Same as that. Wouldnt get into the habit of taking the caliper off every five minutes though. Check your LBS . They should do it I would have thought to save you buying the kit yourself.

I fitted Exotic carbons to my Scandal 29er before I got Suss Forks. I got rid of them because I assumed I needed Suss Forks.

The truth was the Bike felt much faster and more fun on the rigids and the Suss forks brought nothing to the party for the riding I did.

As usual I had sold the forks before they had a chance to gather dust so I didnt go back.

On a late night ride, saw a chap lying in a ditch off a deserted road. His bike was layed down and his lights were on. We asked if he was ok and he was insistant we let him be. On reflection, think he may have been being fellated

Over a period of a week, I must have spotted 4 car wheel nuts along various places on my regular ride to work. Never seen one since

Oh and the road outside my house was crawling with frogs once

Eating a Sandwich while sat on the bog didnt go down well. Honestly don’t know why.

Oh and standing at the kitchen door and weeing on the Patio at 7.00PM after an early start on the booze was frowned apon recently.

    What a great thread!

I have been off the bike for so long, save for a few “same old” local rides. Seeing all the different locations makes me want to go out and explore again .

got to get fit. Got to get out. Got to take pictures 🙂

Trouble is that all locals dont use this forum..

I met a couple of nice chaps up Haresfield once. They were volunteers who working all day to preserve a longbarrow that was being eroded by bikes riding over it. (I was about to .I didnt know what it was )

They had filled and sured up the trail with gravel and blocked the entrance and exit with big stumps and bracken.

I was happy to post on a couple of sites to try and keep people off it but all their work had been undone in less than a week which must really give us a bad name…

(For info the site is in standish woods at the start of the trail that goes down to the farm track)

Im Rambling a bit, but Not all riders read forums so it is going to be hard to offer a mass sensible approach?

    Didnt click thats all.

I dont get out nearly enough. Stole 90 minutes to have a pootle in the woods the other day and had a blast. No expectations of the ride and depressed about to tiny time window at the start and beaming at the end 🙂

Never had a bad ride solo. Sometimes riding partners can put pressure on you to do stuff you dont want to do and your ride is not so good…

I wouldnt know the difference between a £4400 bike and a £1000 quid bike if I rode it

    There. I’ve said it

I moved to Virgin as I could not get a very good broadband speed down the phone line (iplayer HD wouldnt work for example) Got better value package too

The virgin Interface is a bit clonky though but there is loads of content and you get 1 more tuner too to aid in recording clashes if you have them?

Just got 80 quid for my sky hd box too. bargain!

NB For the best TIVO experience you are going to need new hardware..bet there is a premium on this like getting the TVdrive HD was originally. Might be best to wait.

For “Drop” read “Slightly elevated step onto a not-very-steep downslope”

Its part of the Run in Standish woods (haresfield) that starts at the unmarked Longbarrow and goes down to the gravel road. The log drop is right near the bottom and I always go around it* I always go up to Haresfield if I have the dogs in tow and not much time..

There are a couple at the top quarry too ranging from the same to bigger stuff (3 or 4 footers)

*NB I used to go over this, but cant bring myself to do it since going OTB and grazing my Knee – it wasnt even there- it was in Nibley I did it )

**Bent my bars too- how did that happen?

***Went up there yesterday btw. Didnt do it

I like my 1×9 for simplicity but thinking of trying a 36-11 cassette as I am not strong enough to push 32-34 on the steeper stuff for any length of time. (fat panter)

I rarely use top even on a 1×9 unless on the road

Depends on what you ride i guess. In my case: Very little 🙁

Going to go to the local trails and try and grow the balls to do the tiny drop my son could probably do on his balance bike.

In your head you are thinking in feet. Think smaller

    Makes you want a 69er or a 36er

I run maxxis. Ardent 29er on front with Stans rim
Advantage on back with Ghetto tape setup

Both run with Sealant and have been problem free so far. I can run the fron as soft as I like. Like to keep the rear aired as I am a fat arse

edit. Not sure about mud performance ❓

Playing with son and shoe-horning Fox Van R coil shock into a Meta

May get to test-drive said shock with said son and his balance bike 🙂

    Dancake

You will notice a big difference on the meta going from 10mm qr to 12 bolt-do it

There is also quite a difference going 10mm bolt-on from 10mm QR

I found the Meta quite flexy with the QR tbh

Dancake – that’s some pretty crazy sounding frankenbike you got there… what is it ?

    Its A Commencal Meta.

Currently with a “Toughshock ” at the back (10mm too short and rebound does what it wants)

Up front are Manitou Drakes – 100mm 29er. About 20mm higher than standard with the 29er wheel.

Doesnt ride as bad as it sounds. Waiting for a proper length shock for the rear. (A fox Van R which might not fit..) which will bring the back up a bit. I never got on with the RP2 so it is gone

    Stem is too short too…

    Just a bit of fun

Taking the Dogs out with my Meta 69er.. round Standish/ haresfield

    Hopefully

    1. My Van R coil will turn up to replace the bouncy 20 quidder
    2. It will fit without too much frame abuse

I have 100 on the front and 160 on the back. Thats what happens when you put the wrong shock and 29er forks on a perfectly good 5 1/2″ frame…

Ok I have 120 on the back as the shock currently fitted is even wronger and the new one is in the post and probably wont fit

just want a proper coil shock for it..anyone got something 200mm ? (the one fitted was 20 quid new..but it sort of works ok)

You have to ask on a internet forum how to deal with this sort of situation??

I was going to ask the same question…

As an aside, I wouldnt fancy riding around with a light that will simply stop working if it takes a knock..we ride into trees doing this stuff you know 😉

Discounting the 40 quid work bike, I only ever have the one.

Currently experimenting with a 69er thus:

I flew into something a bit steep and rooty last month and I was down before I could say “wow that was a bit hairy”

Went down it next time with caution and brakes – rode into a tree. You can bet I was looking straight in front of my front wheel when I crashed because I was worried about the roots. I had already proved you could ride straight over them.

Doesnt have to be new. Havnt got one thats all

    Dancake

Dont [need] a coil shock. Just fancy one and right now I will fit something mega cheap to test the angles 🙂

Dont need a big front wheel to be fair 🙂

I like playing more than riding these days. A totally pointless parody of a bike that rides horribly may be right up my street. Ill keep you posted.

(if by some miracle it does work, ill buy a proper shock for it… )
(and get the frame welded… )

stan’s yellow tape is shyte & the biggest waste of money ever. isn’t it like £11 for a role?

probably right, but after spending 130 quid on rims/ valves I didnt want to take any chances…and it does work. (track pump plus dry non-ust tyres went up ok )

I have had 3 hardtails, a Single pivot FS, a Horst link FS and a 29er

Im not good enought to notice the difference TBH. As I get better the bike gets better. If I rode a 5 now, I would think it was ace. If I rode it 2 years ago and replaced it, I would think it was over rated?

    Dancake

Couldnt get it to go with a Track pump, but worked fine with a Compressor. (24″ tubes on a 29er with Standard Ardent Tyres )

Gone to stans rims+yellow tape now. They are ace

    Have Stans Flow 29er

Built up easily and have stayed true. Fitted non-tubeless Maxxis Ardent 2.4s with Yellow Tape/ Valve. (didnt bother with Rim Strips )

Inflated with a track pump with no issues and they have stayed up ever since. Ace!
