Thanks all. Maybe switching to 650b is a better first step. 650b qr wheelsets seem fairly thin on the ground but wiggle/CRC have Prime Orros that might be worth a punt.

Thanks all. In a spot of perfect timing, took a call from work this afternoon (I’m on leave this week) saying that my role is at risk – so toe overlap worries have just taken a back seat.

Well I’ve decided to take a punt on these over BB7s. Thanks OP!

Looks like I’ve seen this too late but Planet X appear to have bb7s for about £24 per end (callipers only) at the moment.

Ha, thanks folks. Either way, they’re slightly cheaper now.

One more question: bb7 road calipers @£24 each, or spyres at £42 each.
Are spyres that much better than bb7s?

I did exactly this when I had to shift a ton of topsoil from the front of the house round to the back.
Nothing exploded, I did not die.
You’ll be fine so long as you don’t fill it more than about a quarter full

Looking to switch to a more appropriate electricity tariff.
    Anything better than Octopus Go?

Wish I’d seen this thread a week ago.

I had a pairpof fitflop shuvs for years and they were amazing. Now in some Birkenstock super birkis – plastic clogs with a cork footbed – great for gardening/outdoors and seemingly indestructible, but not that snuggly.

Have just tried on and returned (Amazon wardrobe!) some sorrel falcon ridge and a couple of pairs of Haflingers because they didn’t feel right. Haflingers were lovely but we’re either too big or too small.

Some more Fitflops are in the post, but if I’d seen this I’d have tried the Romikas.

Really like the look of Olukai Moloas but they are £££

I bought a spin bike because we’ve just had a baby and I can’t see me getting out on the bike anytime soon. And my knee is knackered so when it flares up I can stop and hobble indoors rather than finish the ride.

Wasn’t expecting the fixed flywheel at first; nearly threw me over the bars!

I went for one with magnetic resistance rather than friction. Was a bit more than I had wanted to spend upfront, but figured I’d get it back in th longer term by it being one less thing to service. All good so far. Smooth and quietish.

I missed out on a mint one from a private sellet on ebay, so ended up getting mine from a dealer that resells used gymn kit, via ebay. Think they were based in Hinckley. fitkit-uk maybe? Huge unit packed to the rafters and stock seemed to turn over quite well when I was looking.

I have one, on crossclimates. It was fine.

But we didn’t have that much snow compared to some.

We do a lot on the topic at my place of work (Manufacturing Technology Centre) but I’m not involved directly.

We have an annual Digitalising Manufacturing event too:

    http://www.the-mtc.org/event-items/digitalising-manufacturing-conference-2018

Which is a bit of a shame because for some reason I find it hard to say “digitalising”

I have a civic estate, really happy with it.

Base spec, 64 plate, I paid £10k and thought that was a good price at the time

The little 1.6 diesel unit is brilliant; responsive, enough power, good economy. Loads of space for bikes and a sensible shaped load bay.

Other good points: magic rear seats, dab radio. Drives well. Reporting over 65mpg in the year/20k miles I have had it. Much better ride than prev gen civic. The posh ones have some sort of active ride control I think.

Minor gripes: front passenger seat doesn’t fold flat like it did in the Peugeot 308 estate. Mine doesn’t have reversing sensors. A pillars are a bit wide. Can of gunk rather than a spare tyre.

    Thanks folks.
Quotes I have are inclusive of materials and all necessary works in attic. Loft ladder already installed but will need walkway, rail, platform and lighting.

    Great Psa!
I needed 205/55r16 and they came to £61 each, delivered. Bargain.

I too have a Nitecore tip cri.
Nice light but it’s been properly battered by my keys. Like that it’s rechargeable and the two brightness levels are well judged. However, round torch > square torch I think.

I’ve just taken a punt on some Bowers and Wilkins P5s from the Amazon outlet, £75 delivered. Used but as new condition, apparently. Bit nervous but if they’re ok figured I will struggle to do better for the money. If they’re knackered I’ll send em back.

I’ve got some Grade SR60s, they sound ace but open backed is no good to me these days; need them to shut noise out as much as to listen to music.

    Another vote for
All-Ett wallets from me. Have had a number of the leather ones and, though they have worn out eventually, haven’t found anything better. Will have one of their rfid blocking ones when current one eventually expires.
I usually order a few at a time from the US and gift a couple to family.

I’m mid-build at the moment. Found a sash clamp that I had forgotten I had. Thought it was worth a try. Worked better than I could have hoped!

Steerer on the RC31 too short, so managed to snag a pair of DC37s from Velo29 (online) today. Spoke with them first, seemed good. May have been the last pair they had in stock, but were happy to try to get more in. Mine were £115, which seemed reasonable.
    Thanks for the advice folks.
    Looking forward to getting building!

Inspired by some of the beautiful builds on this thread I have decided to take the plunge; my plug frame arrived today.

Box was a bit battered but the frame looks great.

Should be able to manage most of the build with things I already have, but I do need a fork.
Can’t decide between the carbon Kinesis DC37 and the steel Soma straight blade disc cx fork.
    Anyone tried both?
Not sure why but I don’t like the Dawes Galaxy ones.
    Any other suggestions?
Had hoped RC31s would fit but they look too long…
    Thx

I used 5m of the led strip tape connected to one of those rechargeable battery packs. The pack I have has selectable output voltage, so you have some control over light output.
Was cheap, probably sub £50 all in.
Ran the led tape down the rafters, it’s quite good coverage.

Mrs DB has a Toyota iQ which is brilliant.

When I came to replace my diesel Peugeot estate (which felt like it was about to fall apart from day 1) I decided to avoid a) diesel and b) French cars.
Somehow ended up with an old (gen 2) Prius.
Prius is a much better car. Feels like it will last forever.
Can take longer loads than the estate it replaced; can fit any of the bikes in with both wheels on.
My commute is 80 miles a day, so cheap to tax, insure and run means more £ for bikes (unless Mrs DB is reading this). Really strong residuals are a good thing, especially because they run forever; I can run it for 3 years and not lose nearly as much when it is time to change again.

Great in traffic and quiet too. Not fast though.
Battery only option (for about a mile) means you can arrive or leave at unsociable hours without waking the entire neighbourhood.
Unless your brakes squeal like mine.

This thread reminded me that my cheap eBay lights died last winter.
Have decided that these are worth a punt at £40 for the pair:
izone arc 650 front and fuse 50 rear

Not the highest output nor the longest runtime but seemed like good value.
There’s an 850 lumen version of the front too at £40.

    Anyone tried one?

    What’s the sizing like?
    I’m 6ft, would I need a 56 or a 58 do you think?

Merida Cyclo Cross 300 for £456?
Surely a bargain and I think it’s pretty

    These:
    http://www.all-ett.com/mens-wallets/leather-wallets/classic-leather-original-wallet.html

Every time i kill one i look to see if there’s anything better yet.
    There never is.

Think they have a patent on the layout which is why there isnt anything else like it, and it’s the side by side card layout is what makes them so thin.

I have always had the leather ones, but they also do a fully synthetic version.

Leather ones (leather on the outside, nylon inside) usually last me at least 5 years each.

Not that worried about weight or strava.

Probably half on road, more if i ever move close enough to commute by bike.

Yes, they verbally offered to reimburse me for the outstanding leave but they’ve not said at what rate nor confirmed in writing yet.

Presumably if they don’t/won’t confirm in writing my notice letter stands?

Lots to think about, looks like I’m going to have to suck up the lack of leave and make sure I know how they’re calculating day rates.
