So. I’ve decided to give it a go, despite being able to buy something cheaper and/or better. I’m rubbish with electronics but the best way to learn is by doing, right?

I’ve ordered a triple Nichia 219 star (plus driver and various other bits and bobs) from here: https://illuminationsupply.com/nichia-nvsl219ath1-4500k-92-cri-b10-bin-20mm-triple-star-p-160.html

And one of the 20mm housings (as above) from here: http://www.easy2led.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181

I should be able to cobble the rest of the bits I’ll need from what I have in the parts box.

Not sure how long it will all take to arrive but when it does I’ll probably need to ask some basic soldering questions. Can’t wait!

Me too meehaja – worst crash I’ve had!
Going much too fast into an off camber right hander, chalky/slimy so no grip. Knackered wrist, knee, ribs, cracked helmet and everything.
Loading bike into car and driving home with one functioning arm not my best idea…

Thanks OP, ordered me some last night :D
    Toasty toes ahoy!

You’re right, I did mean chain tug. Oops!
Fork is an orange f8- it’s not great but it’s all that budget permits for now!

Weeksy – they’re reflector things, a legacy from when I could commute to work and was a bit paranoid about not being visible from the side. They do work very well but will come off shorly!

Wwaswas – they’re nice aren’t they. No clue as to chainring size though. It’s right at the limit of what the singulator can accommodate, there’s about half a turn of adjustment left I think.

    That is lovely.

Thanks, I had it powder coated for my own benefit a couple of years ago. Have ridden it and loved it ever since.
Its just that im a bit fickle and fancy a change now!

    Thanks – that’s about what I thought.

Paint was tatty/worn when I got it but it was otherwise in good nick.
Rather than try to bodge up the existing paint I thought I’d go for a clean start.

I’m from Melton so I can’t not post something on a thread about pork pies. I suspect I was raised on them.

Can’t believe I’d forgotten about this.
That’s my Friday evening entertainment sorted!

Bugger. I got all excited thinking I could save enough to justify a new bike there.
    Thanks anyway Jamie!

Ignore this thread, looks like it’s been done to death already.
Thought I was onto something for a moment there.

I’ve recently put a singular swift fork on my ti456. No complaints whatsoever – as others have said it’s particularly brilliant for climbing, and will be lower maintenance for the winter. Do it!

In my case it looks like it was user error – there’s a small lip (like a cowl on a rear dropout but much smaller) that runs around the perimeter of the bit that you put the QR into.

If you’re imprecise (like I was) when you put the wheel into the fork, the edge of the large, flat circular section of the QR can rest on this lip rather than the bit inside the lip that it’s supposed to rest on.

    Obviously, that sets everything wonky.

I recently had exactly the same issue with a swift fork – thought I was losing my mind. Nothing to do with the wheel, it was fine in the old fork. I fixed it by being a bit less heavy handed when tightening the QR. Not ridden it much since then so not sure if it’s still like it or not – am riding in the morning so will check then!

    I had this problem.
Used Nitromors, cotton wool, sharp point thing, patience.
    It took bloody ages.

You need a bit more padding as a swimmer to give you a smoother hydrodynamic profile, innit?

The skinsuits are super tight to make you as smooth as possible, and you can squeeze fat about much better than you can squeeze muscle.

Also, with fat being less dense than muscle you’d be relatively more buoyant with a higher percentage of bodyfat, which would enable you to ‘sit’ higher in the water, which would also reduce drag.

    I think.

Hmm. The Singular Cycles website is coming up as a “Reported Attack Page” for me.

Anyone else having the same problem?

    Thanks Jonba.
I’ve got revs on mine too, so that’s really helpful.

Those new on-one carbon forks look nice, but I’m not sure that they’re £150 nice?

I gave some prototype beers from Brew Dog as Christmas presents.
Can’t seem them on their site any more, but they have a very interesting range of guest beers?

I have some of these running off a 12V battery in my man cave:

They suit my needs. The dimmer makes a hell of a din though, so I generally just don’t plug the dimmer in.

Our Jack Russell/Chiwawa cross does this when she gets some speed up too.
I thought it was linked to her being freakishly small, but it does look like it’s so her back legs can fit between her front legs.

    I hadn’t worried about it.

Thanks folks, good tips all around.

fatboyjon – that’s just what I was thinking/hoping, so I’ve just sent him an email to that end.

    Dangerboy

    Yup, that’s the one.
He says he’s having problems with the modes. From his latest email:
“the user mode is not working at all read the manual seen vids on youtube and this is not working at all all i get is high intermitant with flickering and strobe i have been trying this for hours and i honestly believe it is faulty so i would like to return it to you sorry but its not as described”

It sounds like operator error to me, but it’s the lack of punctuation that worries me the most.

Anyway, I’ve vented now and I’m feeling much better.
Glad to know I’m not alone, but a little sadder at the state of society if this kind of thing happens all the time.

I’ve decided I might go and live in the woods.

Though I was initially resistant to it, I’ve been watching the current series of Skins and some of the music choices on there really are excellent.

Particularly Alo’s episode, which is where I heard of Tom Rosenthal:

Lots of stuff to download for free and his excellent album is inexpensive over at Amazon…

Bluesuntree do a dangerously tempting array of interesting designer reprotuction furniture and they’ve got a showroom in Leicester (near B&Q, if that helps?)…

I get a lot of my new music via Gorilla vs. Bear[/url].

Their mixtapes can be a bit hit and miss, but they’re a good way of finding new music if you can’t get 6 music. Usually more convenient than downloading the individual tracks too.

I’m liking the new Burial EP at the moment, particularly Ashtray Wasp, and I quite Niki and the Dove’s The Fox.

    I’ve got an aeropress too.
I think it makes great coffee, plus it’s easily secreted away in ridiculously small amount of cupboard space in my kitchen.

Thanks – will have a look.
None of my bike lights look as though they’ll take a P60 without some clever tinkering on my part.

Ooh, just seen the TrustFire TR-3T6 for $45.

Wondering if I could blank off the end and connect a battery pack for a cheap/crazy bright bar light…

I don’t use it (or the bike) enough at the moment though.

Mine arrived yesterday and I’ll echo what mtbtomo said – suberb looking and really comfy. They’re pretty tight on sizing though, my 9.5’s are snug, to say the least..

I missed a call from them about a problem with the order too.
Phoned them back and spoke with a really helpful guy who’d actually got a pair of them himself (and not that this helped but he said they were awesome). He said that their stock system was a little laggy, and they’d sold loads of them so they were out of stock.

However, he did say that they were getting some more in, and that when it arrived they’d send a set out to me at the agreed price – not sure if that was because it was one of the first last orders (if you see what I mean) though.

I might be biased because I’m still hopeful of getting some new shoes, but I was really impressed by the service – quick to inform of problems and super helpful on the phone.

Might change my mind if the shoes don’t show up though!

    Good call Kevevs.

    I’d nominate:
    – From the tie fighter to when the vocals start in Ash’s Lose Control
    – The bit in Unkle’s Lonely Soul when the beat kicks back in (around 6:30)
    – The start of The Only One’s Another Girl Another Planet. Actually, the whole damn song
    – Not sure it counts as a ‘bit’, but the feeling you get when you close your eyes and listen to Elbow’s Scattered Black and Whites
    – The last minute of Max Richter’s Last Days
