Pedros syn lube ,local grit means wash bike after each ride, so dry and relube chain each time ,let oil soak in, wipe before ride.Cheap and cheerful for me. whip chain off once fortnight-ish shake in spirit re-oil.I think local grit kills chains more than lube saves them !

switched to bolt in on a prophet with 717 rims no noticable difference.Built some 819 rims that made a subtle but noticable difference through rock gardens and ruts.

doug-was hoping that was the case, trouble with real ust is cost, struggle to keep up with running costs(kids clothes food).Wire rollers=cheap.Riding mostly rocky with hard pack I suspect youre lot are easier on there tyres than my slower point pedal and hope method of riding :|

does the rim strip just help with the initial inflate ?
running them tubed as I have just built the wheels. They certainly take some getting on and off .Was thinking single ply.Might try the rear first, pressure wise around 30 psi

you will have to split the fork to measure the inner races.most likely just need a bearing swap. Not rocket science, which year/type lefty? you will need bearings -£15ish seal kit £7ish. If you lift the boot can you feel wear in the inner races? The outers contained in the upper assembly are usually all the same size.At a push you can turn the lower races around just make sure you know the position of each race they are specific to there position

what about sapim race ? JE james do black for 66p each though they are 14mm nips good if you need a few sizes

Its the Park tool, hopeing you get a reasonable absoloute tension reading as this is my reference. Will try to check tension.Decided to go one size spoke for the back and two for the front. This being my first build wanted to keep it as simple as possible.Onzadog if you read this then thank you for youre help and I owe you a pint.

Roger musson used 14mm as its easier to get a key on the nips this being my first build I wanted easy, though the lefty and 819's probably not the easiest :roll:to start on
can you remember the spoke tension ? does 80-90 kgf sound about right

taka if youre going to Tons majical mystery tour I will bring mine along. its the Roger Musson one

    dale

dont think the 12mm is any good for the 819 as the nipple cups need a minimum of 14mm

    dale

    would 16mm nips help?
