Use the wiggle light test to see what you are getting

Don’t listen to some of the comments above, especially if you commute on unlit country roads
Front light bright as you can get and throwing a beam that’s as good as a cars. I have oh too often when using a couple of watts front light had cars think its OK to cut a bend at speed.
Doesn’t happen when putting out 400+ Lumens
Back lights 2 I use a flashing Knog clipped on clothing, small flasher on the helmet and a steady Lezyne on the bike.

Not sure of what route youu are taking “passing Mt Blanc”
Maybe st Gervais is on your route some nice walks from there and railway up towards Cham or even on to slopes of Mt Blanc, thermal baths are good as is the walk up the gorge behind them, Servos just up the road for the “Dragon” gorge again worth a visit. Theres also 2 topv mahoosive shops for outdoor stuff.

Last week met a group of road cyclists (presumably a club), riding 3 wide on a busy A road, on a straight (which is one of the few on the road where it is safe to pass anything),

Blow your F****** horn at them put 2 fingers up as you drive past, you did get past didn’t you ?

whilst there is harvesting going on all around and a lot of machinery on the roads

Go on horn and 2 fingers at those bstards as well, did you ? I doubt it.

Always an odd question, in all the years I was involved with MRT and working a search dog I never gave it a thought. Did think maybe a contribution from the government for the teams equipment, thinking back though I did spend a lot of time and money, not on rescues but on training. Twice a week, at least, every week for 12 years. So any body fancy coughing up mail me and they can make a donation. 🙂

3 pints yesterday whilst spending 8 hours at a Blues festival, nothing tonight as I wont finish work till 11:00, same for next 3 nights
Friday well after an 80 mile ride I may just have a beer or 3, just for recovery you understand. Then a trip to Dalby is on the cards so more recovery drinks, Sunday well its only 65 miles of a ride so hey 2 pints should do.

Its better than a lot of the other trail centres mentioned, its good for an Enduro I know as I once spent 12 hours going around it on my own.
Fast lads could do it in an hour throw in a couuple of climbs back up to do Hully Gully (you will) a couple of times throgh the skinnies add in 1/2 per an hour person getting up the bottle to ride the slab. Actualy clean it up the black then go do it all again if you are honest about how well you rode it. Check your times on Strava and realise you are slow go back next day and try and improve after sampling some of the brews at local hosteleries, then you’ll want to come back again. By then there will be new stuf, as unlike some trail centres its evolving

MSP – Member The majority of goods coming into Europe will be coming from the far east, it would take longer to get to Liverpool than many other European ports.

Now with NW passage opening up with all these plans and trains competing for global warming Liverpool is ideally placed as the gateway to Europe.

Flight from Manchester to Heathrow – ~£90 (train normally ~£180 odd if booked at short notice)
    Taxi to airport – £15
Taxi/Train the other end depending on how many of us are travelling/meeting there

Why post the cheapest of one and the most expensive of the other ?
If you are going to compare do it like for like.
Looking for a trip to London tomorrow from Manchester earliest vacant flight is after 10:00 ariving 11:00 and would cost £180 train turn up 9:10 in London 11:23 £108.
    Now next month same date
    Flying earliest flight 10:00 £53
    Train same times £34
    3 months time arriving 7:00 to 8:00
    £49 flying
    £131 Train

Now thats when the train prices look stupid

    A little known fact
    Ilkley London fare = £257
    Ilkley Doncaster = £17.70
    Doncaster Newark = £34.60
    Newark London = £135

Thats a fair saving, even cheaper if you split the ticket Retford Newark Peterborough

But if you take the Leeds to London route, there IS a fairly high speed train available. The flights from LBA are full…

The train takes over 2 hours, twice as long as the flight and just as expensive…

Having been a regular commuter to London in the past I thought I’d check

Flying depart home 7:00 arrive central London 11:30, depart central London 17:30 arrive home 21:15.
14 hours and 6 hours in London

Drive to airport and park 40 minutes Parking £ 26.00
Cheapest flight return 1 hour £156.00
Arrive and check in 1.5 hours
    Travel to London 30 minutes £ 30.00
    Total 3:40 £212.00

Train Leave home 6:40 Arrive central London 10:00, depart central London 18:00 arrive home 21:20.
14.5 hours, 8 hours in London

Drive to station and park 10 Minutes Free
    Fare 3 hours £186.00
Arrive and jump on train 5 minutes
    Total 3:15 £186

I think some one needs to add up cost in time and all the other bits, I havent allowed for fuel which would only add more money to the Air Flight

The significant paragrph from the Times is

“Motorists who speed, pass too close to cyclists, drive in cycle lanes, fail to look properly while turning and stop in cycle boxes at traffic lights are liable for fines and points on their licence as well as possible jail terms. These offences should be treated seriously by police and enforced more strongly, while cyclists who jump red lights or disobey the rules of the road should also be dealt with according to the same laws. Only a small minority of motorists or cyclists misbehave – most are law-abiding, responsible road users. This must be encouraged.”

Unfortunately reporting them is at the moment a waste of time, I’ve tried.

Oh and the big fallacy that its safe on a bike in Holland, with 200+ deaths in 2011 it is worse than the UK by almost 100%.
The stats are quoted as safe against the number of miles/km traveled as most of them are done on traffic free cycle paths wearing a helmet is probably not a necessity as the objective dangers are low. Having cycled on the roads in the Netherlands away from the cyclepaths its pretty scary.

Some interesting Stats popup when you start looking. Off road I’m slow but always in top 10/20 % in the segments, must be some really slow people out there.
Racing {SITS} averaging 9 MPH in the dry 7.2 in last years mud.
Road it depends on the hills and who you ride with, Anything from 9.6 MPH [Solo Alpine climb] to 20 [TT] on the flat. In a group 18 MPH is an easy ride
