probably do shave with fiendisly sharp, custom, hollow ground, damascus cutthroat razors. as for the arms… having done a little forge work you dont keep hair on your arms for very long!
countzero… caastrom stuff is really nice but i would phone them before you order anything and make sure its in stock, internet and real stock dont always tally! that said the customer service is really good. but i would really think about using that yew you have. once its shaped and polished yew can be stunning

countzero you should check out this chap http://owenbush.co.uk/ really nice stuff and some of the courses look really tempting. .. especially the damascus seax one

    Cheers countzero.
For the kind of handle you are looking at you probably won’t need too many tools. Saw for bulk shaping and then if you want to carve it I would recomend frost carving knife (be warned **** ing sharp) and a load of sand paper. Sealed with tung oil or linseed.
and check out english handmade knives for any pins, lanyard tubes etc

mmmm axes and knives, love hand made tools like that
countzero… i like handling knives too, this is one i did a while back, an ekland blade with a pere david antler (legaly obtained!) and bronze handle…

congrats its great and gets better 8)
if it makes you feel any better when mini vader arrived (3 weeks early) we had just moved house, 3 weeks previously. the house needed decorating throughout and that meant some serious work, i was under the impression i would have 6 week….
the day mini vader arrived we had the carpet fitters in and new bedroom furnature delivered. as i needed help putting the bed togeter and ditching all the rubbish me and mrs vader were on a mattres on the floor that night. of course it had to happen when the house was in a state with crap all over the place, i got the nudge and the “oooo i think we need to go”.
get home next day and phone a friend to help me sort the house out, put bed togeter, 3 tip runs etc. 5 years later i am almost finished the decorating

best bet imho is to throw it in the bin and boil up an inner tube instead! :D (can’t stand the stuff but have had to cook it a lot in the past)
on the other hand did you have the pan really **** hot. this is the best way to cook squid… hot and fast as buck said.
to stop it curling just use a fish slice to hold it down

jmc was one of the inspirations that started me riding and wishing i had even half of his ability. if only i had the money i’d be bidding on this instead of getting the carbon full sus thats in the future plans. and i’d sure as hell ride it as hard as i could.

Ive been after a decent camera for a couple of years but other things always crop up instead… now I have the go ahead from mrs vader for a new camera and a new bike… happy days!

Edit… are you in Germany molgrips?

5thelephant image stability (if thats what you mean), on reflection, is actually quite important. I have a permanent hand tremor which can be controlled if I really concentrate, but any help is always good on that score.
Whatnobeer I have been thinking along those lines (mostly to quiet mrs vader!!)

Drj cheers but am waiting for some cash to come in and im not too sure when that’ll be (solicitors and they’re crappy time frames)
I am now definitely getting brain melt from all the choices. Panasonic and olympus seem to br front runners atm….

Ampthill I have a trick with the kingfishers. .. a handful of maggots opposite where I am fishing and they always turn up for the small silvers it brings in 8)
I am going to have a look at london camera exchange in Winchester and see what they have, worth a shout?
I am liking the look of the Panasonic lumix atm…. but thats bound to change!!

i think that i will be driving mrs vader mad in the next month with near constant research, trips to camera shops etc.
looks like getting a base unit with a decent all purpose lense is the most sensible option and then getting another one or two once i am comfortable with the main functions. a course will probably be on the cards too

nice grum! looks like 4/3 is the way forward….
how trustworthy is the second hand market for lenses?

hopfully i will be able to get what i need/want and start taking some non phone pics :-)

    daftvader

i think it’ll be about £400 for the initial get me started kit… then once i get the hang of it i will look at extra lenses etc

    daftvader

cheers molgrips. may look for a small body slr for comparison. lots to learn and even more choice than i initially thought…. my brain hurts!

i am used to holding long things!!!
its just another tech minefield isnt it?

    daftvader

theres the thing, i dont mind getting a second lense with high zoom capability. it isnt going to be on there for the cycling side of things, but when i am out doing other stuff an extra bit of kit isnt going to be a problem.

hi rich… it will be for general pic taking. wildlife shots whilst out with the dog/fishing (have several kingfishers that regulaly fish next to me at my club lakes, buggers catch whilst i dont!!!). small enough to take out riding but with more control and better quality than a point and shoot. plus landscapey stuff when out walking. i dont really want to take a mahoosive slr around with a load of lenses and i dont think that i would use it to its full potential…hth

tore 3 ligaments in my wrist and had an op to “fix” them. was all going fairly well apart from the pain and being told off by the physio for riding this week… and OUCH! on the collar bone, heal fast…
