There were some at the junction in Highgate when I was waiting at the traffic lights on my bike. Thou they didn’t even bat an eyelid when some knob came past and jumped the red light, crossing the whole junction.

The Bear Grylls compact was actually cheaper in October: http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Gerber-Bear-Grylls-Compact-Multi-Tool/product/B004DT2912

Cracked my screen on my Nexus 4 last weekend. Took it to Geek Squad in Carphone Warehouse (Tottenham Court Rd London) store and they repaired it next day for £80.

Thou obviously it must depend on the particular phone (there was a girl in there with a cracke S3 they were quoting 170 for).

I guess you’re referring to the Code bit in Report Properties?

I would just install Visual Studio Express to write the VB code with the syntax formatter. You’ll then have to just copy the code into the box in Business Intelligence Studio. Or you could package it up into an assembly and reference that in the report.

I use a notepad in meetings to write a todo list (I tried with a Nexus 7 tablet but couldn’t type fast enough on it). And then Trello for overall planning.

It does a little Amit – Are you on Di2? Flash git

Couldn’t resist Merlin’s 50% off upgrade kits :) Surely its the perfect winter bike groupset; no cables to go gritty and easy to push buttons with frozen fingers.

Lee, parts of that Fossa looks quite similar to my FM028.

I use a chinese FM028 frame as a winter bike. First had Crud Roadracers on it but then retrofitted proper guards (with carbon rod for mudguard stays and mounting points using Meccano).

Done about 7000 miles on it and I’m still alive. Much nicer to ride than my previous heavy steel/alu winter bikes.

I’ve ridden under the one in Finchley Central twice a day for many years. It’s cool how the tube goes across it.

    Looks like a cross between a FM-028, a FM-066 and something else.

If you want to fit normal guards and bridge the seatstay bridge you can chop the guard and use 2x the right angle bracket out of this:

    http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/blackburn-blackburn-mtn-1-rear-rack-fitting-kit-prod25871/

Better to ask in the LBS for just the one bracket. I got them for a couple of quid.

    Works like this:

Used a Ortlieb Front roller classic for commuting for years.

Needed some bigger ones a couple years ago for touring so bought some Vaude Discover Pros from wiggle. Used them for a week’s wet touring in Scotland and they leaked. Returned them (wiggle were good about it) and bought some Ortlieb Back rollers plus (which I shouldve done in the first place). Been fine ever since.

    Ortlieb gets my vote.

I’ve been doing Edgware to Kentish Town for the last 7 years, usually 3-4 times a week. Based on 3 times a week I’ve just worked out I’ve saved £4700 :) I probably haven’t spent too much on commuting bike gear; been riding this for the last 4 years (probably the longest I’ve kept a bike). Thou I’ve swapped the Alfine for 1×9 using Dura-Ace bar end shifters recently.

Right, i’m off to buy some bike shit!

Definitely go dynamo if you’re doing alot of commuting. It’s great not having to worry about charging or being caught out without lights etc.

I use a alfine dynamo and B&M Cyo up front and a Phillips Saferide at the back.

How do you get on with that? Brought the summer bike with Di2 out a bit early this year and found hitting the shift buttons with proper thick winter gloves quite tricky.

Dunno yet. Haven’t taken it out in full winter glove weather. Had light winter gloves on in the rain on Sunday and it seemed fine.

Mine got its last ride last week and now the winter bike is out to play. Not all gloom thou; just put Di2 on the winter steed :)

Took it out again on Sunday for a very wet club run.

    1. It works in the rain.
    2. I’m loving it even more! The front shifting is immense. I love the hood shape; really nice to hold.

I’ve taken the plunge anyway & decided to go electric.

    Right choice!

Finally got round to finishing mine and taking it for a ride. Very impressed; it certainly put a smile on my face!

Here’s some (bad) photos of the external install on my winter/audax bike:

Handtec are a reputable company. I bought my Garmin Dakota off them back in 2009 and they’re still in business now so I wouldnt worry (if they’re the cheapest).

Yeh, that bit was fairly easy. Shift to the 5th gear, then press the button to go into the adjustment mode and use the shifter buttons to micro adjust the mech.

I spent a LOT more time just looking at the frame thinking about how to connect it all together and make it neat. Hit me up if you have any questions.

Well the kit came and I installed it this weekend. The Shimano cable sheaths are really good and make it look quite neat.

However, the Merlin kit comes with very long cables (and you cant choose which lengths you receive). The cables are £17 each to buy on their own so I ended up getting the soldering iron out and shortening 3 out of the 4 cables as there was just too much slack to hide anywhere on the frame.

Seems to still work. First ride tonight! :)

Couldn’t resist! Ordered the upgrade kit from Merlin so will see how the external cabling install goes…

I’ve had a Dakota 20 for 4 years. A friend got a Etrex 30 last year. The etrex is a lot newer so has a better screen (better contrast) and longer battery life. Plus its not as bulky as the Dakota.

However, the Etrex is not touchscreen and the joystick thing is quite hard to use while riding.

I wonder when Garmin are going to replace the Dakota…

I’m thinking to do the same. I reckon I’ll only know once I buy the upgrade kit and see what all the cables etc are like.

Shimano sell adhesive cable sheaths for this. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-ewc2-di2-cable-cover-sheath/rp-prod69041

If you’re talking about the alu one, just based on how many people own them they must be good! At least 5 in the small road club I belong too.
