It seems to me that no planning laws were broken, not sure about any of the other stuff but I’m not as clever as you.

My comment was more about some of the other posts which seemed to indicate that people thought you should always mind your own business and not be a curtain twitcher.

I actually think you knew this but wanted to prove your superiority, as you seem to do on most threads.

So will the STW consensus be that we should ignore criminality and antisocial behaviours?

    Even bike theft?

    From Conti’s website

Black Chili is only made at our factory in Korbach, Germany. No other tyre facility in the world has access to its secrets.

    http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/general/innovation/blackchili_en.html

Non BC are reported to be crap as well as only about £15 whereas BC ones have a RRP of £45ish.

… and he also happened to be carrying a speed gun?

I love this quote and seem to hear it quite often nowadays.

Granted that most people couldn’t state mph accurately, I reckon most folk of reasonable IQ may be able to notice when a car is travelling at a significantly higher speed than normal.

As an example my neighbour was hit coming out of her drive a few months back. Car that hit her was described by numerous witnesses as travelling at excessive speed (given he overtook some of them you’d think they would have some idea). He then went on to jump the red light (and the car in front of him who had already stopped for the light) near her house and hit her as she moved out.

Him and his insurance company were quick to point out that a) none of the witnesses were carrying speedguns and b) as regards the RLJ it was his word against that of the lone witness.

Police not particularly interested and did no investigation at the scene as they ‘needed to get traffic flowing as soon as possible’.

Up shot is that he is claiming for his car and whiplash on her insurance and she will lose her full NCB.

Stick with it. Once everyone has a 29er I’m sure the mags will decide 26 is where it’s at.

No problems with mud when going out on my own for a local ride, but like to get out with family one day per weekend: missus and kids (12 and 15) all keen bikers.

It’s just such a ballache getting home to have to clean up 4 bikes and 4 sets of kit, wash 4 lots of clothes then get it all dry. Then pull the bikes out again the next day to lube the chains a bit more for those bits that, irrespective of how careful I am, have been missed by lubejob 1.

Plus, if we’ve driven to ride rather than do local stuff, the car needs a bit of a wipe over so it doesn’t look like I’ve been keeping cattle in it.

I had my posh road bike out on sunday for the first time in a while. Was thinking “this is still a lovely wee bike, no reason to get another one”. Then nearly fell on my arse when had to grab the rear brake in a hurry and the back locked up (stuffing food in my face with right hand, sheep had set up an ambush) managed to save it but gave the sheep a good laff.

Disc brakes yay yay yay !! Where do I sign ??

I’m not sure more powerful brakes are going to stop you locking your wheels.

    What project said.

Emergency services all turned up not knowing what they would find. Could easily have been explosives, chemicals or some other dangerous substance; and no idea if there would be dangerous people on the scene.

Hats off to all of them.

Although I don’t doubt that you did a very hard workout, it wasn’t a tabata protocol.

What happened to roaming / access rights in Scotland?

Full access rights so long as you get there under your own steam BUT if you go up on the train you are limited to the viewing areas.

Suppose it works on 2 levels: reduces the risk of people who are not ‘mountain savvy’ from wandering off into some pretty remote country after the hard work of the climb is dispensed with; and reduces the total number of people in a quite sensitive habitat.

Don’t really see why it’s a ripp-off. More an attempt to stop people driving without insurance – don’t really see the issue with SORNing a vehicle if you’re not using it. If it’s taxed you can claim it back. If it’s not insured and you’re trying to sell it, no one can take it for a test drive anyway (even if the test driver is insured to drive all vehicles) – so what’s the difference.

Except it only really targets people who are honest and, normally tax, test and insure their car.

Mr Scrote who buys a car but fails to send off for a logbook, pay insurance or tax can ride around with little cause to worry as there are so few Police around there’s only an outside chance of getting caught.

Or so it seems to me.

Also add, scrap sickness benefits; if you fall ill, hurt yourself on your bike, develop cancer etc. then you’re no use to society.

Why should us hard working tax payers be expected to keep your family?

I’d tax stupidity…. it seems that there is a rich seam in the UK. Specifically your tax code would derived from you exhibiting certain behaviors, the folowing examples would all attract an aditional tax burden:
    Wearing sportswear while shopping

Bugger, I regularly wear baggies as everyday clothing.

Now I did ok at O levels, bit better at A levels, quite well in my first degree qualification and very well when returning to HE to become a nurse.

Now, I may be getting on a bit but my lads GCSE syllabus seems quite complex compared to what I had to do in 1980.

Not convinced that they are easy at all.

Maybe they breed and release fish to hunt a la the grouse industry.

You could come home with some nice trophies: three cod, four koi carp and a guppy.

I must guiltily admit that I kept sending my kids into the Original Source tent again and again.

We have just opened the last large bottle of gel but do have a number of the tiny ones left.

Maybe I’m just a simple soul but it seems to me that what we need in the long term is a return to more traditional industries, maybe growing more of our own food and making more of the things we use.

I really can’t understand how we can be predominantly consumers rather than producers and not get progressively poorer as a nation.

This shows the pawl fitment in a bit more detail but you’ll need to enlarge the pic a bit.

No worries so long as you can find 3 springs and 3 pawls, if not you will have to buy a new set.

TBH it looks like it needed a clean out anyhows.

    This will help you:

    http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/fettling/3-wheels/5-hope-xc-rear-hub-service.html

You only need the freehub off and on bit (don’t replace all the bearings!!!!!!)

ps I put a bolt up skewer through and nip it down prior to pulling the cassette so as to avoid what has happened to you,.

    Yer big jessie!!

When I used to lift the measure of a decent (not good) lifter was 300lb bench press, 400lb squat and 500lb deadlift.

If recovery is taking so long that it actively interferes with other training sessions then it is counter-productive.

Drop the number of sets and reps and slowly build up.

    I’d keep riding it.

If it failed completely you are unlikely to die, unless you have to ride 25 miles home with the saddle in the lowest position.

EDIT: cut it and put the slit at the back so the top tube not an issue?

    Get yourself there.

I have a 350 mile round trip tomorrow to ride in the Forest of Dean.

Although it’s really to see folk I’ve not seen in a while rather than the ride itself.

So do most people nowadays and I believe this is what fosters so much dissatisfaction.

Not that I can change it for anyone else, just myself.

Thinking about this and the under £27K thing.

If, for example, 5000 people work in an NHS Trust earning under the £27K then they may well not be net contributors in purely monetary terms. However, their contribution to society as a whole is still extremely valuable and far in excess of their monetary cost.

The same is also true of unpaid carers of the young, aged or disabled, assembly workers in a multinational manufacturing firm or a myriad of others within our society both public and private sector.

Their stuff now is consistently good now rather then one good track, one poor track albums of the past.

So does everyone ignore manufacturers recommendations in other areas, say running their car tyres at 15-20 psi?
