    Not happy!

My replacement set of Pikes have lasted 5 weeks…

Exact same problem as last time with a cracking sound emminating from the stantion/crown join after much investigation. Makes me wonder if I’ve been incredibly unlucky as I’ve also got an 18 month old set of 26″ Pikes which are good as gold

Anyhow they have gone back to SRAM Tech yesterday so will see how long another set last…

Mine were replaced by SRAM within a week for a new fork.

Can’t fault the speed of service but am a little wary that this is an issue to begin with on a 1 month old fork!

    Hope not 🙁

Just sent my 1 month old Pike RCT3 160mm 27.5″ off to Fishers/SRAM Tech for a creaking/cracking problem.

After removing them and clamping the steerer in a workstand then twisting the lowers slightly you could actually feel the stantions flexing and cracking where they are bonded into the crown… not good!

Hopefully they will get sorted or replaced asap

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

Also keen to hear opinions on the latest Alpine 160 in general…

Ok, a CCDB is not a specifiable option but could source one separately I suppose. Why do you think it is a better option?

You can indeed convert the front hub from 20mm to 15mm with the a new axle, part no.2033179 – available from Zyro (the new UK Easton distributer)
I know this because I was waiting for mine for 4 months! but they should now be in stock 🙂

Many thanks slinkybike, big help. If I’m correct then I can just fit the current 2013 damper?

I did actually email Loco about a week or so ago but had no reply?

Cheers all, good to know the top-out clunk is normal and I’ve found the remnants of a tube of carbon paste so all good!

Is it agreed then that everyone’s has an audible top-out?

    Hope not shinsplints!

I’m gonna be running post pretty much slammed so not too worried about it slipping, though it does feel tight enough.

Probs get hold of some assembly paste to be on the safe side asap.

No not used the assembly paste i didn’t have any to hand, how essential is it and what exactly does it do?

Excuse me for the naive question

Not keen on the Tech lever and the Race lever is compatible with the X2 and M4 only iirc.
Pretty set on pair of X2’s now on 180F/160R, if I find I’m struggling for power I can always up the rear rotor size or even swap the front calliper for an M4.

Another question I have is how is the wear life of the Race lever – particularly the lever blades/pivot as the inevitable play and wobble on the older Mono lever (which looks very similar) used to drive me mad!

I see, the 15% hike in power came with the Evo version then.

Wanted to keep weight and price to a minimum really and riding will be mainly trail centre focused with a bit of peaks action too, hence the intention of of going with the X2’s. The bike is very much a stealth theme so naturally the name appealed…

    That sounds good Fivespot, cheers

If I understand correctly the new ‘Stealth’ versions are supposedly 15% more powerful so from what you say X2 front and rear should do the trick

In a nutshell does the CTD settings mean… Stiff-bit softer-soft?
Does the RP23 have similar easy adjustments or is it a case of getting the air pressure more dialled?

No one using these shocks yet?

Ok, thinking change of plan now and getting the hardtail saddled up and heading for a two day Woburn/chicksands fest…

Forcast better further west and pretty sure they will be good to ride even in showers….anyone confirm?

Aye, me too. Gonna show some support for our Lycra clad cousins 😆

Will be loitering around the Langsett stand most likely..

You reckon I’d be safe enough leaving one bike in the car while out riding? (covered up of course)

Suppose I can only take one bike, which one…. Full sus or hardtail?

Yeah seen the Fountain, it looks a nice enough place. Would it be worth stopping further away for a bit of nightlife on the Friday night as I presume the fountain is a very sleepy little boozer?

I’ve got one of these beasts.. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/traxxas-slash-4×4-greg-adler-ed.-/rc-car-products/35179 short course trucks are the bomb.

The Slash 4×4 are very highly regarded and pretty bombproof considering the amount of ‘bashing’ I’ve subjected mine to (ooh err!), since getting it last xmas I’ve only managed to snap one part which cost like £12 to fix with an uprated alloy replacement.
I have only run mine with NIMH batteries so far and it is rapid and has so much grip it’s silly, I can only imagine slapping a LIPO battery in there will send it nuts! Make sure you go ‘brushless’ or you will only be wanting a new motor a few weeks down the line.

p.s the Guys at Modelsport are sound and will steer you in the right direction.
