I live just over the border in Austria. I don’t know anyone directly but I have bought a frame from this shop and they speak english:
They are not directly in Kranjska Gora but thy might know who to contact.
dafoxsterFree MemberI sold my 2013 4×4 last year. It was great for us because we live in the Alps and we would often be on gravel or snowy roads going up the mountains.
We only sold it because it was not quite big enough for our toddler. Fuel consumption was never good even if I drove sensibly. The power was decent for overtaking although other people always tried to overtake us in silly places because they wanted to get past the “slow” panda.
dafoxsterFree MemberHi RoterStern
It seems like what you are seeing are Plugin Hybrids. BMW X5 plug in hybrids can have E at the end of their number plates. BMWs that are full electric have names with i, eg. BMW iX3. The fake engine noise is not played outside at speed in BMWs, but you can choose to have it internally(no idea why you would want it!). At low speed there are noise generators in many electric cars as a warning to pedestrians.
Here in Austria electric cars have green letters instead of black, but not the plugin hybrids.
dafoxsterFree MemberSilly mistakes. Should have waited until I was fully awake.

dafoxsterFree MemberThank so far. My son is with us in Austria. We wanted to keep the money in the UK in case he wants to study in the UK. Won’t change the will so some of you are correct that it is a red herring.
The problem I see is that if I leave it in the UK there is tax involved and I may have to file returns in UK and Austria which I want to avoid as I am currently on the equivalent of PAYE.
dafoxsterFree MemberThanks so far. I am in Austria so legally have to change to full winters for the winter. Car will come with 19 inch winters and 20 inch summers. There are a few places I have to use snow chains by law.
The manual linked is for the standard ID.4 not the GTX, so the advice there is not valid. I will get hold of the dealer and see if they have a manual for their test vehicles. I have no issue shelling out for 2 sets of chains but when I used to fit them to my Panda 4×4 it was a hassle doing all 4 in bad weather.
Edit: I have found from a US site that the ID.4 AWD manual also has rear only mentioned. And max size of 19 inch tyres for clearance.
dafoxsterFree MemberThe season started at my local resort in the Austrian Alps this weekend. I had a lot of fun in the powder. I have a season ticket for Carinthia and had to prove I had been vaccinated but it was quite easy at this site:
https://safe2ski.services.skidata.com/portal/
Masks have to be worn on all lifts. I ended up keeping mine on down the slopes too due to interaction difficulties with my normal mouth and nose covering. As it was still snowing the mask quickly stopped functioning because airflow was restricted by the moisture. I need to figure out a good system to prevent this.
dafoxsterFree MemberMy mother could not get the QR code to scan at all on her Android devices. I used and iphone and it worked straight away. Maybe as above, some devices need some perseverance.
dafoxsterFree MemberMy local Kia dealer(Villach, AT) now has the EV6 available to test. I didn’t get to drive it yet but I did get to have a good nose around on Monday.
For me it looks a lot better in the flesh. From the picture I always preferred the Ioniq 5 but now I have seen them both my opinion has changed. The cockpit feels premium and is very nice. The back seats were less comfortable than I expected, mainly due to height between floor and seats. There was plenty of leg space. My major disappointment is with the boot space. I have an E Niro which I have to give back in August and the boot space seemed less usable in the EV6. It is certainly deeper but the sloping roof cuts down on usable space. This was the 2WD version and the front space was just enough for some charging cables, which is fine, but I guess the AWD version is almost pointless.
Considering the E-Niro has been a little too small for our family uses I think we won’t now consider the EV6. We don’t need the performance and premium feel. The new EU MG5 comes out here in Q1 so I hope that suits our needs and can be delivered on time. Only thing it misses is AWD will would be preferred considering out local roads in winter.
dafoxsterFree MemberThe VW Aero B, Passat sized, was an estate as a concept car and I am really interested how this turns out. The saloon version looks quite large. I expect it to be expensive though with a price 10k above the ID.4. But I think we will see Estates especially considering how popular the MG 5 has been. And I will be testing the Euro MG 5 as soon as it is here early next year.
My ideal car just does not exist yet and I think I will have to wait for 2 or 3 years until it does:
1. Mid sided Estate (Octavia, Focus size)
2. AWD (Living in Austrian Alps with snowy steepish access to home)
3. Vehicle to Home/Grid (Once or twice a year we lose power for a day or two after a storm)
4. Tow BarSkoda has said they will produce and Electric Octavia in a few years so this would be perfect once they have the X version.
dafoxsterFree MemberIf its an i-size seat:
They must be rear-facing until your child is over 15 months old.
https://www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules
We used a rear facing for a long while and now my son is almost 3 we are using a Cybex Pallas G with Impact Shield.
dafoxsterFree MemberI looked at the VW ID.3 – I quite like the external appearance but inside it is all plastic, very basic seats (with no lumber support), and more- it doesn’t even have speakers in the back! They have basically stripped out the nice features to make it more affordable – or so it seems.
I have an ID.3 and I was worried about it feeling too plastic inside but since owning it for 2.5 months, it feels more premium than expected.
Yes the basic model has no support or speakers in the rear, but my higher spec version does.
dafoxsterFree MemberI had it in Jan/Feb. I was given an anti-viral and pregabalin. Mine was around my side.
It took me longer than usual to get over it, around 8 weeks. I tried to get on with things as best as possible. Luckily with a snowy winter and lock down I did not miss much!
I was perfectly fine by end of March. I did have a bit of a Pregabalin comedown which I tapered off of slowly.
dafoxsterFree MemberIt’s been a week since my VW ID3 Max was delivered. So far so great. I have a Myenergi Zappi installed and so far most of my charging has been from solar or from Lidl (free in Austria.) The car is so easy to drive and the internal space is impressive.
To get the car quickly I went with the Max version even though I wasn’t too worried about the toys. However I am enjoying the head up display and my kid loves the glass roof. Also travel assist is really nice when on major roads. So far the previously reported software issues have not surfaced, apart from the car taking a few days before it found 4G. Seems like this version of the software is much more stable.
dafoxsterFree MemberWhich apps bundled with chargers allow you to time when you want to charge?
dafoxsterFree MemberNow that I have the PV installed its soon time to get my first EV. We will get an EV in the Spring/Summer to replace the, now too small because of my toddler, Panda 4×4. Also the second car will be replaced in the next couple of years if it starts to leak money.
So the question is: Which home charger for 2 cars? I understand that we likely only need to connect 1 at a time and the second could just be connected by a normal plug but what options are there for a dual connection charger.
We are lucky enough that we already have a 3 phase connection in the double garage.
dafoxsterFree MemberThanks for the information. I checked my router and there are external Antenna connections. So first thing to try is the antenna. I know there are masts to the east and the west but it depends on the time of the year and the weather which is better so I will try an omnidirectional antenna.
I like the look of the MikroTik routers but I will try the simpler option first. Could also install on the roof because we have a window onto the roof with a platform where I can connect to. I can then use my existing Mesh network to extend down to the other floors and cellar. I will update on my results for those who are interested.
dafoxsterFree MemberMine has been in the LBS for 6 weeks. Apparently no kits in Austria. Quite annoyed!
Just a plastic ring. But the fundamental problem has no fix yet. That’s what I was told anyway.
dafoxsterFree MemberI’ll recommend where I am!
We have great lakes and great biking. Official local trails are limited but there are loads of good unofficial ones. Especially if you pop over the border to Slovenia and Italy where there are fewer/no restrictions.
I can recommend plenty of local trails if needed.
dafoxsterFree MemberI find if I say BBC first it never works. I have to say “Alexa play Radio BBC 2”. Then it returns with TuneIn BBC Radio 2.
Sometimes if this does not work I just say “Alexa play Radio BBC2 from TuneIn”
Edit: I am in Austria so the post before may explain why I have no issue.
dafoxsterFree MemberI live in the Austrian Alps and for the last 8 seasons I have taken the regional season ticket. However this year I don’t think I will take it. There is no easy way to social distance in lift queues and it may be even worse if they start allowing only every other seat to be occupied.
I am probably being over cautious but I am lucky enough to have options. I have a splitboard already but I plan to get a new one and enjoy the back country more than usual, closest route is 10 minutes drive. My son will also be too young to ski/snowboard but will be old enough to enjoy sledging.
dafoxsterFree MemberIn 2001 I won a competition about digital watermarking with Reuters. Prize was an all expenses trip with Williams F1 to Monza to watch testing. 5 star hotel in Milan and meeting Ralf Schumacher and Montoya. Incredible experience, got to walk on the pit straight and have dinner with Williams and BAR crew.
dafoxsterFree MemberThe fact it crashed will be reported more actively than just the number of signatures.
dafoxsterFree MemberElectrician is coming next week to install a switch. Thanks for information so far.
dafoxsterFree MemberI also recommend Thirtytwo boots for wide and flat feet. I too use an insole.
https://www.thirtytwo.com/uk/boots/
I am into my 3rd pair. When I moved away from Burton I must have tried 10 different brands across Austria/London/Dorset and Thirtytwos were the only ones I found comfortable.

dafoxsterFree MemberWe make a lot of South American food and find guacamole can be a good substitute for sour cream. (Although we normally have both). I make mine very simply with mashed avocado, lemon juice, garlic and salt.
dafoxsterFree MemberI live 40 minutes drive from Ljubljana airport, just over the border in Austria. I have not done much in Slovenia but my region of Carinthia is great if you want quieter family orientated resorts. A season ticket for the entire region is a reasonable price. Look at Nassfeld for normally great snow.
Kranjska Gora is a very nice and close to Ljubljana, but small in terms of slopes resort. The village is a reasonable size with a load of restaurants and views are amazing.
dafoxsterFree MemberI find that my OCD gets worse when I have the least to worry about. It feels like I find things to worry about and get fixated on them. I had CBT and found it helped a lot and now I don’t really have issues. We are expecting our first child in a months time and so now that I have lots of natural worries I find I feel better mentally.
I used to also have sleep issues but I learned that sometimes the next day I felt better after next to no sleep. So now when I cannot sleep I don’t worry about it because I realize that personally I don’t have too much of a correlation between sleep and how I feel the next day.
dafoxsterFree MemberI have a Whyte Glencoe. But I believe the Whyte Friston or Gisburn might be nearer to what you want.
dafoxsterFree MemberI can recommend the area around the Faakersee near Villach. I live here and it is a great area in the summer. Plenty of warm clean lakes. Faakersee, Worthersee, Ossiachersse, etc.. Plenty of Mountains around for hiking and Via Ferrata. Also Slovenia and Italy are within 30 minutes. Plenty of easy cycling along the rivers and cross country in the valleys.

dafoxsterFree MemberThere is something about Horse Flies this year! I was bitten once in my 38 years until this year. So far this year I have been bitten 4 times already. Once on the windpipe which was horrible.
Got bitten Saturday on my index finger and my hand was swollen the next morning! Bite was exactly as the OP described with two little bite marks.
dafoxsterFree MemberTake a look at Ljubljana airport. It is sitting on the edge of the Julian Alps. Lots of nice natural trails around.
dafoxsterFree MemberA friend bought this bike and seems to be fit the brief.
Edit: Sorry that is the 29er version but there are also 27.5 versions available
dafoxsterFree MemberBoth myself and my brother have these kind of eating habits. I annoy myself by always saying to myself, “just one more biscuit”, but I usually finish the lot. I am also fairly active so I manage to keep weight off but winters are difficult!
To control myself I rarely have any snacks in the house so I avoid the quick and easy binging. This means that I have to be very careful what I buy from the supermarket. I usually have a list with me and try and stick to this to avoid impulse buying bad foods.
My brother however is not active and is now dangerously overweight. He has now acknowledged his problem and is getting CBT but we are yet to see if this will help.
