I just passed 39 so have 11months to go. The only difference I have noticed age wise is hair – less of and that it takes longer to recover from an off these days although I am loads fitter and healthier than I was 10 years ago. I’m just having fun thinking about what I’d like for my present (call me shallow). I am currently aiming, apparently, too high. I am sure it will be a blast.

I make sure that a very complicated website that buys and sells ‘widgets’ in multiple different ways works. It is bl**dy hard work. It’s not really the job that gets me (although it’s starting to) it is the d***heads on the A12 I have to endure for 300 miles a week getting there and back home again.

The problem with Thorndon is that you need to know it very well otherwise you will just end up riding round the nice wide and boring fire paths. However, give it a go and just look out for tell-tale signs of where we have been.

I’m using Nuke Poof Generators. Cheap and so far reliable with the added bonus that the rear hub has six pawls with 30 points of engagement so pick up is pretty good. The rims are MTX 29s which seem burley enough but are a PITA to change tires.

The second one is about 15 to 20 feet between take-off and where I landed. The first go at it I went a little further than that. I’ll take some photos of them next week.

Thanks Jedi, you taught me well!

Cheers Folks. I’d done the first one loads of times but the second is a tad further. It was like most things completely fine ‘once’ I’d done it.

I was going to mount the camera on the forks. It gives a better sense of things and IMHO is closer to how it actually feels. I had a case of couldnotbearsed though.

I run them in the winter mud for trail riding (Wet Screams for DH) in 2.35 single ply guise. A 60a out back and a super tacky up front. An excellent tire that rolls well enough with plenty of grip in the muck. They’re also cheap.

I use a Bos Stoy on mine. It’s brilliant and very easy to set up. The spring is from DSP in the states. BOS alter the internals of the shock specifically to the type of linkage. Maybe that is why is works so well as the set up is for VPP from the start.

Big improvements, especially in cornering and looking ahead. Much less comfort braking also. I still need to work on jumps which I practice most weeks but tend to find my confidence broken on them quite easily. I’m also looking at the trail differently and will often go back and try new lines and different approaches etc. The bike set up has changed a little also, slightly shorter stem, wider and lower bars but the brake levers are as you left them and the front forks are not nearly as soft.

Mmm. I could do with another session I think. I’ll start saving…

Spending stupid amounts of cash on the one bike and then wondering why I am skint… Ah well. Oh, and not looking where I am going enough.

Lovely bike. Not convinced about the 32s and my GT Xiang would like it’s stem back please.

    Thankyou!

6ft, ridden a friends 714 medium (a thing of joy), it feels too small though.

I grew up near there and have never ridden in. There is also some good downhill stuff (if that’s your thing) near Rogate a few miles down the road. I think I’ll have a look at the Punchbowl this year.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I think I need to start saving.

Any experiences with XT rotors? I’ve got two sets of wheels that I swap out depending on what I’m doing so don’t really want to have to replace 4 rotors as well.

One time (at band camp – sorry) we just finished a really good downhill section at the end of the ride. As you look back at the hill you ride down there is a wide path off to the right that you can see through the trees. Our head torches picked out some eyes staring at us. They would have been about 50 to 70 yards away maybe. They eyes started to move down the path with a sort of lollop or head bob. We both agreed that they were not a badger or deer and too far off of the ground to be a fox plus the movement of the ‘shape’ was not right to be dog related. The eyes then started to move towards us through the woods. It’s amazing how quick you can cover the ground when you really need to.

    Any other close encounters?

My first few were a tad interesting what with getting freaked out, lights failing etc. But of late they have been brilliant. Although the afore mentioned Dog Soldiers was probably not the best film to start discussing this week with my riding buddy in the woods as the mist came while we to walked back as my mech had lunched itself. Ah well.

I agree about that badgers. Stripy loons!

No damage to the spokes, no sticks and I’m confident the limit screw was fine as I’d checked it quite recently (I wouldn’t rule it out though but no way of checking now). One of those (fu***** expensive) things.

I think he comes to the woods where I ride as well. His specialty appears to be placing pointy bits at jump landings.

    Idiots.

On my way back home I missed a bridge and used my head and shoulder to stop. Broken colorbone followed by a brief walk to the road and a several phone calls later my bike had been picked up by a mate, the paramedic had given me something that had me feeling bloody brilliant for the rest of the day and a few days later I was under the knife to be put back together again. And a big up to the cheeky git who stopped to ask me for directions to the hospital while I was waiting for the paramedic to turn up.

Hey Jedi! Dad cannot make it now. So on my tod, may have to rethink and do it next year as the costs are mounting up, I’ll need to hire transport now as well.

The Prodigy at Brixton Academy, Jane’s Addiction at Brixton Academy, PUSA at Brixton Academy, NIN at the O2. Bon Jovi at Wembley Arena in ’88. Steve Curtis and Last Orders at the Arms (my local). All brilliant.

I was quite upset when I dismantled my Tracer VP to sell the frame. My Wife didn’t understand. And I’m afraid to say the bike and everything else would go first.

Me, Gold Megavalanche pack. I can’t sort accomodation out until I find out who I am going with. It could just be me but hopefully my Dad will come along for support.

It’s my first one. Any advice?

It’s pretty much there after just over a year of constant tweaking. For trail days I use a set of Crossmax SXs. The nice touches are the Stoy shock. Ti spring, shockmount bolts, rotor bolts and brake mount bolts. NSB brake mounts, cane creek angleset, Straitline levers and Point 1 Podium pedals. I’m also loving the 745mm Sunline V1 bars.

There is nothing on the web about her ever getting to court. Sounds like she has been name dropping to me and has ‘disappeared’.

The OST platform works very similar to the VPP platform. If you were running an RP23 and are on the heavier side > 13st I guess, I’m not surprised the travel was used up. My old Tracer did the same until I swapped out the RP23 for a coil.

I’d still get a Zesty. Love my mates 714.
