Yes, thanks re: Tredz – that’s where I’d seen the Haibike. They also have the Giant Fathom that’s available. I was just interested to see what people’s thoughts were re: power assistance. I live in a pretty hilly part of Mid Wales so some extra help up the hills would be very warmly welcomed

Thanks – sorry about the original post – autocorrect on a Fire Tablet is rubbish!!

I was looking at the Hybrid version of the Boardman – I think that it’s got a slightly different frame to the ADV version as yours has got a rear thru axle I think

How do you find the Fazua motor? How’s the assistance and real world capacity?

    thanks again

I’ve just picked up a Polygon Syncline from Go Outdoors – in stock, Shimano 12 speed and carbon frame. Might be worth considering?

    Thanks for all the posts

Looking through some old threads I see that someone had posted some pics of an S-Max showing bikes in the boot and had also linked to this site: http://www.rica.org.uk/features-reviews/out-and-about/choosing-car/car
which gives all the interior dimensions for the MPV’s that I’m looking at

Looks like an S-Max might well be an option

Eldest’s Voodoo 26er is 1400mm long with front wheel off – looks like that would comfortably fit into an S-Max with the 2nd and 3rd row seats folded, with one left up behind the driver on the 2nd and 3rd row

S-Max’s also appear to be more available

    Thanks all

    Thanks for all the suggestions

I think a Galaxy is looking favourite – looks like I can easily drop the 2 rows of seats and have driver plus one in the front, then 2 sat behind each other in rows 2 and 3 with at least 2 bikes alongside them (an XS 27.5 and a 24″ wheeled bike)

Just need to find a good one now!!

Before I go and search is there anything that I’ve missed off my search list? If needed, I can put my bike on a rack on the roof, as long as there’s enough space for the kids & stuff inside (golf clubs, trolleys, etc as well as being a bike transporter)

    Cheers

Not sure if they do an XS frame, but I’ve just picked up the Marin DSX 1 flat bar gravel bike – it might be suitable for what you want? 11-51 1X gearing, space for 2.1 tyres and it has good geometry (for what I was looking for – ie an “ATB” – quick enough to ride on the flat but more than capable for gravel riding)
It doesn’t feel “big” – I’m 5’8 and have the medium to which I’ve fitted a pair of “Geoff” bars

Got this quandary on my new Marin DSX. Marin apparently say that the rims are not tubeless compatible and neither are the Riddler tyres, but I’m thinking of just giving it a go. I only run the tyres at 40psi any way so I’m not running super high roadie pressures – I’ve done it previously on MTB tyres and rims without a problem so can’t see too much of an issue this time

    Thanks for all the suggestions

I’ve taken them onboard and used the useful info re: checking gear ratios & have found something that fits the bill (sort of!0

    I’ve just ordered a Marin DSX1: https://www.marinbikes.com/gb/bikes/2021-dsx-1

Thru axles, flat bar, in stock (!!) but only a single chain ring, but looking at the gear ratio calculator again, I shouldn’t be too far away from what I want and if it’s too much I can drop a couple of teeth on the chainring & try again.

I was looking for an ATB and I think this will fit the bill. Plus it’s a new bike & who doesn’t like “New Bike Day” !!

Thanks again for all the suggestions

Struggling to find much that fits the brief unfortunately.

Is it worth looking at a “gravel” specific frameset and seeing if the geometry would work with a flat / alt bar conversion? Possibly a size up, although I realise that this will bring other issues potentially ie seat tube length, etc

Does anyone know / have they fitted a double chainset to a Bootzipper frame?

I like the look of the Surly Ogre – a quick google check doesn’t show any framesets for sale though.

Thanks for the other suggestions but I ‘m really looking for something with the right geometry to run flat bars or alt bars – I’ve tried a few drops on the Toughroad and Dark Peak that I had, but suffer terrible shoulder pain after only short rides, so I’m not going to go down that route again

Anything else out there similar to the Surly? I’ve looked at Brother bikes and Stooge, but nothing there either

    Cheers

Loving the look of the flat bar version as a do it all gravel / adventure bike – just got to find some stock. Seems a cracking bike for £700

I already had the cranks from a previous build, but I picked them up from Ebay or Amazon (Can’t remember which, sorry)

It’s a square taper so fits to existing BB, no problem.

Cassette is a cheap Chinese one from Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0781DHGJG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Existing rear mech worked with a longer B screw

I haven’t set it up tubeless, but the new tyres are tubeless so might well do in the future – they’ll need schraeder valves though

Thanks- perfect for my Jones barred gravel / hybrid / rigid 29er

    He loves it!

Made a few mods – put a suntour JR crankset on with a 30t chainring and fitted a 40t cassette – makes it much easier for him now (it was 36t chainring and 36t casesste)
Also fitted some nice light weight Schwalbe tyres, but to be fair, out of the box it’s pretty well spec’d

He can pretty much climb most things within his skillset now and loves it – it’s a proper little mountain bike and, in my opinion, great value

I put 160mm Yari forks on my Vantage 2016 model (green) and it rode brilliantly. I stupidly sold and have regretted it ever since

There was a good thread on here last week about kids pedals.

I picked up these for my two ( 8 and 10) last week: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/PEWELR146/wellgo-r146-pedals
They are really nice and compact

We just bought the Rockrider ST 920 for my son. Have only got good things to say about it. Good quality frame, good components.
The only problem was trying to order one! They are over subscribed for orders so had to wait until midnight when they reboot the system and allow more orders to be placed

Just to add, I can confirm that the dropper post on the Rockrider is a cable operated Tranz X model 120mm & works well

I’ve just bout the Rockrider AM HT 100 from Decathlon for £749

It’s got a great spec: 130mm Sektor forks with Debonair shaft
    NX 11 speed
Sun Ringle 40 wheels with 2.6 tyres (tubeless compatible)

    Well put together

I’ve just bought some of the Wellgo R146 from Planet X for £20

    https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/PEWELR146/wellgo-r146-pedals

They are a nice small platform – I’ll let you know what they’re like when they arrive

I did exactly the same thing.
I bought a set of carbon exotic 26” forks with 420 a-c. They’re great and have saved a load of weight from the front end. Got a 2.1 29er in there at the minute

Thanks. I got confirmation from PlanetX chat that the frame will take a 2x front mech. Could just be what I’m looking for

    Hi all

I’m liking the look of this frame for a “one bike” solution – it looks as though it will take a front mech – is that right?

    Thanks

Onza were out of stock when I checked earlier in the week unfortunately, as they would have been ideal

    Thanks for that.
To counter that slightly, the order for my son’s bike was really easy, delivered on time and fully built and set up in the absolutely ginormous box – may have been lucky, but a pretty positive experience.
The only spec that I’m not keen on with the Rockrider that I linked to is the pressfit BB. I’ve never had one, but just reading the forum fills me with dread! Creaking, shortlife span, etc!

WE haven’t had Sky for a while. We had BT TV for a bit, but got rid of that last year after constant price increases.
We’ve now got Amazon Prime, Netflix and Now TV. I’ve also just signed up to Disney for the kids (and myself!!) during lockdown.
I like having the choice to pay for what I want on a monthly basis and don’t feel that we’re missing out at all.
The hardest part, as mentioned in the above posts, is getting the family to use the TV differently – ie everything we want is “on demand” as opposed to being recorded.

    I used these

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Solderless-Cable-Nipple-Motorcycle-Scooter-Bicycle-Quad-Boat-Car-Truck-Lorry-/254113042725

To achieve the same. I used the free end of the cable at the lever end with one of the solderless nipples. Makes adjusting the length really easy

I use a Bryton rider 10 on the gravel bike and I find it really useful. Only cost me £30 from Amazon warehouse, pretty much matches the readings on my Galaxy watch and I’m not going to be too bothered if it breaks if I crash.
Yes, it’s really basic, but that’s all I was looking for.
Also uploads directly to Strava so the bundled software doesn’t really worry me (although the phone app isn’t that bad)

    Hi
Had a message from a Mod to try and use the “Clear Out” section – just tried it and unfortunately it didn’t work either
Oh well, have to list it on some other sites, shame

I bought a pinnacle lithium frame from Evans, put on a Geoff bar from planet X and a deeply unfashionable deore triple chainset and love it! Some carbon exotic forks and some fast rolling Michelin 2.0 tyres and it’s great. It does my commuting, quick blasts after work and gravel duties. You’d have loads of change from £1000

Try Clive Powell bikes in rhayader? It’s not too far away over the top road and I’m sure that Neil or Clive would be able to sort you out
