Saw Coldplay in Glasto 2005. Opened with Politic, I think. Big big sound – really ace. Had the hairs stand on end a few times. Watched for a bit last night however, but felt a bit uninspired. (bored?)

Saw stereophonics that year too – utter Crap. Faithless were brilliant

Cant jump or drop. TTfs have me slamming on the brakes like it is the end of the world

When it is dry and open I get scared and cant keep up with my mates

I am having the most fun in this weather when it is twisty and Slidy. Love the mud, and I feel faster

edit. Oh yes fat and unfit too. Not surprising probably ride once/ month

wash every ride – I like getting on a clean bike each sunday
Some of us ride more than once a week………….
Winter I hose it down after every ride and lube the chain, but in summer it hardly ever gets
Glad you find that hilarious – I’d love to ride in the week, but work and family come first, hopefully When the kids are older that will change!

you get to ride on a sunday?! lucky bugger 8)

When I bought a new bike, washed it every ride (licked it clean, spent ages on it- 6 months later when I stripped it for a warranty claim, I was shocked at the state of the bearings. No HP hose was used here either. Dont bother now, unless it is for STW photos. (chain etc get done but thats a given)

Jiffy bag? Everything I have had in the last 6 months has been in an enormous box (even a 2 quid HT2 screw)

Now gone over with the autosol. Wasnt going to do this at first, but did a little test and sort of carried on

Came out so well, I regret not spending more time flattening the frame (was originally going for the rough raw look

nb getting a shine was no effort at all and took no time. Do it before you build the bike up though, kids

Fresh back from holiday so it is thread resurrection time 🙂

    Any updates? Anyone finished?

I am going the Wet/ dry – steel wool look. I have saved the polishing for small parts like the linkages/ cranks / dropouts maybe as it takes a while and I cant be bothered

next question is decals.Shall I or not?

    Dancake

my frame is all done (ish) so I decided to spruce up some linkages. (basically remove anodising in drain cleaner then get polishing kit out)

got bored in the end so its a real half-job (one sided) . with time it could be nice though…

I bought one (different seller but same thing/ price)

Worked a treat on my Juicy 3. Just followed the instructions

Update: frame looks sketchy as hell,I can’t get into the nooks and crannies at all, and I don’t know what to do now.

cheer yourself up. Get yourself some wet and dry / scotchbrite and set to work on a bit you think looks bad. Make it look all nice and you will know it is worth it.

NB I borrowed a very hard triangular scraper for the recessed parts . Looks awful at first but flattens out ok.

    update?

    my bits/ bobs are 75% roughed….

I wasn’t going to polish, but if it flattens well, I might.

Well it is coming on, and

Ah, you’re now regretting ever starting on such folly…

    is so, so true.

right now the swingarm is almost prepped. Lots of beer and scraping the fiddly bits ahead.

Tested a small area with increasing grades of wet/dry and I think it will turn out ok.

42:13.- parts bin build…short 5 mile blast to work can be fast or easy depending on your mood. – no real hills to speak of
Chuck it in the bike shed, dont worry if it gets kicked about, ride home, repeat.

Old Kona Blast from back of the shed. Stripped and fitted carbon forks/ mary bars etc from the parts bin .Used a 1/2 link to get good tension with 42/13 . Filed dropous to complete. Built up surprisingly light and cost virtually nowt to build (ok the individual bits have cost cash in the past but you get the idea )

Sorry, but no wonder it ended in tears

eh? Light brush sorted the kona lovely – not a mark.(yes it was alloy) Tried it on this one- did make a mark: Same brush, same drill, different Alloy- I dunno. Anyway Stopped using it and rubbed it back flat

ended in tears>? Hasnt even started 🙂

The tears will come when I get bored of the raw finish and make a horrible gash job painting it

Looks like I have a few hours of scraping/ re-applying ahead. Top layer shifts easily but layers under that are only softened.

Going to soak longer this time, and wrap in a bin liner so it doesnt dry out quickly.

different bike, different experience. Old kona, paint fell off and whizzy wire brush did the rest.

Meta frame. Paint tough and alloy soft enough that the wire wheel leaves deep scratches in the surface 😯

There is a new yellow one too.

Times are slightly different so it might be ok. Apply, 5 to 10 mins then reapply , wait 40 mins.

Orig nitromors blistered almost immidiately but this one hasnt really gone yet. Of course the coat on my Meta frame might be tough..am In the “wait 40 mins” phase right now

Bottle of good malt and case of beer for our trouble from a weeping owner (man). Nice

and you would get the same from me. Before my Son was born 3 years ago, the dogs were everything to us..They still are but the perspective has shifted.

There is no need to get offended by the apparent “heartless” responses. I have a good mate who cannot comprehend the whole love for animals thing. To him they are food or they do a job – nothing else . If you dont feel it you dont feel it I guess. Cruelty is different, but indeifference is normal, innit?

I run 22-32 on one and 26-38 on the other both without bashes without a problem. (I am not that ‘ard though)

NB The 38 is a blackspire single ring on an 8 speed setup with no ramps but shifts just fine that way. I like the look of a flat chainring compared to a pressed one, Will get a flat 36T for the other one next

The manitou is a slightly larger OD though . Not an issue unless your shock is shoehorned in. On my meta it was the difference between kissing the downtube and not!

There are some “crack detection” products which work well. (3 cans of cleaner, penetrating dye and activator) tiny cracks magically turn red before your eyes..

probably more expensive than the booze though

edit: the one i have used at work is “flawfinder” 57 quid 😯 http://www.my-tool-shed.co.uk/p16123/Rocol_Flawfinder_System_Kit_63181/product_info.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=allprods

well, inspired by this thread, I resurrected an old Kona Blast.

Bike was “free” as most of the bits were from the Shed. Apart from a few bits like cables and headset, its all STW sponsored from past and present too…

I got bored rubbing the paint off in the end so it is a bit “rat” . perfect for short 4 mile work run though.

In my case, I used some ronseal stuff which you leave for plus 6 hrs. It is a tenner though and I used half of it so not recommended. I had some for stripping doors already

the smaller number (ie your 68 ) is bike dependent
the bigger number ie 113 depends on what model your crank is.

Think sheldon brown has a spreadsheet.

Our internet usage policy suggests that any non work related surfing is not permitted, including sending personal emails. This isnt enforced, of course but we do get emails circulated from time to time to remind us that you can be disciplined for doing it.

and regarding posing what you had for lunch – suggest twitter (you can link it to facebook)

facebook, twitter, STW etc etc. All sites devoted to wasting mindless hours on the internet. and I do them all
