I run dual ply minions all nice and soft soft and squidgy – never get punctures with these . They would look a bit odd on your CX bike though…

Oh no! i just read this

I was intrigued before and I fancied an Alfine instead.. Now I want to SS again. Do I do it on my Work bike / occasional offorad 456 or go for it on my Main Off roader?

Is 32/ 16 a good starting point for a fatty? was probably going to go for the tension seeker route…Is 140mm forks ott for ss?

LOL at some of the self-rightious people on here

Trouble is, for all the good fast SAFE drivers there are there are an awful lot of bad ones .(a particular individual local to me who drives around in a kit car like a proper C**T in a built-up area springs to mind- and he is old enough to know better )

When you get older and you are aware of you and your loved ones mortality, it is easy to tar everyone who drives briskly with the same brush Im afraid. Im not suggesting for a moment that it is true; its just how it seems.

I never usually get above 30mph unless on the motorway so an auto would be fine for me I guess. If I want to have fun I get out on my bike. If I was into doing track days etc, then sure, but I use the road for going from A to B

Had a month off here and still didnt want to go back.

Went back onto nights and it is the only time I have ever fallen asleep while someone was talking to me! My wife was still very sore from the Sunroof Birth and I was helping out as much as poss during the day.

No need to feed guilty – you still have to pay the mortgage.

NB . My Son took about 18 months and a lot of screaming to get the whole sleeping thing right . Sorted now though since about Xmas time

Love the chance to show off this blog the bushes. Are plain with bearing surface adhered to them

There is just 20ml (or is it 30) on the air side I think.

I love my fox 32 but would never buy s/h unless the vendor doesn't mind you stripling them. Learnt my lesson after biting a pair with a ruined air-side stantion

why do you lift the seals? whip the lowers off – far easier to check everything is ok.

You are quite right of course, but I am sure everything is ok. Just want to make sure no dirt is collecting above the foam rings and it takes 5 minutes. Im quite anal and I would demand new oil every time the lowers are off 🙂 (and im a tigh arse)

TBH I am stopping the seal lifting after the enduros are fitted. Probably do an oil/ seal change at the end of winter for as long as i have the forks

I have lifted the seals 3 times in 6 months to clean under them. Not yet found any dirt and the foam rings have been nice and juicy each time. Trouble is there are a few nicks in the paint on the lowers from levering them out.

I have actually just bought some enduro seals yesterday as I have a bit of oil being drawn up onto the RH stantions so A full oil change etc wll be neccesary

The listing looked fine – am I supposed to get the life story from the seller in advance just in case I win the auction?

Im not sure you understand how auctions work…

    Dancake
    Free Member

Er, if I win, then I part with the readies asap . . . and I expect my buyers to do the same. If I have any doubts, then I don't bid.

exactly. You won the bike so pay up. Thats how it works. No one forced you to bid

    Dancake

hang on isnt it the other way around?

Well no, not really. You look at feedback before you bid but there was zero. So if you win you then suss out the seller before parting with the readies – what else would you do?

    YOU DONT BID.

    Dancake

You win the item, then you contact the seller and suss him out

hang on isnt it the other way around?

edit. This is starting to sound like a wind-up

There will be others out there. Would have gone to see it myself and if viewing wasnt an option would have walked away. Dont want to sound brutal but if you arnt prepared to complete the deal you should never had bid.

Fortnightly Wheelie bin Collection here (with closed lid policy and no extra bags allowed)

Recycling gets collected once/ week and we have brown bins for food waste that gets collected weekly.

3 cats, 2 dogs, 1 toddler still in nappies and 2 adults and we manage ok (but could do better)

Carboard gets taken to the Supermarket every time we go shopping. This is where it could be made easier; it is easy to understand that families without cars may not bother. In fact we had a problem in some area of the city where residents were not recycling and the rubbish was building up and up (ie not being taken away because of the rules) There was a rat problem etc and it got in the paper

The pink one is just stupid, but the Black/ white one has potential. (not liking the tyres or the rims. (or the Skull) )

    (or the grips)
    (or the seatclamp)

    but frame works…..?

edit.lol The rims are fine. I was blinded by the tyres

There is no better time than now to learn!; after all you can always get the LBS to true it up if it all goes wrong. (Might need to remove another spoke to get a measurement (is it inside of bend to end of thread? I would have to look it up : )

Good luck and hope the leg heals

    2 x 140mm 456s

Cheapo Banger 456 for work (And rides out straight from work). 8 speed, AM2 forks, rusty, heavy

Posher 456 for when I dont have to leave it anywhere . Foxes, (Maybe Alfine soon) lighter, new frame 🙂

    Dancake

On my Banger, I hooked up a new Shadow rear mech to a new cassette/ new 36T chainring + chain with new cable inners/ outers and it made a world of difference. (like new performance even though its 8 speed with alvio shifters.) Didnt cost too much. (Or instead of replacing chainring, Deore HT2 cranset 50 quid from Merlin)

Im actally converted to Shimano, after a sticky new X9 rear mech, a horrible Truvative BB. I dont like the long throw on the x7 front mech shifter either

Edid. I had never heard of Alfine until a few days ago…no I have to have one

I like it. I guess carbon bikes are supposed to be whippet-like and graceful. The 456 carbon looks 'ard as funk .

    Needs some teeth painted on

I rode to school until the age of 17 (on a racer and I spent as little time on the bike as possible )Got into a car for the next 15 years.

Fast-forward those 15 years to a fat, seriously unfit me who bought a "Land rover Corazon" to get to work on. After all that time, it was hard work, I can tell you

I was invited out with a few guys from work to go out on the local trails a few months later, and although I broke the bike, I had an ACE time and I have been upgrading (and downgrading) since.

I dont have this wealth of experience to fall back on so a bit of Skills tuition is perfect for me…

Cool. A plan is hatched. Wont bother with gunk, but I use dual ply minions which seem pretty puncture resistant at the mo….

I am a lardy arse too, so Ill take your advice…

Ratio wise I will go for a 1:1 low gear to start off with if it is permissable.

Bloody hell. It has gone from a silly idea to a very serious one. Such is usually the case when my Son is amusing himself, my wife is at work and my bike is as clean as it is going to be.Last time this happened I ordered 2 sets of flat pedals and some shoes…

If I run a rear tensioner, will I need some kind of guide on the front to stop the chain falling off when it gets rough?

    Dancake

    sold

Seriously, though. 1×9 may be fine for my do-it-all bike.

Sod it you dont know until you try. Will have to run a tensioner initially though

My mate does that thing when riding when he holds one nostril and fires a muscous bomb out of the other. Thats pretty nasty too…
