Oh Go on then here’s another one from more affluent times

Single Speed 456 by Dancake2010, on Flickr

The 140mm fork and 2.5 minions probably didnt make sense but it was awfully good. You will hear it time and again but because you are keeping momentum up, you are forced into starting sections faster and getting air when you previously had not etc etc. Sounds like a cliche but true

I dont run SS now of course – it was a fad

I bet there are a lot of bikes on here that get that

I ran a simple Dual speed for a while. Bigger ring to commute to work and flat and a smaller ring for lazy offroad

For the record, the Alfine Dérailleur type tensioner was the best I found for converted SS, even if it looses some of the elegance. The “push down”
type tensioners were ok but if you were in between chain lengths (ie a little long), I would get the odd slip when really pushing

MY cat used to regulary torture birds and leave me to finish the job.

squash-head-under-the-heel was the quickest and easiest way for me. (Crunch-FLAPFLAPFLAP-done)

(tried the neck thing initially, but the head does come off and its not nice)

Like the look of that Early rider wonder how heavy it is?

My son had a pedal bike for his 3rd Bday but is weighs a TON. (honestly, it’s mental) He took to it straight away due to the balance bike he had previously …

Trouble is, because the balance bike is super-light, he always wants to take that out instead.

I’m surrounded by noise. I like to ride to get away from it all – not stick it in my ear.

and anyway you need to be able to hear the monsters.

Ilfracome has a special place in my heart..

I went on holiday once (Woolacombe )and forgot all my underpants. I found a shop in Ilfracome that was still full of stock fresh out the 70’s, including the wonderful new pants I procured therin.

It was about 1995

Spare a thought for the 4,375 people who died on the MV Doña Paz In 1987. Not much talk about that.

just read up on that. how terrible 😯

Im sure a local can point you to all the good stuff, but as a visitor sticking to the obvious trails, I found it a bit uninspiring for a planned day out

edit. The new leigh woods stuff was ace, mind. Someone pointed us to “Picnic bench trail” which was cool as well

First ride of the year. (short one with the dog)

Gave it all up at xmas and sold up. By the end of March I was begging for cheap bits to build something to ride.

Thanks to great STW classified bargains, a bit of luck and the awesome generosity of friends, I am riding again. Ace

Another 456 by Dancake2010, on Flickr

the cable disc brakes worked fine, the rejuvinated old forks were smashing, the frame fits brilliantly (my first 16″ 456 ), the wheels stayed straight, and the bars I extended at work stayed in 1 piece.

Think the Genesis Altitude is similar. Still flexes of course but I didnt have too much trouble with mine with 17 Stone and a big leg on the crank

It was lush as well. I am an idiot for selling it

maybe we should drive accordingly rather than moan about what they do.

So is this your fix. Some training 😯

there will always be bad or distracted drivers, or those who simply make bad decisions. People need protecting from themselves. If that means babysitting drivers so be it.

56mph isnt it? Anyway the reason they overtake is if the lift off the loud pedal to slow behind something, they will loose lots of speed and spend a lot of time and effort waggling gear sticks to get back up to speed. Its not like in a car where you can lift off and then accelerate away again.

its not lots of speed though. Its a tiny difference that means the manoever takes hundereds of hundreds of yards to excecute. 1 person’s actions affects scores behind

If speed restriced vehicles were banned from the middle lane, maybe there would be incentive to sort the speed limiters out?

60mph lorries taking up two lanes is a menace and needs to be addressed. I asked a lorry driver about this once. If his lorry is .1mph faster than the one in front, he would overtake – however long it took. (something about cost of fuel I didnt really understand)

In bad conditions, I am sure a 10-20mph closing speed on a lorry can be lethal – especially if that vehicle sticks its brakes on suddenly.

A really tragic accident.

My pseudo Magicshine died in the rain on Friday night – what models are you guys running and where from, think I’ll be needing to go shopping soon

sure it isnt the battery? There was a rectangular circuit board on mine (the under/ overvoltage thingy) that was soaked under the heat shrink.

Removed the heatshrink on the battery pack, dried out and resealed and it came back to life. If the protector malfunctions, there will be no output to your light unit.
