I’ve had 3 Ga’s in the past few years, all fine, and surprisingly refreshing, just like a good kip really.

I had a sedation for a cardiac ablation procedure and it was bloody horrible. Felt crap and hungover for hours after, but that could have been from having my heart seared….

I upgraded the monarch on my mega to an XFusion O2 RCX and am really pleased it. It’s a massive improvement, and totally transformed the bike.

Their UK customer service is top notch too!

Beaten to it by a stealthy edit!

The track down into Jaggers clough from the south has a drainage channel and steps to help divert the water from it, and on the way up towards hope cross, the ground isn’t particularly peaty, and clears water very quickly after rain. The same cannot be said for the peaty soil around broad clough. I’ve not been up myself yet, but the discussions I’ve had with folk that have, suggest that any drainage channels that are on the “repaired” section are minimal at best. If the water flow down the track was sufficient to erode and dislodge the bedrock, and the larger bits of loose rock in the trail, it’ll make fairly light work of some 2cm stones…

because they didn’t have a consultation What would you have said, “more drop offs please”?

No, I’d have asked that they consider a sypathetic repair to the trail, and make it usable for all users, including mountain bikers, horse riders, walkers and runners. All that loose crud is frankly dangerous.

    isn’t sympathetic
Actualy it’s a fairly standard technique for protecting old paths, burry them under a foot of something else to protect them from damage from modern trafic.

Filling in a trench with aggregate does not help blend it in with the local surroundings. The trench before, whilst not in great nick, at least looked like it belonged there…

not in keeping with the NT’s supposed reason for being.
Forever, for everyone? MTB’ers =/= everyone

    The NT’s general perpous is:

The National Trust shall be established for the purposes of
promoting the permanent preservation for the benefit of the nation of
lands and tenements (including buildings) of beauty or historic interest and as regards lands for the preservation of their natural aspect features and animal and plant life.

Preserving a track in it’s “natural aspect” goes along with the idea of a sympathetic restoration, not filling it in with 2 cm gravel.

The job they’ve had done is half arsed at best, sloppy, and certainly not a permanent solution. They’ve done a quick fix on the cheap, for reasons best known only to themselves, because they didn’t have a consultation on their plans. It isn’t sympathetic to the local environment, and certainly not in keeping with the NT’s supposed reason for being.

This isn’t sanitisation, this is just vandalism. The job that was done on the Royche, was sympathetic, and a demonstration of what’s possible to repair a well used track, and keeping everyone happy.

How high up does the “repair” to the clough go? All the way to Edale Cross, up as far as Stony Ford, or lower?

Get a humane mousetrap like this and bait that.

You should catch the furry blighter, then you can dispose of him however you see fit. Taking him/her into a field at least a mile away is the best bet.

Sorry, meant the ending for ME 3. The choices made through the game have no real impact on the final outcome, and the final cut scenes seem to be the same despite the different t endings you can have.

People like you stop people with a genuine need from seeking the help that will make them better.

Please leave this thread alone now. The only positive contribution you could possibly make is by not posting any more.

From my own experience, the problem seems to be that a lot of folk don’t actually accept that you are genuinely ill.

If you have a broken leg, there are generally outward signs that there’s something wrong, and the treatment seems straightfoward and understandable. Being sad, and withdrawing from the world, and not gaining joy from the things you used to like is hard for outside people to accept.

A lot of people see being depressed as a weakness, an inability to cope with life, and because there’s nothing obvious on the outside, a number of people don’t think it needs treatment and you just need to mtfu.

It’s fundamentally a lack of understanding, and ignorance on the matter.

Explaining to someone that you feel sad all the time doesn’t fully describe the feelings of emptiness, the darkness running right into the core of your being. Unless someone’s been there, they can’t understand.

Unhelpfully I think,, explaining to people it’s a chemical imbalance doesn’t necessarily make it sound as serious as it can potentially be.

Good luck to the OP, and believe in the fact that things will get better with the right help! All the best to you.

I’d argue that washing would actually increase the speed at which the membrane will delaminate, as one of the main contributors to this is repeated scrunching of the fabric, something that happens when it gets thrown around the drum of your machine.

It would be interesting to know how old the jacket actually is.

For the first link, the argument regarding taste falls down because birds lack the receptors for capsaicin (the stuff that makes chillies hot). Also, strictly speaking capsaicin doesn’t actually have a flavor anyway. To be fair Birds do have far fewer taste buds than most other species, but they are still there.

The second link is to 1905 letter saying more research should be done. So apart from being out of date, modern research shows the initial assumptions where wrong.

One of the earliest assumptions on birds sense of smell was made testing rotting meat on vultures, by hiding it in bushes. The idea being that the birds would find the carcass if they could smell it. They failed to realise that these vultures actually prefer their meat fresh, so ignored the pungent rotting stuff. They assumed because the birds ignored it, they couldn’t smell it.

Cheers, that’s what I wanted to hear! 200 miles seems like nothing! My superstar one on my other bike must be close to over a 1000 miles now, and still going strong. It’s a shame they don’t do a pick and mix setup :/

The two parks that offered to take the giraffe were both part of EAZA, and should have known better than to offer to take the animal in.

If the breeding program had deemed that this animals genes were well described in other specimines, then, by agreeing to be part of EAZA, they’d already agreed to adhere to the breeding program.

Hanging onto an animal for 25+ years, when it won’t benefit the species as a whole is a massive waste of resource for all involved. Something like 77% of captive giraffes are inbred to a greater or lesser degree, so euthanizing one animal to allow another, more genetically distinct one to be be born and raised will help dilute the future gene pool can only be of benefit to the captive breeding in the long run.

My understanding of this calf being kept alive for 18 months was to allow the mother to fulfil her natural care giving instincts, and reach a point where naturally the calf would be preparing to leave the herd anyway, to diminish stress caused to the other animals. That seems perfectly reasonable to me.

People’s objections are purely down to aesthetics, and the idea that a giraffe is somehow more “beautiful” and special than a cow or pig.

I’m running 2×9 on my mega.

I just took the big ring off the front of a standard deore chainset, and used some shorter bolts.

I’m using a 3x shifter, but set the limit screws on the front 3x mech so it won’t extend beyond the middle position.

I’m using a medium cage rear mech, and I’ve yet to have the chain skip off outwards.

Embarrassed the STW doesn’t allow links to the DM. It’d be understandable if it was for the Grauniad. The readers tend to wear sandals and socks (at the same time), be vegan and be complete A-holes.

As opposed to the closed minded, racist, homophobes that read the Mail? Whilst the guardian is the wet lettuce of news papers, at least it’s not full of bile and venom targeted at anyone who isn’t middle class white British. It is the epitome of gutter journalism and thrives on perpetuating fear and hatred of anything unfamiliar or unknown.

Can you just not upload the whole word file (it’ll have all the pictures already included in it) and just share it with one of the sites I suggested?

If you want to upload all the images separately, then if you have the files on your computer, Imgur is free, and allows you to drag and drop multiple files from explorer (assuming you’re using a PC), straight onto the web page . You don’t need to register, and you can get it to create an album for you.

Stick it on dropbox/google drive, and post the share link?

The forum needs pictures and videos to be hosted on a third party website anyway, so sticking the doc on one of the above isn’t very different.

I replaced the Monarch on mine with an Xfusion O2 RCX, and it’s solved all the problems I was having. It’s a cracking little shock!

Typically speaking, women’s feet are narrower for a given size, and have a lower instep height. They also have shorter ball to heel distance, but longer toes for the same size. They aren’t just scaled down versions of men’s feet.

I have size 8 feet which is pretty small for my 6ft 2″ height (You know what they say about small feet though… small shoes!). They’re very narrow too, and I find that men’s footwear rarely gives me a good fit and are quite “sloppy” around my foot and I have to really crank down the laces to get a secure fit. I actually prefer the fit of women’s specific approach shoes and hiking/mountaineering boots, but trying to find “manly” colours can be a challenge.

I really like the idea of the mudhugger, but in practise it seems to be next to useless on my Mega.

It fits easily enough, and even with cable runs underneath the seat stays, it wasn’t a hassle to get on. The problem is that the rear tyre extends another 3 to 4 inches beyond the end of the guard, so I still get absolutely covered in the finest brown stuff mother nature can provide.

It does manage to keep a lot of crud off the back of the shock and area where the swing link attaches to the seat tube, so I think it if were longer, it’d be much more effective at keeping my bum dry.

It’s a shame they don’t do a extra long version, as I’d be tempted to give that a go.

Above all else, the folk in MR (certainly from my experience) would much rather go out and help some poor unfortunate off the hill who felt they needed help whether they were being a bit of a wuss or not, than go up on a search for a body and have to bring that down.

Whenever we’ve been on call outs based around “I’ve not got a head torch” or “My GPS has run out of battery” whilst they’re frustrating, you get on with it, and are thankful the folk in question haven’t done something more daft. Hopefully they have learnt their lesson, and chuck a few quid our way. If nothing else, it’s a trip out on the hill, with good friends, doing something we all (for the most part!) enjoy.

Possibly, and it depends on how you define melt…

If you were to simply define melt as getting from a solid to liquid state then ff you were to heat it above 3780 Kelvin in a vacuum, really rather fast, you’d melt the carbon making up the cellulose. How you’d do this experimentally is anyone’s guess.

If you define melting (correctly) as the reversible process of going from a solid to a liquid, then no, wood doesn’t melt.

I had my bank account emptied to the tune of over a grand a few years ago thanks to someone cloning my card.

HSBC were actually quite good at giving me my money back, and it all came good.

The police were next to useless though. The scum bag had used my cloned card to pay for a rental deposit. Despite providing the name of the rental company, and them knowing the blokes address the police weren’t interested in chasing it up.

The player the OP mentions appears to be sending audio via the HDMI, and it’s bought back to the amp from the TV via a digital audio cable or the HDMI if the TV supports ARC (if I’m reading the manual correctly). So passing the HDMI through the box (which doesn’t support ARC) I mentioned will strip the audio down to just the L and R channels.

    dan1980

You could cobble something together using this:

Plug the Blu-ray player into this:
    HDMI in to Comp Out

and plug the above into the back of your SD TV with this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Component-YPbPr-Audio-Scart-Video/dp/B0060HOY5O

The downside of this is that you’ll loose the 5.1 sound, and have it converted to simple stereo coming out of your TV, which sort of defeats the point of having a 5.1 cinema system.

If you have a lot of blu-rays that you want to watch on your SD TV, then the best bet would be to get a cheap blu-ray player which has a component output and use the cable listed above to connect to your TV, but you’d need to check on the audio output of the player, to make sure it’ll pass through to the SCART cable (i.e. the player has L and R stereo RCA jacks) or has an optical out you can plug into a 5.1 audio receiver of some kind if you wanted surround sound.
