    Got two dyno light setups are the mo.

    Commuter: Alfine dynamo hub + B&M Cyo RT Senso Plus front, Philips Saferide rear
    Winter/Audax bike: Shutter Precision PV-8 + B&M Cyo Senso Plus

    I love it! Not having to worry about charging batteries on the commuter is ace. Plus not having to remove the lights each day when I lock it up at work. The Philips Saferide rear is pretty cool – had quite a few people comment on it, both cyclists and pedestrians. A dyno setup is definitely the way forward for no hassle commuting.

    The Cyo’s have a standlight so stay on for 2 mins when you stop, hence works in traffic.

    Got my Shutter Precision direct from Taiwan (on ebay), supposedly its what the USE hub is. A lot lighter than the Alfine dyno hub.

    I think there’s a new B&M light out which is brighter than the Cyo; worth a look if your buying now.

    Orbit MX’s are only £20 at Planetx. People seem to rate them. I would get one if they had silver.

    Haven’t used them yet actually. Thou they feel comfy indoors and come with 3 different size arch things. The sole tread is quite beefy but seems hard so not sure on grip.

    Bought a pair of Shimano XC50n’s a couple weeks ago (size 44), they would make great UK shoes. However I’m finding them too big in terms of volume (and the 43 was too short), so went for the Giro’s. The sizing is similar to Spesh. I wear size 43 Spesh road shoes and got a size 43.5 in the Giro.

    I’ve got prescription ones with transitions. Had them for a couple of years, they’ve been great! I have a smallish face so they fit better than jawbones.

    Riding with a club usually gives you the group riding skills/awareness to start road racing IMO.

    Did a tour last year with a different arrival and departure destination so had to use a CTC plastic bag…

    Turned out ok, apart from the fact they lost our bikes for 3 days and we had to wait around until they arrived (and do the tour in half the time). Sleazyjet compensated us (after a lot of complaining) for more than the holiday cost thou :)

    I did it in April with 2 friends over 9 days. We went lightweight, staying in B&Bs and at friends houses. Train from London to Penzance, and Train from Wick to Inverness and the sleeper back to the london. Left bikes with a shop in Wick to be posted home for 50 quid.

    I took a change of clothes for the evening in a Carradice barley (with trainers strapped to the top).

    We used the CTC yha route and adapted it to make detours to friends places.

    Photos here. lejog photos . Take note of the first photo on how NOT to do it, two guys I met on the train. You’ll have a great time!

    I’ve got a google spreadsheet with all the gps routes and places we stayed (and cafe’s to stop at!) if you want to take a look. Give me an email.

    Carradice bagman support and bag? I’ve got a Barley but they do bigger ones. Strapped a Alpkit drybag with my shoes in it to the top in this photo.

    Bought my Seat Leon from them a few years ago. Hassle free and it was a decent car, but in hindsight I think I paid more than it was worth.

    Just put a new set of 23c GP 4Seasons on my winter bike. The last pair did 5000 miles with maybe 2 or 3 punctures. Plus they ride like normal race tyres.

    Get em cheap from http://www.bike-discount.de

    Crikey Damitamit, that’s a back light and a half. Does it bolt on? What sort is it?

    That’s a Philips Saferide dynamo jobbie. Big reflector in the middle with a “lumiring” around it.

    The tortec has a plate to bolt on rack specific lights. I know Smart sell a rack mount separately for their lights.

    Tortec Expedition and back roller classics. The expedition has a separate pannier rail so you can still easily strap stuff to the top when the pannier is on.

    I tried on some Spesh Comps in Evans last night.

    Tbh, compared to my old Pros they felt a bit cheap! The tongue wasnt finished very well. They fit good thou but for £100 seem a bit low rent. Also, the sole was noticeably more flexible than my Pros.

    Ordered a set of Giro Gauges to try on.

    Thanks for the info. Probably stick with some cheaper Spesh or gonna go try some Giro Gauge’s on. They seem to get good reviews.

    I’ve commuted on a Alfine’d (8spd) road bike for 3 years now and the maybe 4 times I’ve had to fix a puncture haven’t been too bad. There’s a knack to it, but once you know its pretty simple.

    I love the no hassle maintenance of it; my chain is a mess but it doesnt matter! Haven’t cleaned the bike in months.

    Mine feels quite draggy now. Well a lot harder than my geared bikes. I think the bearings need changing. Not sure whether to get it serviced or buy a new one. SJS have them for £120 at the moment!

    Ah, sorry. Wasn’t paying attention.

    Another possible way to do it would be:

    with orders
    as
    (
    select accountid, invoicedate, ROW_NUMBER() over (partition by accountid order by invoicedate asc) as rownum
    from filteredsalesorder

    )

    select *
    from orders
    join FilteredAccount on orders.accountid = filteredAccount.accountid
    where orders.invoicedate > DATEADD(m,-1,getdate())
    and orders.rownum = 1

    Thou I’m not sure it will be faster than your original query…

    damitamit

    If you dont need the invoice date, surely the quickest way would be:

    select distinct accountid
    from filteredsalesorder
    where invoicedate > DATEADD(m,-1,getdate())

    I’m assuming accountid and invoicedate would be in a non-clustered index for a table like that.

    If you need to only see particular accounts then maybe a CTE like so:

    with monthoneorders
    as
    (
    select distinct accountid
    from filteredsalesorder
    where invoicedate > DATEADD(m,-1,getdate())
    )

    select *
    from monthoneorders
    join FilteredAccount on monthoneorders.accountid = filteredAccount.accountid

    As said above, I think the most important thing for a long ride is a bike you know and have ridden lots so know it works. Also mudguards! (as we do live in England)

    If you’re gonna use the Croix De Fer and want to spend some money I would get a carbon post (easton EC70 is reasonably priced/light), carbon forks (i use Kinesis Pure CX on my cx/audax bike), some full length mudguards and a set of good road wheels. Either something like the Shimano RS80 or handbuilt Velocity A23s on Novatech hubs.
