I’m with SimonBarnes on this, how funny is this thread.

And for the record I often go for a beer with my mates after a ride

Been in this situation twice, 1st time the LBS said 6 weeks to sort out as THEY were busy, ended up dealing with the manufacturer and got a new frame and full service within 24 hours. Haven’t used that shop since, but have bought that brand again.

2nd time was helping a mate, he bought a bike (£2.7K) from his LBS, and after many weeks of bickering with them about his cracked frame, I stepped in for him and quoted his rights to the shop and said we’d go legal if necessary, and what do you know, new frame next day.

If they are going to take the money, they need to be prepared to deal with any issue thereafter, when you buy a new bike the warranty forms part of the overall cost.

    Pfff

Knowing that footpath, you’d struggle to badly injure yourself on it, if he did, unlucky 😕

    Or similar

Sorry Ive zero medical training but the rare impacts that have zero/less de-acceleration I bet are similar to a car crash.

Reminds me of when a tree took me out, split my helmet, massive concussion and didn’t know where I was, what did you do Hora? Leave me and Jon immediately, Jon had never ridden on the downs before and was clueless to where we were so you could go shopping to buy your silly little dog a new jacket

    Chump

Hope the dude who fell is ok.

I have a hope pro converted to RWS 10mm and also Roval Traversee wheels on another bike.

The RWS does stiffen the rear slightly, and is easier to clamp up tight and release than a standard 9mm IMO

Just bling though and isnt life changing

I had a ti spring and air forks on the ’06

I agree with a lot of what you are saying catnash but don’t really rate many air forks, I’m a heavier rider and prefer coils.
I’d say the newer Enduros are quite similar to the 06 s-works, the comp I ride is made of M5 alloy as was the 06 s-works, both four-bar etc, but stripping a fork every 50 hours is something I cant be arsed with and the 5 year warranty is only given if you can prove that you have have it serviced every year through a qualified spesh service centre, via TF as an example http://www.tftunedshox.com/service/specialized.aspx would cost around £450 with carriage over that period.

Shame that Marz forks aren’t better and less tall, they give three years on 09 forks without any proof of maintenance, I have a number of bikes and don’t ride them enough each to warrant paying that amount of money for 5 simple services.

The switchbacks on a couple of trails near me are too tight for these forks, but for a lighter ridder they are probably a very good fork.

Mine blew overnight in the garage and I only found out as I was loading the bike onto the rack the next morning to set off from Surrey to the Lakes, I can do without issues like that.

The 06 was a peach and I always rode mediums, I started getting back pain so switched to large when I bought another in late 08, which is probably my size at a smidge under 6’2″

I wouldnt DH either bike, but then it depends on what you are calling DH, Ie I wouldn’t want to rag it in the Alps, but some would.

Marz have really tall lowers generally and I wouldnt want any of their recent forks <08 due to everyone who I know who has bought them is having problems (07-08) 09’s might be better but thats reflected in the warrenty and the RRP

The E150 forks on the 08 Enduros are pretty rubbish though, unreliable, odd size axle, tall lowers (about 15mm more than the fox) look gash and are crap for turning on tight switchbacks

I think it would be fine if you are riding solo or in a group with similar bikes, you’ll struggle if the group are on XC bikes though.

The build will effect it as well, go tubeless with lighter wheels and tyres and you’ll see a big change in how the bike rolls

I have an 08 SX and an 08 Enduro and have owned 04/5 enduros and 06 S-works enduro before.

My SX was at 35lb with Vans and DHX coil, have just put the Vans on the Enduro and it weighs a smidge over 30lbs and makes for a good XC/AM syle fun bike:

And yesterday put Totems on the SX and it weighs 35.75lb, I am yet to ride it though:

If you’re super worried about weight, the Enduro might be a better choice?
    —————————————————————————-
I originally bought the SX as my bike for all but found it didn’t suit and bought the enduro later in a sale – so that’s probably the answer you were looking for?

I had this happen before, last resort for me was to get the largest flat head screwdriver I had, hammer it into where the allen key goes and then got some moles grips on and twisted, needed a new axle, but the old one was a bit crappy anyway, good luck

I’ve got an 08 SX and 08 Enduro, I’ve been playing with the builds of both bikes, with bits I have.

Just took the Van36’s off the SX and stuck them on the Enduro at lunchtime:

Should be a lot of fun and weighs 30.5lb

I used to use a Van/DMR combo, now 5-10/Gusset Slim Jim

Better grip although not excessive, slimmer pedal (slightly concave too)

I had an older jacket that was waterproof but was ill fitting (too baggy) and didn’t breathe.

Two weeks ago I went into retailer to try a few on, its all well and good taking advice from others if they are the same shape as you and have the same riding style, some jackets are more road biased in their shape and others are looser fitting etc, so try before you buy.

I went with the idea that I was going to buy a Gore, actually found that an Altura fitted me a lot better and appeared slightly heavier in grade which for me is a consideration as I only ride off road and fall off occasionally.

    £50 off retail: http://www.cyclesurgery.com/1027542/-Altura—Attack–Extreme-Jacket.html

Wore it last Saturday when it was tipping down, it kept me warm and dry, now purchasing shorts too 🙂

    Maybe another brand to consider?

Have had both in air, 2-step and 55ATA on an AM bike, both went seriously wrong, go coil of buy Fox Floats/Talas, currently running VAN’s on my FR bike
