As there is very little co2 in the earths atmosphere I don’t get all the push on reduction? If the climate is changing it can’t be down to co2. It is estimated that co2 accounts for 0.04% of the earths atmosphere.

    From National Geographic:

Earth’s atmosphere is composed of about 78 percent nitrogen, 21 percent oxygen, 0.9 percent argon, and 0.1 percent other gases. Trace amounts of carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and neon are some of the other gases that make up the remaining 0.1 percent.

I went to the local merchant and the whole unit with new seals was £11 so I bought one and fitted it. Seems to have done the trick. Don’t know which bit was the problem but for £11 and a couple of hours to sort out it should be good for a few more years.

Water level is below overflow. I shut off the water and removed the valve unit to drain the cistern and water was still running into the pan until the cistern was empty. This makes me think that the seals for the bayonet fitting are at fault?

Changing the cassette will extend the range, changing the chainring will move the range.

Oh, and it sounds like you are overgeared not under.

This is the correct advice /\

A few dabs of superglue and no tape works for me. When I want to remove the spacers a light tap with a plastic mallet knocks them off and I clean up the spacers and hub with IPA.

1100 rebel would be a nice choice and you could have dct too. Honda build quality and reliability is still unbeatable imo.

CB500x owner and I echo those who say it would fit your brief. Great fun to ride and performance is good considering it’s only 47bhp. At a bit over £6K they are a bargain and can be upgraded with accessories/parts to suit your needs. The fuel economy is good too at over 70mpg without having to try.

Every time I think about changing it for something bigger, more off-road orientated or whatever I go for a ride and it wins me over again.

    Here’s mine

I had the same issue when using my parts bin to build up a frame. I bought a front wheel “boost” kit from ebay and superglued the spacers to the ends of the hub. Fitted the six bolt spacer for the disc brake and it works great. I used the thru axle to keep everything aligned and small dabs of glue so they could be knocked off again if necessary.
I used to just use the spacers loose but when taking the wheel out they can fall off and roll so could be lost on the trail if doing a repair so decided a bit of glue would solve that problem.

The turtle wax and auto glym seem to be the sort of thing I was thinking of. Spray on, rub in with a cloth and then it forms a coating for a few weeks/months. Although it’s a company/lease car I still like it to be clean when I visit customers or the office but I want keeping it clean to be as easy as I can make it. Like most things, if it turn out to be more hassle than it’s worth then it won’t last. :)

Thanks for all the replies, as you can tell I know nothing about this and all the different treatments that can be applied. I have learnt that I don’t want polish and need some kind of sealant/coating product.

    @somafunk
    ,

it’s not been washed since as the dirt/grime washes off by itself in the rain

this is what I am trying to achieve :)

I think a detailer may be what I need.

If the v5 says “van with side windows” then technically it is a van/commercial vehicle. All UK campsites I’ve used allow VW’s so I don’t think you will have an issue with booking. The vehicle status will affect speed limits from what I remember. i.e 50mmph max on single carriageway, 60mph on dual carriageway.

With the wife & kids, a large dog, bikes and stuff for a holiday I don’t think you will find a van based camper that meets the payload. Have you considered a caravan? You could choose the layout that suits your needs and carry the family and dog in comfort and safety in the car. You could also put bikes on the roof if you didn’t want to put them inside the caravan for travelling.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It has given me a clearer idea of what to look for.

@northermatt, I thought the same about the prices when we started looking online, I can’t believe some of the prices for new pvc’s/mh’s. It’s an expensive mistake if you get the wrong vehicle.

I am old enough to have a license for over 3500kg so could go for a heavier plated vehicle to add more carrying capacity but the smaller units were attractive as I figured they would give better access to places off the beaten track.
It’s a medium term plan (about 2 years to work it out) so plenty of time to look around and gather info’.

Thanks for the quick replies. I thought it would be payload but always best to sanity check. :)
As a follow up is 350kg of payload enough? Onboard water and gas tanks so I’m assuming 50-70kg of payload taken up by those. 2 adults and a small dog with food and clothes and two bikes. I reckon it could be tight.

There are 3 bikes in our household with sunrace cassettes. All use sram chains, 1130’s. Chainrings are a mix of shimano, superstar and race face so I would put your noise down to the chain. I had a KMC chain on my bike that was noisy and clunky before fitting the sram. Sunrace/sram combo just seems to work.

Get her good quality padded shorts and a dropper post.
Padded shorts for riding comfort and a dropper so she can have the saddle in the correct position when pedaling but drop down to put her feet down when needed. This is the main function of my wife’s dropper as she doesn’t ride gnarr but likes to plant her feet when she stops without having to jump off the saddle.
For reference, she uses a WTB pure in a wide size (148mm from memory) with dhb padded shorts under her baggies.

@renton, it won’t be £500 a month for a basic golf. The golfs on our list cost high rate tax payers around £260/mth.

The comcar link above will tell you what you will pay. you can put your salary into the calculator to get a more accurate figure.

edit: should have said, they have Golf 8 2.0TDI R Line manual

Too much green on the merc for me (I especially hate the green wheel rings). The alpine livery looks so much better.

    Short update.

Got out for a first proper ride this morning. Took a route from Hebden Bridge up to Colden and then over Gorple to Hardcastle Craggs and back into Hebden. The bike and components are great and it was perfect for my route. The frame combined with the gearing made the climbs easier than I remembered and I can’t wait to do more.

First climb done so stop for a drink and a photo.

Crossing the river Hebden. Just over halfway and the bike is feeling good now.

This is my alpinestars cro-mega hardtail. It’s hardcore due to the rigid fork and old school geometry including 1990’s 130mm stem. 🙂

Great bike for fast singletrack though.

Made a couple of changes and this is pretty much done. Just an under bar lever for the dropper and that will be it.

Nice build @poah. It looks good in the snow!

I got mine off ebay. I was looking for a while but this looks like it will do the job. I’ve never had a Vitus but the reviews are positive so I’m looking forward to trying it. I’m just waiting for mech, shifter and dropper lever to arrive and then I’m done.

@johnnystorm, thanks for checking. i’m going to give it a go. It’s a hardtail frame so thought there was a chance it would work but always good to get positive feedback from someone who has done it already.

Why worry about the plastic bags (that can be recycled in store anyway) when you are driving to the store. More ghg produced by the vehicle use than plastic bag use.

Is £50 + shipping budget enough for you? I’ve got some Giant 27.5 alloy wheels with shimano free hub. Used for 3 rides so as new, 100 x 15 front and 135QR rear. Send me a message if you want them.

Glad it’s not just my tyre. It is sold as a tubeless tyre so it just surprised me that it leaked. Especially through the tread rather than the sidewall. As you say mboy, it just needs to get out more!

I bought from bikeparts.co.uk on 6th Jan for my xt brakes. They ship quickly with Royal Mail tracked delivery.

I used this and it’s working great.

You get the ferrule and olive and the grips to help with fitting + threaded fitting. The banjo is already fitted on one end of the hose.

I think they are low on staff and have a high number of cases. I ordered a bottom bracket and received a cassette so had to arrange a return/credit. In the past this has taken about a week but in this instance it’s still going through the process after two weeks. They’re just slow at the moment. If you paid for next day delivery and didn’t get it then I’m sure they will refund you.

As above ^ Don’t buy the Makita from B&Q. Makita are good tools but you want the LXT batteries. I have loads of Makita tools and gardening equipment and the LXT batteries swap between all units and power everything fully. I use 3ah, 4ah and 5ah batteries and they give good run time.
