Patiently waiting on mine,
Was told that it was in the build Q, and they would get to it last week or this.
They seem good guys as I have gone for a bit of a picky build, maybe I’ll give them a chaser call tomorrow.
Hope it comes soon, the dusty golfie is calling me..
dair86Free MemberBig vote for Fresh Suspension in troon, built my bombproof wheels hope/ex471, bearing swaps, reverb and Suspension servicing.
He can’t do.the fancy nitro that bike and spanner in Edinburgh can, so that’s where my x2 shock went 😀
dair86Free MemberI have come from a golden eye, now on an endura mt500 helmet. Cracking lid.
Also bought my wife, a brand x lid recently. Awesome value for the money.
dair86Free MemberCheers, looks like the roof wins.
@nobeer you clearly haven’t seen what mrs d classes as ‘only the essentials’ 😂 as for the dag it will be doing the tarmac driveways in my absence.
dair86Free MemberGoing by the wording on his insta account they seem have broken into his house to steal them. That’s proper shitty.
I do plenty of riding in Dunkeld and have bumped into him a few times over the years, always been friendly and chatty. Proper shit thing to happen to a nice bloke.
dair86Free MemberSimple life is all well and good, but I suspect wife and kid means he might be looking for a bit more than just paying his travel and race fee’s
dair86Free MemberHeal up soon Cathro,
Love his videos and riding.
I came off at that spot a few months back, you are licking on by the time you get there and I’m no world cup racer.
dair86Free MemberIm married to Dundonian, well she is a pretend Dundonian. Angus Girl from Muirhead and Birkhill.
Once married i repatriated her to Ayrshire where we live.
the In-laws still live in Muirhead,
Its a pretty nice place to live, Village life, local shop, village pub (wifes uncle is the owner) within 5 mins of downtown Dundee.
Other Suggestions from across the sofa,
Liff
Monifieth
Fowlis (brother inlaw lives there)
As for riding,
Dunkeld 40mins away,
Gorms in just over an hour,
Tweed Valley in 2 hrs
Also plenty of riding across the water in fife
dair86Free MemberI rode with a gent of a similar age in a similar circumstance last summer in the gorms, he was sing the praise of his whyte T130,
Looks a lot of bike for the money,
dair86Free MemberI have recently spent a few days of my furlough building a tool box inspired by toolboxwars on Instagram (pro bike spannerists boxs)
Anyone care to let me know how to upload a few pictures I shall show you my build
dair86Free MemberRode Funkeld last weekend.
Rake and ruin, pink floyd, electric beaver. All running well.
After some pizza and beer in the Atholl Arms beer garden.
Secret Beaver, Scooby doo and hong Kong phooey. Secret Beaver needs a bit of a trim🤭 rest were running well.
If you have a car,Ben Cathro seems to have been busy with a spade up in pitlochry
dair86Free MemberNo worries,
I should add we came home via the tunnel, this worked better for us at the time due to the ferry departure times and visiting friends in Geneva on the way home.
The Newcastle ferry makes it feel like you are really only travelling on one full day.
Few hours drive to newcastle on the Saturday then treat the ferry like a floating hotel.
Check into your cabin, pre dinner drinks, some dinner, then a few beers before bed.
Cinema/nightclub/casino onboard if you are that way inclined.
Top tips I was given buy someone who had done it before.
– Get a deal on the ferry that includes your meals, makes them a fraction of the price if you paid the onboard prices.
– Friday sailings can be busy with party groups heading to Amsterdam for the weeken. Our Saturday sailing didn’t seem that busy.
– wifi onboard is expensive and no phone signal at sea unless you sign up to the expensive maritime service. Download any entertainment you think you might need before you go.
dair86Free MemberYes Verbier is very ‘Hooray Henry’ full of folk with a sense of self entitlement because daddy owns a chalet, the Skiing is good though.
Not sure id rush back, Chamonix ticks more steeps/less **** but glad I spent 2 days there ticking it off the list.
Not sure what our plans next season will be, last few years early march we have picked up some last minute deals to Les Arc 2000. Cruising Reds to Suit Mrs D, Steep bits to keep me entertained.
dair86Free MemberAs part of Me and my old mans xmas ski adventure we did the Newcastle/Holland ferry last December, worked really well,
Left Ayrshire lunch time Saturday, Early evening ferry from Newcastle. Arrive in Holland around 11am Sunday. Battered through Holland for a few hours before meeting the German Autobahns*, Entered Switzerland at Basel. Arriving at Interlaken around 7pm for dinner.
We then spent the next 2 weeks on a bit of a Switzerland Greatest hits driving tour.
– Wegen
– Adelboden
– Crans Montana
– Verbier
– ZermattHaving done the M6 carpark/tunnel/french tolls, I would thoroughly recommend Holland/German route, being two tight Scots, we did plenty of research into the price. When taking all into account,
-Fuel
-over night hotel had we gone via channel tunnel/french tolls
-french tolls
-ferry cost
-Trains in Switzerland(car transporter through the mountains)both we very close on price, but having now done both i would do the Holland route every time.
– No M6 carpark
– 4hours driving then you have a beer in your hand while you wait on your dinner reservaion
– German Driving was easier than the french auto routes (not sure why just felt better)If you have any questions just ask,
*Note on Autobahn, awesome driving experience, how motorways should work. Cruise control set to 130kph sitting in the inside lane watching the locals doing some pretty extreme speeds. Totally safe, smooth and efficient.
dair86Free MemberI believe it’s an A2 post
30.9 dia
I can double check the serial numbers tomorrow if you wish
Cheers
dair86Free MemberYip, absolutely nailed it. Looked a right laugh making it aswell.
As a youtuber commented, not playing smells like teen spirit is the most nirvana thing to do.
🤣
dair86Free MemberYup, dt swiss ex471,survived all iv thrown at them. Gwin rode without a tyre on one and finished.
dair86Free MemberI wouldn’t expect to get a warranty from anything other than a brand new bike.
In saying that when I bought my Five in 2013, an ex demo from Orange. I was only offered the remainder of the warranty, 2 years
They offered me the option to have the the bike fully re-sprayed as the paint work was too tatty to sell on. In doing so they gave me a years paint warranty.
Best part was when I went to Halifax to pick it up, they couldn’t find the original warranty details, so seeing as I had traveled all the way from Scotland, I was given a new full 3 year warranty.
Ended up with a five for much cheapness with a full warranty, fitted with a few used parts. Drive chain is a consumable in my eyes anyway, it will either wear out or be broken.
All round great experience dealing with orange. I’d have an other in a heart beat. Just a shame the current ones in xl just dont do it for me at the moment.
dair86Free MemberI’m a big fan of Madison shorts. Not to expensive, can be found on sale most places. Also come with a lifetime warranty.
Tops, tech shirts here for me. Mountain warehouse ones are pretty food for the cash. Not really brand loyal but I did get some lovely endura tops this spring with a tiso voucher my Mum got me for xmas.
dair86Free MemberNot sure how long your road trip is or where you are coming from?
But if it was me a a group of mates I’d go with,
Dunkeld
Laggan
Aviemore
All off the a9.
You could then head over fort William direction, fort bill gondola laps and either head north to torridon or south to kinloch leven/glen Coe.
dair86Free MemberI was there last June, the only lift open at the time was the Brevent, rode the Charlanon. Bit exposed in places. Also rode the caillet hut route pedaling form the town.
Give http://www.chamonixbikeblog.com/ a wee look, also ZeroG shop in town is worth a visit for some local knowledge
dair86Free MemberWe use Google maps by sharing our locations with each other. I can see where my wife is and she can see me.
This works well for finding me while out biking for example or I can see that she is still in her office and that I can wait a bit before putting the dinner on.
Iv explained this to someone at work and they see it as stalking. I see it as a way for my wife to see where I am. She isn’t that familiar with the Golfie so if I didn’t answer my phone and hadn’t moved in a while she can alert the authority’s Visa versa if she doesn’t come home at her usual 6pm a d not a answeing her phone by seeing that she is in the office I can assume that she has been held up at work or dragged into a meeting
dair86Free MemberMy camelbak 3l, with about 1.5 l of water on its side fits fine. Just needs a wee fold at the filling hole end to make it fit.
dair86Free MemberListen to #070 Ben Cathro by The HKT Podcast on #SoundCloud
He has Santa Cruz UK paying for his flights this season along with all the sponsors of each video. Last year he self funded and got donations from patreon.
Met him alone once at Laggan on a Wednesday afternoon. Genuinely nice guy, I never cracked on that I knew who he was(not really into blowing smoke up someone’s hoop) I just asked him about his hightower he was riding and how he found it being a bigger guy.
I love the videos he does. As has been discussed his racers eye for a line is key to it. Although his previous videos of him just ducking about with his bike and drone we great. As was his series on building his van into a camper.
I wish him all the best with it all.
dair86Free MemberWatched the 1st and 2nd series of auf wiedersehen pet a few months back. Brilliant bit of writing.
Also tutti frutti from the late 80s. A show about a fictional rock and roll show band from Glasgow. Written by Jon Byrne stars Robbie Coltrane, Emma Thomson and Richard Wilson. Music and the one liners are brilliant. Probably one of the best TV shows the BBC ever made. It was famously only ever shown on TV once due to the rights on the music. Find it n DVD or online, you will thank me later
dair86Free MemberI bought one of these 2nd hand off gumtree
http://lynton.mybigcommerce.com/loadtrekker-se/
I paid 500quid, spent about 120 and a weekend on it.
New wheels and tyres
New lights and electrics. All worked fine when I got the trailer. I just wanted to tart it up a bit.Love it. Sits behind my Passat estate no bother.
Perfect compromise as the mrs said no to a t6.
dair86Free MemberAfter sleeping on it, some staring at it and some more coffee.
I have discovered that if I remove the plastic end covers, I can slide the wheel holders further down the bar, making the wheel base wider.
All good now, all set for some more adventures.
dair86Free MemberPost on Facebook from Rab Wardell suggests this video was 2years in the making.
Love this, one of my favourite bike videos.
dair86Free MemberLife long scout here. Joined at 6 as a beaver now 33 and still having as much fun as I did then.
It has taken me all over the world, all my best mates are scouts. Met my wife though scouts.
Currently a scout leader on a weekly basis, also I’m our regional network commissioner. As well as working at a national level here in Scotland.
Around 7years ago I got Scouts Scotland to pay me through my MBLA trail cycle leader ticket. Big perk of the scouts you get training funded for you. I also had Scouts Scotland pay for my b+e driving licence so I can tow proper trailers. Many of my mates have done the same with minibus licences.
Im just back from Scotland biggest scoutcamp with over 700 scouts camping for the weekend. I was running the mountain biking. We had over 70 kids out biking over the weekend.
Link here for info. https://www.highlandadventure.org.uk
dair86Free MemberBit of the KLF, Half of them were scottish. ill claim that.
Proper pop magic, Made a fortune and in true drug fueled madness burned a million quid in a scottish bothy
dair86Free MemberIv done this route in the winter for skiing.
I’d have a look at Revelstoke and Kicking horse/Golden. Both areas offer heli biking for maximum cool points.
I have a mate who lived in Revelstoke for a while and says the riding there is epic.
Weather is usually better the further east you are. West coast Canada can be a bit like west coast Scotland. Very un predictable and everything in whistler costs a fortune.
If it was my trip id do the bulk of my riding outside of whistler, then Finnish the trip with a few days in whistler.
dair86Free MemberThat’s mine arrived. Love it. Shall wear it with pride down that there Golfie tomorrow.
Brilliant work. Love seeing money going to the mountain rescue. They never get enough support in my eyes.
dair86Free MemberThis is brilliant.
Cheers for all the effort.
Shall be wearing mine with pride as i drive to the local trail centre in search of Gnar, with my Gnarpoon attached to my over priced German estate wagon.
Do we know the final figure that is being donated to the mountain rescue?
Thanks again.
