Because I am too inept to maintain my bikes properly.
Because I’m too tight fisted to buy a new mech every 5 years or so when it wears out.
Because I already push a geared bike uphill so a ss makes no difference.
Because I already wear a grimace instead of a smile.

That pretty much sums it up for me two 🙂

Dannybee, I have logged my Long loop on endo, (it’s a nice loop because it’s easy to vary between approx 18 miles, up to 20 ish or down to about 15 with a couple of easy route adjustments) I hope you don’t take offence but I will log it again next time i’m out, Hopefully Thursday so that I can anonymise it a bit more. If you put your email up I will send a link through Once i’v done it

That is fine thanks a lot i have some decent local routes but i ride local mostly so always trying to vary the routes. My email is dannybrear @ gmail.com , no spaces 🙂

Tomfun, I ride my local loop round wakey most Tuesdays usually about 18m, taking in New Miller. Drop us a line if you fancy it

Don’t suppose your on Endo or Strava so i can hve a nosey at your routes? Im in Ossett and always trying to find new local places 🙂

Think i clocked 34 mile last time i did the wheel although its probably a bit shorter now as it misses the road section out between newmiller and wintersett

Done the wheel a few times as it passes my house, When i first started riding it was the first Decent route i did so i tend to do it every now and then to see if I’m improving 🙂

A good place to start is Anglers Country Park Nr Crofton decent safe free parking, toilets , Cafe and i think the map is 50p or a quid might be worth it first time if your like me and miss signs 😆 Failing that Pugneys as already mentioned.

I wouldn’t ride it. Loosen the bottom bolt and see just how much work the top bolt is really doing

I already did that as I said in my origional post its tight cant move it

Cheers for all the replys, Someone mentiones it only looks halfway up the stem but its further up than that here is a better pic the top of steerer is 9mm from top of stem

Shifter – You mean the rear shock? I will probably change it but unsure how soon TBH i can live with it at the moment.

Ride did not go as planned ripped sidewall on a rocky descent changed tube and found out pump is knackered luckily managed to get enough air in to get me home. I have some Reckons spare so might as well stick them on 🙂

Cheers yup stem is original the only thing that has happened to the bike in the last 10 years is the rear swingarm has faded on one side 🙁

Can’t decide whether to build it into something more modern or just leave it as it is, Its currently sat next to my Hardtail and I’m off out for a ride and taking the Marin to try and make my mind up 😕

Just watch out with the Triban 3 the ones that get the great reviews are the red ones which seem to be sold out everywhere. The white triban 3a has Ali forks instead of carbon and lesser spec gearing.

Not sure if there getting more stock in or if it has been downgraded?

    Cheers 🙂

I can get it for £50 but not sure if i need another bike although i have enough bits to upgrade the shocks god knows why i’m attracted to old bikes 😕

    Looks great 😀

    What headset did you use?

    dannybee
    Free Member

I bought the old one because it was cheap plan was to tidy it up and sell it on but 50 miles in i have decided i like road bikes. The old one is far too big (i never intended to ride it) i can just stand over it and with the seat set there is only about 2″ of seat post showing and riding on the hoods I’m stretched out really far forward.

I’m 5′ 8″ so im going by the recommended size and reading a bit on forums the 54 top tube should be o.k?

Cheers for all the advice people 😀

Hopefully this will be a cost effective way of building a entry level bike as i said earlier i like the old carrera even riding it with the massive frame is fun just not very comfy!

Just spotted the posts about internal headsets maybe look at an alternative frame fine head set adjustments and carefull is not me 🙂

Cheers for the reply’s so a SAB frame would be a decent upgrade? Seen a Graham Weigh budget frame but it does not look as nice.

I think the carrera is 16 speed ( cant remember without looking and not at home ) 2 rings up front.

Cheers timb34 I hve new bar tape and inner cables already , The seatpost and front mech are the same sizes would use a new headset and bottom bracket so I suppose it depends whether the frame would work with current gears like globalti says.

Like I said im happy with the bike despite it not being a top brand its just a tad large

Advice taken but may I ask why it will be a headache ? The bike has mavic wheels and shimano sora. (flightdeck?) igroupset these wont fit then ? Im genuinely intrested in the answer the bits on the bike dont look much different to the bikes I see in the shop.

My knowledge of fighting dogs comes from my father. In the late 80’s, he was a Police Officer who spent several years under cover infiltrating dog fighting gangs, buying and selling pit bulls, staffies etc.

I retract my media statement then it obviously does not apply to you but i was talking about the breed in general not the ones have been trained to fight and respect to your Dad it is not a job i could stomach.

Why was the Staffy never put on the Dangerous dogs act? I had a quick look on there and the only one i recognise is the pitbull.

The facts are that they are ugly dogs mostly owned by shell suit wearers.
Why anyone would want one is beyond me.
I used to love going to see the dogs at the rspca and dream of which one we would have. 95% of them now are Staffies. Shit dogs owned (should I say given away once it chewed the x box) by shit people.

Well that’s your opinion but i don’t think I’m shit and i don’t own a xbox but since where giving opinions i think your a nob 😆

Also the Staffie is one of only two dogs from 190 the kennel club recommends as suitable with children !

Just to add balance obviously i love my Staffie but the other week on a local trail i was met by a very angry Staf and a owner screaming for him to come back (he was quite a way away) the dog was very aggressive and i felt sure it was a close call whether it attacked or not the guys comment when he finally got it on the lead ” Glad she was not going for me she’s a vicious little bugger”

These are the ones that need shooting not the dog what made it a hundred times worse was a few days later i spotted it again off the lead 🙁 It makes me sad i own a popular dog which is popular with a lot of the population i would call scum 🙄

Im not suggesting they only wright about Staffs but there the favorite at the moment 90’s were rotweillers (sp?) 70’s ? Doberman?

Never heard so much crap on this forum, The Wiki is pretty much lifted from the Kennel Club site who know about dogs unlike the media were some of you do your research maybe try reading a book?
