easy steal there either.
