I like it. Next time, try it on one of these

Two things that have improved my riding

    1. Look ahead
    2. Pick a line and let go of the brakes. (but be aware when you will need to brake!)

if you do number 1, its easier to do number 2

You might see a bit that looks really sketchy, but as a matter of fact its a bumpy but straight route to the next corner (looking ahead will tell you this). Trust your bike will make it and it probably will

As for corners do all your braking early, relax and look where you want your bike to end up. As you improve, you can brake later and a bit less before going into the corner. I find a deliberate head movement that looks as far out of the corner as possible helps the bike point where it needs to go.

My Mate’s bike got put on ebay 1 week after it was nicked.

Police told him “You have to bid and win, and we will go in your place”

He did this and the smackhead delivery girl got arrested. Case was dropped later on . Bike got nicked again 2 months later. . (Have you bought a Caad 8 with a dented top tube recently? )

So thats an orbit, a Caad 8, a scott spark and a Specialized Epic that has gone. probably to the same criminals who cant be done for it.

like Dancake’s idea of you doing the experiments and letting us all know afterwards that you didn’t die

joking aside, its fun to play around with MTB setups and generally different things work. I guess generally you end up sticking a tube in when you have a muddy burp and try again.

but there are no lorries to run over you or 50mph gravel rash injuries on a mountain bike. I think it would be very brave to experiment in this manner on the road.

Why not answer your own question then? Get down B and q and buy some tape. (or do you prefer it for everyone else to hurt themselves trying? )

    Be a pioneer

I used a few turns of electrical tape last time as I had run out of Stans tape . Seemed to seal the spoke holes fine. (Problem I had was with Nevegals taking ages to seal the bead) I cant say how long it would last as I went back to tubes.

Why not give it a go?. As long as you dont have a catastrophic burp, you should be able to save your sealant if it doesnt work?

What I will say about Stans tape is that I have done 4 wheels and never had a problem. (My Ardent non ust Went up dry and stayed up on Stans Rims) After adding sealant and airing up, they were never revisited. This is an endorsement not of just the tape, but the Stans rims, olympic valves and the Maxxis tyres. Adding 12 quid to a 200 quids worth of rims and tyres didnt seem to be an issue?

edit. Cant speak for road rims – I would let someone else do the research 🙂

You could tap it around with a centre punch?
Even tapping the top with a normal punch can free the threads up and can deform the top enough to gain some purchase on the Torx bit.

I have used side cutters too. (Pinch the head between the rounded off bit and the edge. (shock the head first)

What if you are, like , the biggest bailer in the universe??. I like the twisty stuff, but anything remotely resembling a jump scares the bejesus out of me…

Ride up to the first one and change your mind at the last minute. Topple off sideways. (Funnier if clipped in)

That is the first time in a long time I have stared at a picture for ages, not sure what to think…

For the record, I think the overall effect is awesome..maybe nit-picking about some of the technicalities is missing the point? Look forward to
    some moving pictures 🙂

I have only been doing this lark a few years, so as I get better, I think the bike is better. Just a few days ago, in exactly the right blend of mud I found my low-spec-second-time-around Meta55 drifting around all over the place and giving me my biggest grin yet.

Got a pair of Nevegals and some stans valves. Never tried kenda before…

edit. Looks like it would have been cheaper on wiggle. I did need some new tyres though so its not all bad.

As long as people are safe and enjoying themselves, who gives a carp what they are wearing/carrying.

    best answer!

I had to laugh at the other thread. there was some comment along the lines of “Their backpacks and expensive bikes didnt make them any better” . Its the old argument that you need some kind of MTB cycling proficiancy test before you are allowed to upgrade from a carerra..

Im in the “backpack” camp. Not a giant rucksack but something that holds a bladder, a multitool, my phone, my keys and my snack. (small size camelback) hate the feel of guff rattling around in my pockets.

I moved to virgin to sky and back to virgin. Sky TV was ace, but internet crap in my area (2-3 meg)

virgin- 2 failed boxes in 6 months , less HD content but 20meg internet. VOD good though.

MY fault with customer service was proving that my clearly goosed box needed replacing. requested the new samsung box but didnt get it 🙁

if it wasnt for the internet, I would dump virgin mind you

I am sure both have merits. I prefer flats due to my low-speed accident rate…Also I like to hang a safety leg out. fine with SPDs if you can clip back in which I often couldnt.

takes a bit of getting used to. I was amazed how much I was relying on being clipped in to stay connected with the bike – especially when going over crests into bombholes etc!

I’m in love with Jon Knight from NKOTB…

    Quite right too!

EDIT: Hang on, that’s not right, Jordan was the one every fancied, not his brother…

EDIT EDIT: And Jon was the gay one, she was proper out of luck there. Unless you broke up with a fella.

No, she was a lady..I forget most things about her, except the flat she lived in always smelt of cooking fat.

Years later, I talked about this with my wife. Turns out, they were in the same year at school and my wife used to call her “Fish eyes”. they hated each other

Buy something because you like how it looks and not how it rides. Sell at a loss and get a 456 because someone once said it was a “hardcore hartail” and you thought that sounded cool. Then a 29er ‘cos they look cool . Its like drugs. nove on to a 69er because the 29er wasnt stupid enough. Realise you didnt actually mind the FS that much..in fact it was the best bike you ever had. replace it, but with a much lower spec. Enjoy riding again. Dont cry over the hundreds and hundred of lost pounds

I always justify buying stuff by selling stuff.

    Taking today for example

Sold: 29er Forks and Wheel 125
    Won 26er Forks and wheel(s) 175

Another 50 quid gone. It is rarely the other way.

If I have a Stubborn new tyre on Ghetto, I usually have a quick trip to the garage to get it started. Thereafter, it will go up with the track pump.

With my stans Flow, I have always got Non UST to go up first time with the track pump myself
