It’s quite common for me to ponder whether I’ve bitten off more than I can chew when I’m about 60k’s from home with lots of big hills to ride over. Planning what I’m going to eat to. Also wonder why people pass so close to me on a big road with no oncoming traffic.

I got some shimano 105 pedals for 54 quid after adding my bc discount, happy with that.

Spesh dealers are starting to discount the 18’s so keep your eyes peeled. I got a tarmac sl6 expert with £1k discount, some bike for £2.5k and no different to the 19 model. Disc brakes aren’t a deal breaker for me.

i have the same forks on my stage 4 and they are ok, for £187 they are flipping brilliant. if i had £500 quid lying about id defo get some pikes.

I was in exactly the same situation a week ago and after way to much deliberation I went for some campy zonda c17’s. Saved over 500g and early indications are good.

I have these on my stage 4, they are pretty decent but id take a set of pikes all day long. Straight out of the box with one token in they are an unrideable boingy mess imo, ive settled on 4 tokens now but even with say a 5ft drop for example i cant get the last 10mm of travel, defo the way to go though if you ride agressive as they still stay composed with fast repeated hits. I did use 3 tokens for a few rides and this would probably suit quite a lot of people to.

mavic en627 are great, I’ve built some up on pro 4’s on my big bike and they feel bulletproof. think they were less than £50 to.

I’ve got e4’s with 200/180 rotors on my trail bike and i so impressed with them, not as powerful as the code rsc’s I’ve got my big bike but defo on par with xt’s/guides. never tried v4’s though.

im lanky to (35′ inseem) mega is great, it just wants to go fast but its not a playful bike. i have a short travel bike for that so i just use the mega for uplifts/races and trips away.

I’ve got a large nukeproof mega 290 and I’m 6’2 and its a nice roomy bike, the xl must be huge.

i bought a set of tech 3 e4s a couple of months ago and they are the best brakes I’ve used in 15 years, I’ve got code rsc’s on the big bike which are undoubtably more powerful but the hopes offer more than enough power with 200/180 rotors and are a pleasure to use. i have a braided hose on the rear and for me it does offer a better feel.

Good question and that’s something I was eager to find out before I bought it but there’s no info out there sadly. So I swap between flats and clips pretty much 50/50 and whilst riding flats I’m very aware that it’s quite low and without a bit of thought you do get pedal strikes (30mm sag 170mm cranks) have no issues when riding clips, I say it’s better that my patrol c and similar to my mega 290.

Not overly worried, I would probably be economical with the truth if the worst was to happen. Frames are pleasingly lightweight to, my xl was 6.14lb with shock.

I’ve got a stage 4 and I’m very happy with it. Way way more capable than I expected it to be. Mine is an xl and it’s a lively ride and it feels really eager to go forward when your pedalling out of turns. I’ve got a cane creek on mine and it feels so planted and offers loads of grip, I’d highly recommend one. Mine has 130mm fox 34’s on it and it handles great.

weighed my xl stage 4 frame today before building it and it came in at 6.14lb with shock, lighter than i expected.

I also ordered a stage four a couple of weeks back and it’s currently in the process of being built, hoping to give it a good shakedown at the weekend. No reviews out there at all but lots of seemingly glowing real world reviews.

Yes and that was my concern, only caveat being the transition bikes are designed to work best when running 35% sag where as the orange will be closer to 25% so fingers crossed it shouldn’t be a huge issue.

@raybanwomle Showa air forks are garbage but the wp aer 48s on my ktm are as good as the kyb sss I had on my yam which everyone raves about. Cool thing is you drop 10psi out of them and they’re a decent enduro fork to.

Yeah I’m not suggesting I could tell or it would be any benefit or disadvantage on a road or fire road but with some low B.B. bikes that run a fair amount of sag it can make a difference whilst tackling technical climbs. My patrol would **** on everything if I rode flats but was ok ish if I ran clips.

i been very impressed with my guide rs brakes they have been faultless in nearly two years and thats with two weeks in whistler last year. shimano brakes for me are way to inconsistent and that opinion is based on owning three or four different sets so it can’t be a one off.

Works good on single track etc with cs engaged it perhaps does not turn quite so good as your not sat in so much sag and its a bit harsh on squares edges if you didn’t unweight the bike slightly but overall its fine to run with the cs engaged if you wish.
