yep, exactly that.
Called in to Evans this morning as I’ve found a big crack in my lid.
They told me to call specialized and gave me the number.
I called said company and they told me since about 3 months ago its now all done through retailers. I explained what Evans said and he just sighed and said they have been told about it several times.
I rode to my local concept store, showed him the lid, changed it for a 2016 version and paid the RRP less 40%. No paperwork, no receipt, nothing. In and out in 15 minutes. Excellent.
I asked about the receipt and he said not needed as long as the model is still current and/or the date of manufacture was still on the lid.
:)dabaldieFree MemberI’ll get all the parties insurance details on Monday and go back to my insurer and see what they then say. All I know at the moment is the “firestarters” insurance details and that the barn and the garage were insured through NIG. I tend to agree with BoardinBob on the principles.
We believe the fire was started in a campervan due to him running a generator! Don’t know why. The original report was he was welding, but not sure.As for the damage to the van, there is a large dent at the join of the roof and the windscreen which I have been told is usually fatal plus a few holes punched through the roof (double skinned).
Any ideas where to start with legal types? Google is a bit too broadbrush. I’ve emailed a few via their “contact us” pages but now I’m getting plenty of suggestions when I use facebook! Maybe Cookies aren’t such a bad thing!
dabaldieFree MemberJust to add a bit more info.
The garage did actually post on their page earlier in the year that they are not liable for any damage whilst any vehicle was in the yard due to the fact that it was leased.
Also the garage were actually closed when the fire broke out so couldn’t have moved it away. They even said that they would have moved it if they had been there.I’ll go back to my insurance company again once I have got the farm building owners insurance details as he happens also to be the landlord of the yard where the van was kept, and the landlord of the person who caused the fire. I think this is my best hope to get my insurance to claim against them (as it was their slates), and they can then claim against the motor mechanic who started it.
Full appreciate that it was in the “garage care” which is my main gripe, but their insurance does specifically state the workshop and whilst driving. Also as they were not around I cant see how they can be “negligent or at fault” which I’m guessing is what I’d have to prove…
If I go through insurance (and it all comes from my claim), they’d pay me £2.5K but premiums would be up for at least 5 years plus the No Claims..I’d still be a van down.
:(
dabaldieFree MemberThanks.
So just for clarity, I can approach the Trade Ex (fire starter) policy direct?
But would also be good to get the fire damaged barn owner’s insurance details? And go through my own insurance and insist they try and claim back?
dabaldieFree MemberI used to use BBS all the time via TELNET commands. Shadow in Illinois and Thanatos in Manchester. Its amazing how forums have moved on….hmm
Not a lot has changed although trolls hadn’t been invented then!dabaldieFree MemberMy local circuit so not missing this for anything!
Aiming to beat my 12 laps for 12hr solo on my Epic as I’ve now had more than 30 seconds practise on it. I broke my last bike frame on the eve of the race last year. My fave bike shop Clive Mitchell Cycles in Truro kindly lent me the Epic, which I then duly bought. Perfect test ride!
dabaldieFree MemberI did 13 laps last year on a bike that I’d only ridden for 20 minutes before after breaking my Kona and only spotting the crack on the Friday evening! 96miles. I’m aiming for the 100mile mark this year. Each lap is between 7 and 8 miles, so 50 minute laps. Naturally this depends on the weather. Id never ridden 12 hors solo before as I normally do teams or pairs.
Back on topic, you only need lights good enough for 2 hours before Midnight and 4 hours after and the course isnt too technical that you need max beam for any of it.
Best event of the year by far.dabaldieFree MemberSee you there!…. Midday start/Midnight finish for me tho.
If you dont ride at any othertime of the year at night, just hire them. You’ll get them fully charged and be way better than anything you can buy for the money.
I’ve got a 2012 Maxx-D which I’ll use for the last few hours but still toying with the idea of hiring one of the new Maxx-D’s mainly because they have moved on so much in the last few years.dabaldieFree MemberMy local Halfords both have notices on the tills that say the BC discount it ONLY for Cycling specific products, not tools (except cycling specific), or ANY other products. I had an arguement with them on the main till about GT85 the other day which until I pointed out that the majority of the stock was held in the cycling area they wouldntt accept.
dabaldieFree MemberAh, ok. Yes I knew that a Shimano cs needs different bb. Just thought you meant if I changed the 1250 to x9 or some thing id need new one. Thanks
dabaldieFree MemberWhy would I need a new bb? Can you tell I’ve never bought sram stuff before?
dabaldieFree Member5’6 with short legs. Ride a Medium Epic 29. First time I ever rode it was an emergency loan bike for a 12hr event (Bonty24/12). Fitted me like a glove.
dabaldieFree MemberFew issues there.
You can drive a vehicle to an MOT on a SORN (or expired Tax) as long as it is pre-booked even if the MOT has expired.
You MUST have insurance to drive it. I had just that issue a few days a go. I just phoned up my insurers and got the car insured for 24 hours for £20. It had a Mot but was about to expire. You cannot just drive it, even if you have insurance to drive another vehicle. It must be insured somewhere on a policy which states the Reg Number. If the garage drive it over their on their garage plates that covers the insurance, but technically they cannot allow you to drive it on their plates.
However, check with the insurer that they will cover you for an un-mot’ed vehicle as many state within their T&C’s that they will only cover you if the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition. The technical test for this is “does it have a valid MOT”. If it doesnt and you have a shunt etc then you will have to prove to them that the vehicle was roadworthy… probably by paying for a vehicle check/MOT etc.

dabaldieFree MemberTrout and Tipple. Just north of Tavistock on the A386 (road to Okehampton). Not sure its MicroBrewery, but certainly an historic CAMRA winner. (New owners tho)
dabaldieFree MemberOne of which, Dexter Hurlock, I ride with pretty frequently.
Dexter Hurlock? Never heard of him ;-)
To be honest I think we are spoilt down here in the SW with places like Gawton and Poldice to help hone those skills. There are a fair few riders (I wont mention names as their heads are big enough as it is) who smash those places to pieces and still race XC. To be fair, you cant tell what they prefer, XC or DH.
Its funny watching some of the top riders doing the Nationals XC’s at Poldice or Newnham and some of the expressions/comments we get regarding the fact that it should be an XC race…
I’ve watched top riders walking/running down lines that some of us do regularily on Hardtails. (I’ve now got a full suss, but only cos I’m getting older.. I’m still slow)dabaldieFree MemberThanks guys. Glad to see someone else uses xcracer too. :)
Playtime this pm then.dabaldieFree MemberI have 2.5L V6 Petrol. As everyone says above, watch for wheelarch rust, and coolant/temperature issues and you’ll be fine. They hold their value pretty well but are thirsty. I use mine as a dayvan for work and get about 25 mpg, 35 on a long run doing no more than 60mph.
The key thing is that if you have a 99 on version (mk 2), remove the rear bench seat (makes it 5 seat rather than 8) and you can get your bike straight in without doing anything, even a 29erdabaldieFree MemberI have 2.5L V6 Petrol. I have parked there many a time (once I asked and a store member looked dumbfounded and said I was the first person to have ever ask!!), but you just don’t know this time. Skullduggery is such a cool word! Hopefully the manager is a cyclist on our side!
dabaldieFree MemberGuys/Gals
I would suggest NOT parking in B&Q carpark without asking permission first as it is not a public car park. You could get clamped. All you need is one of the NIMBY’s working there and getting “many many fine men” clamped.
