Enjoying the Sun with the little ‘un today and the dogs (and the Wife)

Dog ride Tomorrow AM before it gets too hot and then (if I am allowed**) back out for a proper local ride without the hounds.

    **Very unlikely

I floated about on my 6″ overbike today and had a hoot.

I got my teeth and eyes shaken out on my rigid yesterday and also had a hoot

Had exotic 29er carbons and presently have 440 atc 26″ ers.

    Both great for me.

I like bike in all shapes and sizes and things like gravity droppers and tubeless give me a semi.

But 12V pressure washers that you take with you?

I absolutely blame STW for the cash I have wasted on bike folly.

I should have bought one the right size and Stuck with it first up. After 3 years I think I have stopped. I have a FS that I like and Rigid that is Practical.

The SS, 29er, 69er, perfectly-good-full-suss-that-I-thought-wasnt-good-enough, the 2 456’s etc etc have all gone

I dont jump, I dont race, I just like to ride. I wasted most of last summer fettling and getting unfit. Now I am riding again

I love my newly – built rigid! Did a little climb Tuesday that I never completed on my heavy FS and carried on in that vein for the rest of the ride .The trails were ace and it was fun all round.

On a more rooty, rocky trail the previous ride I couldnt see, I thought my teeth were going to fall out and I wanted to cry…I would have banged my FS down there much faster and had a much bigger grin

Dribbled a little bit of tea with Nickf’s answer 🙂

why do they always have cable disc brakes. I have had one or two and they have always turned vile in the end…

    “I don’t need gears; I barely need a chain”….chortle!

I have a bike with suspension forks which, of course, is ace

This one is lighter, simpler ,goes to work and gets kicked around the bike sheds every day. It also goes out with the dogs.

Trouble is it is so [strike]easy[/strike] effortless to ride I have decided to ride it on the bumpy stuff and want more! Its a different thing.

    Stay loose.

soon tensed up when I was no longer pointing where I was 100ms earlier and now I was going straight for a tree. Total hoot! lots of swearing

I like doubles. On my FS, with a short chain and short mech it is all nicely neat and tucked in. (clearance front and back) (32/22) and is all ratios Ill ever need round here. 3 rings wouldnt work as well on this one IMO

I needed rings for my hack bike, so I run 39/26 with a longer mech which is fine for the road to work and works fine for the occasional off road it does. (it was cheaper to buy 2 rings than 3! I dont want for more gears on the road and I can still go up. Couldnt care less how many rings I run on this one 🙂

I did this years ago with cable. Was a Video input card and used the mic on the sound card .Even Had an IR blaster so the PC could change channels on the box (infra red transmitter taped to the box)

Software worked ok, but quality a bit naff.

Used a Digital Terrestrial card later on Vista which was much much better. Ok you dont get a lot of cable channels, but quality and performance good.

NB Does yor virgin box not record and have TVOD etc?

I made a mount that looked a lot like anotherdeadhero’s post.

Took a few goes to get the angles right but it worked like a charm in the end.

I personally didn’t “need” a disc brake but I I hate those ‘orrible v brake things myself. – You can get a brand new bikehut hydraulic disc brake and disc from Halfords for 30 quid now and you will probably never use it enough to touch it again (I have one of these)

*good time to reserve online and take advantyage of a 3 for 2 🙂

95KG 35 rear and around 28 front on fat tyres. ran tubeless 29er tyres lower than that ( I like a squidgy front if the sidewalls are strong enough)

If I am doing any miles, the 2.0’s go on and its 45/35

    ACE!

    proper burly looking 456 carbon.

I would loose the big ring though. Personal pref but don’t see the point in them. You can shorten the chain more then, too

Just received an avid brake line olive in one of those A4 expandable boxes.

In another identical box was a chainring.
From a totally selfish point of view, I was peeved ‘cos I had to go to the the PO to pick them up. Are they using recycled card? I will recycle, but no everyone does. Waste of card…

I went to SPDS almost immediately when I started playing this game a few years ago. Even with practice, I was crap with spds (low speed topples/ cant get going again if I stop on climbs etc etc)

Went to flats a few months ago and I was horrified at first. (aaarrrgg I have just gone over a lip and I am no longer in contact with the bike..! )

After a few rides though, I know they actually suit me well. I feel able to move around the bike more, and I can hang a “safety leg” out when sliding around corners knowing I wont struggle to clip in again!

Horses for courses, certainly. i wouldnt go back to SPDs.

Tried it in the shop and was told 3 for 2 doesnt include components so I had to walk away 🙄

Did it online and got a mech for free. (reserve and collect) YAY

    Made a start today.

Bits are thrown together (like the front brake which it turns out when opening the box to be a rear. 30 quid bikhut job. Night be a tektro auriga. )

    Had a quick ride.

Bars look odd, but really comfy
    2 speed seems viable

got a bit of chain slip but will reserve judgement until I have new rings/ sprocket . (Gearing is a bit low for the road)

Until very recently, I had a very impressive pair of sideburns (hung over from a beard experiment)

Just a few days ago, my Boss shouted BUGGER’S GRIPS at me.

    I shaved them off

The kona is magnolia. there will be pictures. think it is a 2005

Not SS specific. Got the tensioner. Will have a play and update. I need a tensioner anyway for another project so no big loss if it doesnt work!

Gary if I had that fatbike, I would deffo put those mudguards on it.

    I want one

That said, my own Bikes dont have mudguards ‘cos I cant be bothered to fit them . If they were already on, I wouldnt be bothered to take ’em off.

Cheers guys. Have to say the hack bike has balooned.

Presently it is a Kona Blast with steel forks (that are waaay too short) SS’d horribly with serac XC tyres at about 75psi. It was just for work. I have a Meta for the bumpy stuff.

    ….

So I though…Carbon Forks. Going to need a front brake. (may as well make it a hydro ). Hydro rim brake for the back? Yea why not. Gears? Sure. Fancy some mary bars>ok. That frame will have to go…and those TYRES?!!

The best tensioner I used was an old mech pulled right forward. looked gash but never had a slip.

On ones jobby was ok if the chain was almost right , but change ratios and it would often slip , usually resulting in chest/ stem interface on steep climbs.

Would like to try the old Alfine type tensioner

cheers guys for the offers. Its one of those obsessions that grows or fades; I am not sure which way it will go yet 🙂

I do know someone who had a tandem. His wife wouldnt get on it so he ditched the idea. Note sure if he still has the frame though; he deffo kept the bits and built them into a 456

I am genuinely interested and fascinated by these tandems…what are the options when selecting frames/ components. ? Is there a resource to browse, get drunk and then buy?

    edit. how much?

    ventana looks ace though
