Binners the issue of grouse shooting damaging the moors and flooding towns in the hills is a massive one. To the people who get flooded every other year in places like Todmorden and Hebden Bridge I can guarantee you it’s a much more important issue than the free movement of labour in the EU and trade tariffs.

Yet they probably should care about Brexit given that a fair chunk of the flood defence funding is coming from the EU, and the recent applications to UK Gov have been rejected.

    OK

There has been no sneering, dismissal or ridicule from me when ever I have entered this thread.

I’m very aware of the positives of being in the EU but can’t really think of many negatives, certainly none that would make me vote Leave.

So what are these legitimate issues with EU membership that have caused so many people to vote Leave?

I’m a fervent remainer and believe the UK will be irrevocably damaged by leaving the EU. However, I think it’s time to do just that as advocated by Dazh et al on this thread; we need to honour the vote and give the **** that voted for it what they want and let them suffer the consequences.

If health and social care fail then so be it.

If jobs are decimated so be it.

If the welfare state contracts massively, so be it.

If the disenfranchised poor (who seem to be partially instrumental in this) suffer then so be it – they are voting for it so they should have it.

Obviously, if we do manage to reinvigorate the economy, regain the empire and move forward in a country of prosperity then it will have been worth it.

    If not, ****’em.

I really am past **** caring.

Balls to the lot of them; I’m looking after me and mine from now on.

I was one of those administering CPR prior to the paramedics arriving.
We had no response from the guy for all the time we were working on him and it took the paramedics quite a while and numerous shocks to get a pulse.
Once he was relatively stable he was airlifted to Leeds.
Paramedics were reasonably optimistic but it’s unlikely we’ll ever know the outcome.
Please be aware that the Examiner piece is typical of their journalistic standard and has many, if not all, the details wrong.

Fingers crossed that he makes a good recovery.

Last post from me on this.

I also object to the middle class jibes. I still work for a living and both me and my wife are from mining families.

Now I’ve retrained as a nurse I’m obviously part of the chosen elite and deserve the hatred of those poor souls who weren’t as fortunate as me.

    Dazh.

I come from the same streets too, this is predominantly my family I’m talking about who despise me because I worked like hell to get out rather than just sit in Castleford doing **** all after the pits closed.

I always thought they could get out too but the bottom line is most of them just can’t be bothered.

They don’t want a fair crack of the whip, they want it on a plate, no risk, no cost to them. And if they don’t get it run it surely must be someone else’s fault.

On the back of a few things this past week.

I’ve always been pretty left-wing and believed in supporting those less fortunate in society via taxation and redistribution of wealth. It always seemed to be the fairest thing to do.

Since the vote I’ve heard people spout on about ‘taking back control’, ‘making Britain great again’, ‘Beating the Germans once and for all’, ‘getting rid of the ****’ and such bollocks.

I’ve read on here, and elsewhere, how the working class in deprived areas want Brexit and don’t give a **** about people like me who want opportunities for our children above and beyond a minimum wage job or continuing to claim benefits; this has been confirmed by conversations with the dimmer end of my family who have, since the closure of the pits, sat on the dole moaning about how they deserve more of everything, and are fervent supporters of a no deal Brexit ‘cos Britain is great and we’ll win out against those nasty foreigners in the end.

They really do believe that they are poor because loads of foreigners are coming over here being given shedloads of cash and free houses.

They don’t care that Brexit will reduce opportunities for others as they have no aspirations for themselves or their kids so it doesn’t matter if they mess up other peoples lives.

So if it all goes to shit then they deserve what is coming to them; we can easily absorb a 20% hike in living costs if necessary, lets hope they can.

From now on I will be in it for me and mine.

    They can **** right off.

The funeral was incredibly moving and left many, including me, quite broken.
It was heartbreaking, yet heartening, to hear family, friends and colleagues share their memories of BJ; it seems he was lots of different things to lots of people and time and again someone shared an experience where you could just think ‘ yeah, that was him all over’.
For those who don’t know a number of teams/pairs and solo riders are all doing 10 Under the Ben in memory of BJ and would love your support as they slog round the course.
Main thoughts are, as always, with Vicky, their boys and BJ’s family.

Keep trying to write something succinct but fitting, and keep failing.

Instead I will repost what my eldest lad wrote elsewhere:

‘BJ was such a great guy and always really supportive of myself and Zach as we were growing up. He’ll be missed.’

I’ve returned to Amazon Prime as of today. Never had a problem with them but ma<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>de a decision, last year, to use them as little as possible, use the high street and shop local. The experience has been really poor with appalling customer service and second rate goods.</span>

Currys PC World today was the straw that broke the camels back. Uninterested staff and a rude manager.

The one on Leeds Road, Huddersfield, to be precise. The company will never see another penny of mine.

NHS Community Nurse working with people with learning disabilities.

Hate it to the point of it making me ill. Most of my colleagues feel the same.

Love working with the people themselves but the patients and their families have taken a very distant back seat to a host of centrally imposed numberical targets.

I’m sure I will die much earlier from the stress of the job but until the mortgage is paid I’m stuck. Perhaps if I didn’t care it would help.

Sat here now feeling sick as I know I have to go start work soon.

Went hiking rather than biking yesterday.

Was a bit bleak and windy coming off Black Hill down into Holme at around 6.00 pm, as this video shows.

Glad I solo’d it, can’t see my missus thanking me if I had taken her out in that.

If you know someone or have good recommendations about a local garage then that’s probably best.

Between a Kwikfit/ATC/National centre or a garage you don’t know then both equally might try to stitch you up.

I’ve used VS for the last 8 years and that doesn’t ring true for Bob to say that at all.

Was a lot more than 8 years ago, I would reckon about 2003, possibly earlier.

    Maybe new owners since then?

Never used VS since I asked my wife to call in and get some inner tubes with schrader valves.

He told her no such product existed and sold her a couple of presta ones instead.

So as a fat 50 year old wearing a backpack on a Giant Trance with Chunky Monkey tyres on, how am I fairing with an 11 mph average on a 14 mile ride around Huddersfield.

Painting them green is probably the best option.

I went for blue pins on my vaults, 2 weeks riding and they’re pretty much silver, barely any anodizing left.

If you buy cornflakes, you have to pay for them.

Why is it acceptable to watch BBC output and not pay for it?

I don’t but I am expected to subsidise the people who do choose to watch the BBC as they seem unprepared to pay the full cost of their viewing and want folk like me to contribute.

It’s amazing that in a world where people will pay 50quid for ad laden sky or subscribe to Netflix and Amazon that funding the BBC seems suck a hardship

    To me it’s about choice.

If I choose to pay for Sky I still have to pay the BBC for the privilege.

If I buy Asda cornflakes I don’t have to still pay Kelloggs.

Money no object then I think somewhere like Canada but Great Divide type riding rather than bike park stuff.

However, as money did figure we went on a Transit van/tent trip to Tignes, Val D’Isere, Les Deux Alpe and Alpe D’Huez in 2014 for just short of a month to bike/hike and generally play about in the mountains.

    Wasn’t long enough.

Or you could develop a system where those who want to use the BBC can pay for it – you know, like every other TV channel/service.

And for the record I do pay the TV licence but watch very little, if any, BBC either live or on line.

Just can’t be arsed to go through the rigmarole involved in opting out of extortion amounting to £3 per week.

Continental Explorer is a cheap and weedy old thing.

I like On One Chunky Monkeys as they are pretty tough, grip well and are cheap.

If you like Conti’s there are much better tyres than the Explorer.

X fusion Velvets and Rockshox Revelations on Chainreaction – both 15mm front hubs.

Choice very limited for new but quite a lot available used.

If you want new then I reckon you’ll need to be quick.

What model tyre did you rip?

Fire extinguisher, now there’s an idea.

The Monkey rim interface is slack though, especially one tyre which barely stays on – if I grab just the tyre and shake it then the wheel will fall out Other Monkey is a much tighter fit.

Not sure how confident I would be about it staying on the rim when cornering hard

    Nobeerinthefridge.

2 of them were already tubed for more than overnight.

Took them off, Stans tape and valve as per instruction, refit tyre, soap on bead and wont go up with my pump. Cant see how another night of tubed will help when the past 3 months tubed didn’t.

Reckon it’s the low airflow of the track pump, although I hear of plenty of others who only used a track pump.

Assume I need a compressor or one of those airshot devices – cost of them will pay for a lot of inner tubes though.

Alternatively I could get the LBS to fit them but that will work out expensive when wanting to swap tyres about regularly and add more sealant every couple of months.
