I find myself compelled to make this weird clicking noise through my teeth by way of greeting to sheep (and cows) when I’m on my bike.
Wish I knew why and what I think it will achieve.

I bet they’d prefer it if I actually spoke to them.

I’m in a similar position, the sole on my Scarpa Quests have had it, though the rest of the shoe is still fine :?

Am gutted that the soles have gone, as they’re supremely comfortable, look ace, and are great for riding.

Have been looking around for some replacements that will last a little longer and I quite like the look of the Scarpas. There’s also the Quests which are similar but not as waterproof?

Would be interested to hear how you get on with them…

as per all the above really, never say never etc

some friends went on holiday recently and asked us to pop round and feed their bengals am and pm each day. We did, but didn’t see the cats at all the whole time, not out of character for the older one, but the young ‘un is like clockwork for feeding. Should have been put in a battery imho, but not my decision to make. One night we arrive to an rspca card on the door – cue big panic, frantic calls etc… Transpires that a ‘concerned’ neighbour had been locking the young ‘un in their garage overnight because they thought it had been abandoned. Poor thing was traumatized, its really changed his character and he still isn’t back to normal. Bar. Stewards.

…shameless self promotion but I’m selling my old Club Roost XC4 frame, it’s a single pivot somewhat similar to the older Santa Cruz Superlight design…

Thanks all – I’d been looking at the Sport versions of both the Civic and the Jetta, not because they’re any quicker but because I like how they look!

I’d be wanting a manual anyway, and am struggling to justify the additional expense of the diesel, even though it does look like the better engine in each. Plus the diesels look like they’ll cost an extra couple of hundred to insure each year…

Will see if I can arrange some test drives :o)

I was sceptical but it’s depressingly flat near me, so there’s no excuse really.

I like that it’s so much quieter and simpler than a conventionally geared bike.

On one hand it’s more difficult because you spend much less time at your ‘optimum’ cadence/speed, but on the other hand you’re never trying to find the right gear – it’s just a case of grit your teeth and endure the pain.

Because you spend more time out of the saddle I’ve also ditched the suspension fork and it’s much better (for the commute, anyways…)

I wouldn’t want to always ride ss, but it’s definitely a lot of fun.

And girls will find you irresistible

Bike wise I just converted a normal steel hardtail (Sanderson Breath) from gears to ss, figured if I didn’t like it there wouldn’t be much lost.

Bought from the forums, resprayed and singlespeeded – whichever the cheaper of the Life/Breath is.

    Absolutely love it!

I’ve had a few pairs of cheap bolle safety glasses, think it was from Safety-One. As others have said, they do scratch easily, but if you treat them as almost disposable you can’t go wrong.

I keep a pair of the very slightly tinted ones in the car for ’emergencies’. God only knows what that might be!

I’ve had mutanoraptors and they were ace.
I had some nanoraptors too which were really fast rolling – great for commuting but without the commuter look…

WTB were quite late to the tubless game though, wasn’t there an interview in Singletrack with the main guy (Dave Weir?)

Well she's just starting her own businesses (!) so I had thought about getting the logos made up into stickers, but Tangetillizer isn't bad.

Is Flange Tickler lowering the bar too much?

Oooh, Tangefastic would be quite good!

    Yup, that was them.
Came up as about 2.1kg (on the kitchen scales – shhhhh!), for a 16" which didn't seem too bad…

It's quite a nice paint finish – on this one at least – sort of pearlescent/with a bit of a glitter in it.

On the pics on ebay it looked like the whole of the inside of the bb shell had been painted, I asked the seller for clarification a couple of times, but didn't get a response. Turns out it had been blanked off (ish) with a bit of white card and it was that you can see in the pics.

Tyre clearance isn't huge and I've seen nicer welds, but can't grumble for the money.

This is mine, built up for commuting duties – hence the surprisingly effective reflective black tape/

Conspicuous lack of chain at the moment, scavenged temporarily for the SOs bike…

    Marmite and banana.

To say I was sceptical would be an understatement, but now I'm a total convert…

EDIT Dammit, beaten to it, and more than once too.

thanks chief, think I'd been making it too complicated. White frame + black everything else seems like a good idea… :o)

    OK, daft question time.
Can you use these with shimano bbs, or can you put the rings on a shimano crank?

…I got a newsletter from on-one, there's a code (EM36EUROBIKE) that lets you get them for £15.99, which is surely the bargain of the century?

…as a result of some confusion between the SO and myself, I've got some brand new Oakleys if you're interested?
    1 pair each of:
Scalpels (polished black frame, polarised grey lens)
Radar Pitch (matt black frame, grey lens)

and for the more attractive gender…

Enduring Edge (metallic black frame with black Iridium lens)

Personally I've got a beaten up pair of half jackets and a pair of flak jackets 'for best'. Both a sort of gold-y colour frame with gold iridium lenses

The SO fancies a plain steel framed bike for the looks, this might be a go-er.
    Anyone got one?

From my sister, some years ago:

Unless you want to dent the (metal)rear bumper of a Metro, bend your forks backwards by 30° and trash your wheel, always check how close you are to parked cars before you look down and try to see where your brakes are rubbing on your rim…

I asked a similar question recently and the good folks here pointed me at BETD for Enduro replacement bearings.

Quick turnaround, and bearings were fitted for free…

I've commuted with a Deuter Cross City for the past few years – it's been excellent, truly cavernous and has been bombproof thus far.

Not the lightest of bags but I've put that down to the laptop padding.

Interestingly, I also recently bought a fairly large Wingnut backpack, which is loads – like, ridiculously – better to ride with.
Don't like commuting with it though due to the lack of internal organisation.

    Thanks all.

I'll take it all apart again this evening and see how much of an expensive mess I've made of things.

    Bugger.

So, in the worst case – think I saw Ribble selling SLX chainsets (minus BB) for £70 or so, or some other alternative cheapy singlespeed cranks that work with HTII BBs.
