I just got an edge 205 which seems quite cool. You cant use topo maps or anything like that but you can create/ follow courses or download other's to follow.

I am using mine to race myself to work to try and improve my fitness and also to plot some routes while out on the trails.

You can share your courses online in various places (I use Garmin Connect)

If you can stretch to a 305, do it if you want real-time Altitude plotting (305 has barometric altimeter, 205 does not) and Compatibility with Heart rate/ Cadence sensors.

Going to Benchmark some of my favourite trails tomorrow so I can race myself there too!

The joint of my little finger on my left hand is usually quite painful and sometimes numb.
I put this down to holding on to the bars with it and using the others to pull like hell on the brake for 95 percent of my ride (im crap)

Work and back, on my ratty old workhorse bike…

I know your pain. Same as that but on a Cheap but virtually unused Carerra TDF I bought Thursday.

May get out on Sunday for an hour or two up to Cranham on a Commencal Meta 5.5.2. (note to self; get wife drunk Saturday night so she lies in all day)

I started riding to work when my wife got pregnant 2 years ago . I was 109kg then and couldnt make it up the 1 mile gentle slope straight up.

I am now 94kg and I do 20 miles up to and around my local trails no prob.

My ride is 4 miles each way but I take the long route these days 🙂

I would love to have been up there today in this weather 🙁 Did go up Thursday night after work for a couple of hours though. Its only my Second Midnight ride and it was fantastic. tried out an improvised headtorch, too. Recommended

I've also experienced an anal tear from landing on the point of the saddle.

weirdly, despite all the nasty stuff on this thread, that bothers me most of all…

You will get some creaking if the skewer comes loose..and gear selection can become a bit iffy. Grab the rear brake and rock the bike; you will see the wheel moving for sure if you have a prob

That reminds me, I bought a Halo Heavy Duty hex skewer, I snapped it trying to get it tight enough to solve this problem! Hope you have better luck

oh dear. It is not even as if i am doing anything with the bike yet (im am 95 KG though and that excellent rear brake gets a serious hammering )

    Cheers for the info, mate.

For now I have bought a Crank Brothers Skewer thingy with a kind of 2 action clamp which is supposed to give a decent clampin pressure. I never really b***ocked up the old skewer as it is a job to get your fingers under it to undo it (and as you say, you shouldnt have to!)

So far I have had 3 rides

    1. Skewer came loose
    2. Bearing cone locknuts came loose
    3. Skewer came loose again.

do any other long swingarm bikes suffer from this/?

    Dancake
    Free Member

I assume the flex in the swingarm somehow causes it?

Not so sure. BOTH locknuts were loose (maybe the technician is the factory didnt have a cone spanner? ) However if the Swingarm is twisting, it could grab the locknuts and undo them?

Just cleaned my bike from last nights ride and guess what? The Wheel is nice and tight in the bearings, but the QR is no longer tight. This has never happened on my old NRS with cheapo wheels!

How much did your conversion set you back?

Someone was bound to mention Robert Rankin… Can't recommend against reading his stuff too highly, horrible… Not even funny, most of it.

I agree in Part, but I thought "Armageddon -the Musical" was brilliant; in a different league to what followed

It lush and dry up there isn't it

Sure is. We are going up after work Thursday and the weather is set to be nice so should be good.

There is something Surreal in riding accross Painswick Beacon at Midnight… Light choice is a DX Bicycle Light which is 1/2 as powerful as it should be and a chopped up Tesco torch stapped to my Helmet! Happy days

Bad luck on the shifts. (I have just got back and dont feel ready for the 2.30 -10.30 (knackered)

Had a really rewarding ride in the end

. I have had a real bee in my bonnent about jumping for months, now, and the drops into the 2 jumps in Pope's I though were the best way to excercise those demons.

Anywhoo, it didnt work and after a few bail outs, I was in my usual position of being so tense that a 6 incher would have sent me onto my face. This clearly wasnt working and I was ruining my experience as always.

So I made a decision. "Leave the jumping to someone else – Ill find another way down- every time" I tell you what, it was like a weight had been lifted. I now choose a route on the left which is a little drop in with a turn to the left, over a little drop that you can lift off and up onto the mound facing the jumps.

After this, I left the area and did the little track down to portway and with the new confidence on board, managed the tricky section for the first time (tricky for me; a rooty approach with a steep drop)

After this is was a bit of an explore, up to the racetrack bombhole (which we have started to do a little lift into )to the shrine trail (got to be the best time for me yet) and back to the wall. (Ok I messed that up- too fast into the second drop and couldnt take my eyes off the tree- which is magnetic) It was then across the beacon (where we got told off for talking by some golfers) to home.

A brilliant day, all because I finally decided to enjoy what I can do and leave what I cant do (at least for a while)

bloody hell what a long post

I had an RP2 on my NRS and the PP setting was just right to give a bit of give while removing the bob for climbs.

Conversely, I leave the setting on open on my Meta as it works fine

Cool. We usually drive the cars up to the top car park up the lane by the Royal William and start from there (Although I may be riding up if Mrs Dancake has the car! )

If I know what time we are starting ill give a post to say when

Just different. Cranham is so good..I just want to learn the trails and get good at them. I like to go to Standish for a change occasionally.

I wouldnt mind making a few hours of it. Do cranham and painswick, through edge to Standish and then home.

    Haresfiled dog walk

I dont know If you can see this but this is a map of a dog walk. It starts on the bottom track to the quarry and back up to the top track.

Absolutely no idea what you mean there.

Coming from the Whiteshill side (turn off at the Sharp cormer) the Car park is a gravelly affair on the left . Just by the entrance on the left is a step down into the forest.

There are 3 paths, Top, Middle and Bottom. The top is quite flat and joins the middle one further on But they all eventually converge at the Quarry end where there are some bits and bobs to play on (both at High and Low level)

Branching off from the main paths are one or two singletracks and a couple of downhills. I recently found the one mentioned earlier which is on the LHS of the top path. I have only done it slowly because I had the Dogs with me

Only downside is the area is quite popular with Dog walkers (me included) so Care must be taken on the main paths.

I have only been doing this less than a year but I cant believe I havnt been to the forest yet (im In Glos)

Will get a first look at the Enduro at the end of the Month.

Ill be popping up Thurs morning before work … Determined to drop in and Jump this time. (rather than drop in and BRAKE)

Been doing Standish Woods a bit lately, too. Theres a few bits and bobs there which are fun – give it a go if you havnt tried it. There is a play area at the Small car park end which is good too

Start at Haresfield Beacon Car Park. Take the Top path and look left; there is a neat little singletrack that runs adjacent to the Field and you can follow it to the quarry where the Jumps/ drops are. Have an explore; there is wicked drop in to table top (which I wont go near yet)

Hi, I posted on another thread, but my Experience so far with the DX "Bycycle light" kit is that

    1. My high setting is just about the same brightness as my Mate's medium

    2. The battery pack takes on water well and when you come to charge it it wont because the little circuit board under the heatshrink is wet and shorted

    3. The build quality is NASTY Nasty drilling, Nasty soldering, bits of swarf in the light etc etc etc.

so I have swapped batteries and my light is still dimmer than my mate's. I figured that the LED or the Driver is to blame so I have bought another driver (8.4v input, 2800ma ) which is close enough (it also gets rid of the switch /flasher etc and was only 4 dollars) Ill let you know how it goes. will reassemble with better heat sinkage than was supplied if poss!

why didnt i send it back? no idea…
