    An update:

It turns out, when using the ODB data for your MPG, it’s kind of important to put in the engine size in the software on your phone….. 😳

Now getting around 30-40, max 48 MPG with the correct numbers in. Topped up the tank after 200 miles, and calculated an average from the tank of 33 MPG, with a dirty air filter and dodgy ERG. Changed one, and cleaned the other, so we’ll see if that goes up.

I’ve bought a new air filter, at the suggestion of a friend, but beyond that, I’ve no idea where to look. He’s suggested cleaning the EGR too….

Can’t you just share the Google docs link to an appropriate spreadsheet?

I’d imagine wordpress has a plugin… There is a plugin to display it on WordPress too: https://wordpress.org/plugins/inline-google-spreadsheet-viewer/

If it p*sses anywhere else again, get some white vinegar to clean it up. It breaks down the stinky stuff.

Get yourself a Feliway Diffuser, it’ll help calm the cat.

It helped calm down my rescue cat when I bought him home. I got another when I got a puppy, and it seemed to help him.

Tried to kill myself 3rd September 2015. Came very, very close to being successful.

Got a puppy I’m training to become a Search and Rescue dog April 24th 2016. She’s ace.

It’s been an interesting couple of years….

One of the things I’d be looking for in a new puppy, regardless of the breed is whether it’s confident or not. Confidence seems to me, to be largely genetic in dogs, and unconfident parents will lead to unconfident puppies. Generally speaking, good breeders will only breed from confident dogs.

A unconfident dog can have all sorts of issues, such as inappropriate responses and behaviours to stimuli. It’ll need a lot of work to make a good, reliable companion.

To start with, I’d take a puppy into a new environment, away from its littermates, and see how it behaves. A confident puppy will enjoy exploring the new area with it’s tail up, wagging. It should sniff objects and ideally physically interact with them. For example, putting front paws up on a chair to further investigate. A confident puppy should approach you and attempt to gain attention too.

Handle the puppy, stroke it, with long, deliberate strokes down it’s body, the puppy should relax and should enjoy the attention.

Expose the puppy to a sudden, unexpected noise, like dropping keys on the floor. A confident puppy will probably startle, but recover quickly and approach and investigates the keys (sniffing and/or pawing) without fear.

Finally, I’d see how keen the puppy is to accept training. Show the puppy some soft food treats, and give a couple to start, then move away. if the puppy quickly and enthusiastically approaches the food treats it’s a good sign, especially if it follows the food treats with his eyes and body. If the puppy initially doesn’t show any interest in food treats, try a squeaky toy.

According the the SRAM site, the mmx clamp is on most of their 11 speed stuff.

I swapped brakes off my Mega, from DB5s with a GX shifter (1×11), and the MMX clamp was present.

I hit rock bottom last September. I tried to kill myself, and came very close to being successful. Indoor BBQing is bad m’kay!

After I left the ICU I was packed off home, still couldn’t cope, and ended up as a voluntary in patient at a local psyc ward. In terms of my “recovery” that only served as a “safe place” and somewhere to get my meds sorted. It really wasn’t that bad being in if I’m honest, and helped me reset.

What really helped me, above everything else though was being open and up front with my friends, and accepting their support.

Spend time with your mates if you can, and look after yourself! Drop me an email if you fancy, I’m happy to listen.

I was forced to have one of these thanks to the nurse on the ward. It has to be said, this xmass and new year will definitely be one to forget.

It wasn’t a task that I was set, it was definitely a voluntary thing.

The plan, such that it is, would be to delete it and get rid of it all. As I see it, if it’s mine, I can, if it’s theirs, I probably can’t.

The whether I should or not, that’s a totally different question! 🙂

I use the dry oil stuff.

Walking the Cape Wrath trail last August convinced me it works.
The weekend just gone, bodying for the search dogs in Northumberland cemented my opinion of the stuff. I was sitting in a cloud of the little bitey bastards (midges – not dogs!) for a couple of hours and the only place I got bitten was just above my socks (not sprayed). As a bonus, I’m normally a tick magnet, and I didn’t get any that weekend, despite seeing a good dozen or so knocking around.

I broke mine 19th Aug last year. Was advised not to get anything done to it. Still can’t sleep on the broken side. No climbing, or biking, can’t carry a rucksack, or shopping bags and still have numbness in my little and ring finger (as well as tricep!).

I hope you have better luck!

I found that providing raw chicken wings calmed my cats hunting down a lot. He went from pretty much every day to about 1 in 3 now.

I wouldn’t say raw feeding has to be complicated.

My moggy gets Nutriment food which is cheap and easy to feed. It comes in a small frozen block which lasts about a week. He gets raw chicken wings 3 times a week too.

The major bonus for me switching to a raw diet is that his poo doesn’t stink anywhere near as much as it used to and he’s certainly more active and in better condition than when he was on dry food previously.

I’m not convinced that dry food is the best for a cat as they don’t have a well developed thirst reflex so most of their moisture needs to come from their food. Also, most processed wet foods seem to be bulking agent and low in meat content. e.g with the raw food Ollie gets, he only needs 30g a day (for a 5 Kg cat!) to maintain his weight.

Go with someone like godaddy, or ipage and get a hosting package, register your domain name etc, and then set up a wordpress install. It’s pretty straightforward, and there’s loads of tutorials etc. on the internet.

You might also want to think about the litter that you’re using. It’s possible that the furry blighter doesn’t like to stand on the stuff you’re currently using.

Mine won’t stand on the clay type stuff, and prefer the wooden pellettes. Once he’e dug them around and they’ve broken down into something resembling clay again, he won’t go near the tray.

Give your washing machine a clean by putting it on the hottest setting with an empty drum and nothing added. Then use liquid soap (e.g. Dripak from larger Tescos),or soap flakes dissolved in warm water), or techwash to wash. Don’t use a bog standard detergent as it’s designed to actually make materials wet, which is not what you’re trying to achieve.

Then “reproof” with either Nikwax or Grangers spray on stuff, (TX direct or XT spray respectively).

Cool tumble dry if you can, but it won’t be the end of the world if you cant.

Please don’t cycle the tank with fish in, it’s stressful and cruel to the fish, and as it’s perfectly easy to do chemically, and allows you to fully stock at once, to my mind it makes much more sense.

For fish, for character and fun, see if you can get a couple of pigmy puffers. Heavily plant the tank and use a sandy substrate, and all will be good. Also, you could have a shrimp tank, you’d get a fair few cherry shrimp in there, and they’re fun to watch. Personally, a pair of South American Dwarf Chichlids would be my choice if you have an acidic pH tap water, again heavily planted and with a sandy substrate.

You won’t be able to put enough of a shoaling fish in that size of tank for the group to be happy, so you’ll be better off with 1 or 2 larger fish (large = up to 2-3″!)

I definatly only have the one account!

I think the Previous versions issue should be overcome with the “Permanently delete” function.

I’ve now permanently deleted all files, and it still says it’s full 🙁

They are already zip files (!) which is a shame, but what concerns me more is that I’ve supposedly deleted the best part of 600 MB (out of my 2 GB limit) and yet it still says it’s full.

I have to be doing something wrong…. 😕

Seems to be the new Berghaus way, I have a 10 year old Mera Peak that has fantastic build quality but I’ve just bought the latest version from go outdoors and it is made from much lighter weight material and the logos are “iron on”

Correct me if I’m wrong but the 2004 vintage Mera peak was made from 3 layer gore-tex XCR whereas the 2014 edition is only 2 layer gore-tex?

Fundamentally that makes it a very different jacket to your old one, so you’re not actually comparing like for like….

Either way, even if you were, the newer gore-tex 3 layer (pro-shell) is lighter but more durable in lab and “real world” tests than the old XCR which it replaced as a result of changing the inner scrim and using narrower seam tape. It’s also significantly more breathable.

I’d also assume with development in fabric technologies over time, face fabrics have become lighter and equally (or more) durable than older generations, which will also add to the weight saving and the apart lack of “robustness”

will give that a go….will probably help with not getting wet feet

You can still give the load a spin which will help get rid of the excess water from the washing process, and hopefully stop you getting wet feet!

I think it’s the filling and draining with several loadsworth of fresh water as part of the rinsing process that causes the problems with the longevity of the DWR.

For washing waterproofs and softshells I use Dripak liquid soap – Available from larger Tescos, and I’m sure loads of other shops.

Much cheaper than Techwash, and does exactly the same thing (i.e. doesn’t strip the DWR coating off, or “wet” the fabric). You still need to use a DWR replacement like TX Direct every 5 or so washes though.

“Normal” non-technical layers, just get a quick rinse in the sink before going in the washing machine, to get the worst of the caked on mud off.

Edit: Also, “top tip” (!), from experimenting with my waterproofs, it seems that when using a wash in DWR replacement, if you turn off the rinse setting on the washing machine, it gives a better, longer lasting coating to your clothing. I’m assuming the rinsing washes off some of the coating you’re trying to apply…
