The Peak District is named from the original Anglo Saxon tribe (The Pecsaetan tribe, or Peaklanders )that set up shop in the area around 600 AD, and renamed most of the Roman placenames.

    So it’s not plural.

It’s also worth pointing out that it’s correctly shortened to “The Peak” and not “Peaks”…. 😀

It looks like the axle that runs through the hub (not the thru-axle which is removable – and is sticking out from the wheel) has snapped, and this runs into the freehub

So it should look like this with the freehub removed…

Seriously, how many people would actually go as far as dismantling their hub to check their axle? To my mind it’s the part I’d least expect to snap on me.

Can someone explain how a bit (OK a lot) of mud could snap a 10 or 12mm tube with a 2.5mm wall thickness with an assortment of bearings, seals and spacer rings separating it from the outside world, as I’m at a loss to see how that’s possible….

It seems to me to be a manufacturers issue rather than user neglect.

    😳 Yeah… Sorry about that….

The folk doing the work had said they were “doing” the track to the road, and I couldn’t hang around long enough to check what they were up to, so took them at their word of their intentions. Whilst it’s unsightly, at least the majority of the track remains untouched.

There are studies that suggest that blowing your nose forcibly could potentially be bad for you.

    Slim to non-existent.

Ignoring the fact that Talk talk are generally are a shower of shite, when they reset your profile, the line will go through a process of trying to figure out what is the optimum speed, and it can take a couple of days to eventually stabilise again. And make sure you don’t turn your router off when it’s doing this.

It’s also worth checking that your phone line is in a reasonable state too. Perform the BT line noise test as detailed here:

    http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Performing-a-Quiet-Line-Test

Your line could have synced to the slow speed because excessive noise as mine did, despite reporting a decent “Downstream” speed, it decided the profile should be pants. Using the Master socket allows you bypass “stuff” on your side of the phone socket (i.e. dodgy extensions etc.) so if you get the same result from the normal, and master socket, it could still be a problem with the BT end of things.

Interestingly (if that sort of thing floats your boat) the superstar F3 pads are available via eBay

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4PAIRS-Formula-R1The-One-RX-Mega-Disc-Brake-Pads-F3-/150433307339

And slightly cheaper than their website too…

    Not sintered… I am not a clever man…

    These are the sintered ones..

    Male cow excrement!

I was smacked as a child, and Stockholm syndrome aside, my parent’s were for the most part excellent, and apart from the shooting cats with crossbows, mugging old ladies and pulling wings off flies, I’m a useful contributor to society, and a reasonably well rounded individual.

My parents smacked me, as a tool to focus my attention. It wasn’t a beating, nor was it violence as someone else stated. It was a single open handed strike or two on my backside, and it was done at a time when I did not have the cognitive reasoning to process that what I was doing was wholly unreasonable, or downright dangerous. Occasionally it was just because I was being a little shit. I was never bruised, and I never felt unloved or abused.

I think a lot of times it was done out of panic e.g. when I’d run out onto the main road, or tried to pull a boiling kettle over myself and I don’t personally think that either of my parents actively chose to smack me, it was always more of an automatic, instinctive response.

To criticise parents for that sort of behaviour is just wrong.

After android 4.2, so long as you only use legitimate app stores (play/amazon etc.) There’s little need for an av.

You may find that the version of Android running on your Fire is now too old for many newer apps to run.

There are guides online on how to upgrade to 4.2, but I wouldn’t recommended trying this if you’re not happy and fully understanding of what you’re doing, and you’re happy you have the 1 GB, 1.2 GHz version post Sept 2012.

It requests the ability to have read access. This is very different from actually reading your messages. It does this for integration of SMS into the messaging portion of the Facebook app, Whatsapp has had the same security requirement for as long as I’ve used it and nobody has batted an eye….

If you’re running 4.3 and above, install appops and disable the permission if it worries you, or don’t use the app, or facebook, or the internet 😀

There’s something a bit funny going on with this. Looking at your video on youtube in chrome on my PC, the 480p setting is much clearer, and has more detail than the 1080p version. I’m not sure that the video has been uploaded at the higher resolution, and I wonder if youtube is just making a hash of increasing the resolution.

Screen grabs of the same frame below.

I’d say that the 480p video actually looks pretty good.

Assuming that your copy of Skyrim was originally bought on Steam (which it should have been) the link you want is:

After a couple of shandies on Friday night I spend the majority of Saturday chucking up in my toilet.

I now have a really bad sore throat, and feel like I’ve pulled a muscle in the back of my neck and can’t swallow properly. I’m still feeling a bit hungover too. I have come to the conclusion that at 33, I can’t drink like I used to when I was a student. 😕

Those forks have a 15mm axle, so make sure they fit your wheels before pulling the trigger.

I had similar marks on my u-turn revs. As the length markings were on top of the mark, I wasn’t worried about them being damage or wear. I didn’t have any problems with them in use at all.

Just guessing, but would this need a cross-over rather than patch cable to achieve this, and internet connection sharing enabled on the windows 8 laptop?

Whilst I don’t think it’s hugely OK, I also thing that it’s very very difficult to keep track of every pound out of the millions they get/invest etc.

Like someone else said, it’s not like they’re going to an arms dealer and buying a job lot of bullets and land mines, it’s a managed fund, and it’s arguably the fault of the firm doing the managing, which I very much doubt is anyone inside the Comic Relife charity.

I badly sprained my ankle 14 years ago, did the right things, but got the wrong advice from GPs etc. and finally feeling a bit of arse for demanding a referral to a consultant got it fixed (I hope!) back in August, and have just started riding my bike again, it’s fantastic!

From my experience, the important thing to do is make damned sure you do your phsyio. Get some theraband(s), get a wobble board, and get yourself down to a physio, and follow their instructions.

After 6-8 weeks of being well behaved, start doing stuff that could put your ankle at risk of another sprain, and keep an eye on things. If it goes again, get yourself down to your GP and get a referral to an orthopaedic consultant. Don’t take excuses like “It’s only a soft tissue injury” or “Some people have weak ankles”.Get an expert to have a look at it. My ankle didn’t present as being mechanically unstable as far as my GP was concerned and he managed to fob me off for years, but under investigation by the consultant, my ankle joint opened up by around 20 degrees on one particular test, and was most certainly unstable (normal opening is around 5 degrees).

Having googled, I can’t see any new Jucy 3s for sale. I think they stopped making them in 2010? The nearest is their replacement the Elixer 1 (inc rotors), at £70 rrp still vs £189 (ex rotors) for the XT.

A full set of 2013 Deore brakes will set you back £149 at full rrp, but at least they include rotors at that price. (Obviously they can can be picked up cheaper, but it’s more accurate to compare RRPs)

The deore’s are a very different brake from the SLX and higher models as they don’t feature the cam technology (Servowave?) and a friend had a devil of a job getting his deores to not rub on his discs, and you can’t use floating/icetech rotors without some judicious filing because of the calliper design.

    Would this do the job?
    Stans valve extenders

I’ve used a normal inner tube’s valve (with removable core) in the past (just cut off the inner tube and leave a little bit of the rubber at the bottom). Could you use something like this Inner tube if the core is removable?

    Information from Montane regarding eVent:

These problems in most cases are due to garments that have not been cleaned properly. We’ve spoken to eVENT UK and the guys in the lab in the states and they have recommended the following:
    1. pre treat any really dirty areas with neat biological washing liquid (not with built in conditioner), if stained then use a very soft brush to gently scrub the stains off.
    2. Close all fastenings and wash at 40 degrees C with liqid biological detergent. (They have carried out extensive testing and found that pure soap or cleaners such as Nikwax Tech Wash do not clean out the pores in the fabric effectively enough to remove all dirt and grease.)
    3. At the end of the cycle, give the garment an extra rinse to remove detergent residue.
If your garment is not overly dirty and you haven’t had to scrub it then this may be all that you need to do…please goto step 6.
    To reproof the garment:
    4. wash in Tech Wash to remove all detergent residue,
    5. wash in TX direct.
    6. Let the garment drip dry
    7. iron on 2dot setting to fully activate (or reactivate) the DWR.

Soap isn’t that great a cleaner for grease, and bodily oils.

Edit: And also the eVent site itself recomemnds the use of a detergent based cleaner http://eventfabrics.com/care/

“Biological” cleaners have enzymes that break down organic stains like fat and starch. “Non-biological” cleans use alternative chemicals to achieve the same thing. It’s nothing to do with bleaching agents. The thought is that some people are more sensitive to the enzymes in biological cleaners and have allergic reactions to them, but there’s actually little evidence to support this.

Certain fabrics (e.g. eVent) need to be cleaned with detergents to break up the grease that settles inside the waterproof membrane stopping it from being waterproof.

It’s a touch unfair comparing your £180 brakes vs your daughters £60 set (based on full RRP)

For the price, I’d hope they’d be easy to set up. My main issue with shimano brakes is the lack of serviceable parts and kits when they do go wrong.

The biological washing powder won’t be the cause of damage to the fabric, it only removes the durable water repellent finish.

If the fabric itself is being damaged by washing, I’d be looking to check whether the water is to hot, or the spin speed to high.

I’ve never really liked Potato ally, it feels to “point and go” and doesn’t require much thought, it’s more about getting sore bingo wings and hanging on till the bottom.

Fluffy kittens does make you think as you potter down it (at least on a hardtail) trying to pick the best line etc. I’m looking forward to trying it on my floppy bike once my ankle is fixed.

It looks like you should be able to remove it without downloading any further software, so I’d avoid doing that if possible.

Follow the guide on the dotfab page, just ignore the bits that involve using their recommended software tools.

As different shoe manufacturers use different lasts (The fake foot they mould the shoe around) so one manufacturers shoe can be a very different fit in the same apparent size.

For example, for the best fit I take:
    Scarpa Womens 41 (UK 7)
    Mammut/Raichle Mens 42 (UK8)
    Specialized 43 (UK 9)
    Next UK 10

A lot depends on what type of shoe you’re after, but if you plan to be in them for a long time, it’s almost certainly better if you can go to an actual shop and try them on first.

We’re not exactly close (Last thing I heard was the two of them were planning to divorce!), but having spoken to my dad at least 7 times in the past 7 weeks, I’d of thought it’s sort of a good thing to respond with when asked “Has anything exciting happened down your end?”

I think it’s much more of a case of how dare they “repair” a track on land they have no responsibility over, and the actual landowner was happy with the state of the track.

The track was at best 100 yards link that avoided a long detour on the road. It wasn’t exactly technical, loose or dangerous, so it’s entirely unnecessary work. The landowner is now rightly concerned it’ll become a through route for motor vehicles, as prior to this it didn’t look passable from the top unless you had a 4×4.

An update for those interested, after the initial Cellulitis diagnosis, the vet now things Ollie actually has cowpox.

    I won’t post a photo as they’re a bit gory.

I think this means in his spare time he’s planning on weaponising smallpox and has vaccinated himself in preparation.

He’s now sporting a cone of shame, and is not a happy kitty.

Just as an aside, mine have all gone online now too, and tried to use a printed off payslip as a form of ID with my bank, and with a letting agent, and neither accepted them, saying I could have easily modified them before printing them off myself, and only “officially printed” ones counted.

Seemed a load of rubbish to me.
