Southern Spain. If you’re looking to go with a company you may struggle to find somewhere that will take you over Christmas though. Beware of the 3 Kings holiday too – at the start of the New Year, not sure on exact dates, but every shop will be closed for that…not a problem if you stock up on food.

There are some ‘eco’ buildings near me that have seedum on them – from the front they look like they’re derelict and have been left to rot (like a house that hasn’t hadn’t the gutters cleaned out for years)!
I’m all for modern looking buildings too, but in the above case the straggly roof looks rubbish above the crisp glass and wood below it.

Try a joinery manufacturer instead of a double glazing company.
I had mine made out of Accoya – that’s just a brand name. It’s actually just a softwood that has basically been pickled! Because of that it doesn’t shrink or expand much, so the finish lasts a lot longer. It’s supposed to last longer than oak and didn’t cost a lot more.

Dig a channel in the concrete…the tray will look much better! If everything is fitted correctly you should never need access to the pipe.

If you can’t afford new, just buy secondhand…there was a Max Daddy going for a £100 the other week.
I’ve had mine since they first came out and it’s been faultless. I use it for a lot more than biking too.

Thanks for posting. I’d just written a reply that I’ve had to delete. It made me more aware of some things I already knew, but seemed different seeing them typed out. 8O

I had a set of Tifosi’s that I much preferred over my Oakley’s. They fit and looked better, plus came with 3 lenses for about £30. Not sure on the model, but they were similar to Oakley Half-Jackets.
If you have a look around Mabie forest you might even find mine!

I’ve always used Formula’s sintered pads with no problems at all…their organic ones are another matter though.

As above, Aldi sell a range of I&G beers for £1.25. I wonder if the recommendation is the one I didn’t care for, can’t remember what it was called but it was 6.6%. It’s the toasted oak IPA that I’ve been clearing the shelves of!

I could tell you lots of crazy tales of steroid abuse, from folk taking bull steroids to Thai growth hormone (intended for who knows what), some having to queue with smackheads for needles, and having to have operations to remove gristle between muscles (quite a few of them).

All I will say is I think most of them are idiots. Those on the test look purple, and those on the GH are taking god knows what…it’s £170 a shot (too cheap) and most are going halves once a fortnight.

Again again; most people don’t use smartphones/gps etc. Many folk use front wheel mounted computers.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use their phone to track their rides, either with Strava, Endomondo, or similar (except the ones with GPS’s!). I tell a lie, maybe the one or two I’ve remembered don’t use anything at all.
Anyway, you can buy wireless bike computers cheap enough. :D

I’ve wrapped mine in insulation tape before (so it’s easy to take off again). There was no superficial damage, but I did wear the internals out…I didn’t use it a lot for bikepacking, so having a bag on it never caused it, but I don’t think the leverage from it will have helped.

One of these? I’m sure there will be some cheaper than S2S ones too.

Well, I’ve just been searching for an amusing picture of someone being gored by a bull…after seeing one where a horn went in by a bloke’s ear and come out beside his eye socket, popping his eye out, I’ve decided not to post anything up! 8O

Haha, did you live up to your name? I know I would have! I’ve been very wary and felt stupid for sneaking past a few bulls…none of them displaying any of the things you mention.

A carbon wheelset would certainly be a flagship product worth getting right…

…that can never lose the stigma of being SS. Whether the wheels are cheap for what they are, they’re still a fair bit of money.
I wouldn’t have thought anyone who spends 1000’s on their bike would want SS parts on it…saying that, I have seen a few!

OP, if you shop wisely and source all the parts yourself, you should be able to get a set for less than £700. If I was buying again I’d try WTB rims too, which are cheaper than Stan’s.

Another option, would be a set of the new Crossmax XL’s…I’m not a fan of factory wheelsets’, but would rather have them than what you’re contemplating. Someone sells new Crossmax Enduro’s (with tyres) for less than £600 on Pinkbike…maybe he could do the same deal on the XL’s?

My own thoughts on wheels are that rims are disposable items, at least if you ride anywhere that’s rocky.

Edit: just saw mention of SS’s free truing service? Do they pay for postage both ways? I guess not, and if not it would be cheaper to take them to your Lbs if you can’t do it yourself.

    ^ +1!

Why do you want carbon rims? If it’s for the bling factor, buying from SS is like buying carbon effect accessories for your car.

Edit: There’s nothing wrong with using SS if you’re after cheap parts, but £600 is £600…you could buy some wheels with CK or DT Swiss hubs for not much more.

Globalti – you want to test it before you go…feathers are made from the same stuff as fingernails (keratin), which breaks down over time.

The funny thing with down bags is that the higher the loft rating, the quicker it breaks down! I probably wouldn’t have bought as light of a bag as I did if I’d known that at the time.

If there’s any routes there they’ll likely be on Wikiloc.com.
It was a godsend to me when I unexpectedly ended up in the Sierra Espuna.

    and MissStripes kinda likes it.

Kinda means she doesn’t! At least when she tells you to shift the subwoofer you’ll be able to turn it into a new rabbit hutch. :P

I’d recommend a second-hand BSA Lightning. You should be able to get one with a 3-9×40 within your budget.

That’s what I started out with when I started to take shooting more seriously. I probably shot more with it than the fancy the pre-charged guns I moved onto!

You can’t beat a basic break-barrel rifle for simplicity. The only time I felt smug to have a pcp with a multi-shot magazine was when I was out lamping in winter…it meant I wasn’t fumbling about trying to load pellets with freezing fingers.

It is quite worrying. Facebook has started putting the (grownup) kids of folk who’ve done jobs for me, at the top of my ‘people you may know’ list – I’m not even friends with any of them on Facebook!? It must be using recent phone numbers.

The same with group suggestions – things are popping up to do with mental health…it either knows what I’ve browsed privately or is suggesting them because of a pdf I downloaded.

Andyl – it was in a carbon frame. The pitting was only apparent after the post had been removed and cleaned…it was as if a mixture of the corroded aluminium and carbon-grip had swelled where anything was etched. Luckily the post had just become tight and not stuck completely.

Edit: My experience probably won’t be a problem for the longer-legged – my post was as far into the frame as it would go…for anyone with more post showing, the logo and most of the writing will be out of the frame.

I’ve seen a Reverb that had become corroded only where the writing and logos were on it – it looked like the carbon-grip had some kind of reaction with it?! I wonder what the writing is actually made from? The pitting was so deep on the actual Rock Shox logo I was surprised a hole hadn’t appeared!

Update: Winning bidder was the bloke in Thailand. I had a few questions from him and he was willing to pay the extra postage. He paid instantly and all seemed well.

Woke up to a message from eBay showing the bidder has claimed fraudulent activity on his account…funny that he’s waited a day to do this.

Luckily for me, I had to wait a day for the courier to pick it up, giving me the chance to cancel.
Now I’m waiting to see if the online postage site I used will refund the £40 postage, or if I’ll have to claim through eBay!

The main problem when mounting a light low down is how long the shadows will be…not good off-road, but otherwise might be OK.

I don’t understand how a lot of folk are getting away with such low pressures. I used to like less than 30psi in my rear tyre, but have had to increase that after too many dings and pinch punctures (in the tyre). Less of a problem up front, but found the tyre wall creasing/collapsing just above 20psi. I only weigh 65kg too!

Edit: I’d like to know how accurate some folks’ pressure gauges are.

Suburbanreuben, I’m selling the contents of the case from Pulp Fiction! Actually, it’s some Shimano 9sp XTR stuff – I tried to sell on here, but no interest. Put it on eBay and within minutes offers and questions were flooding in!

I’ve sold a few things to folk abroad before, but to those with decent feedback or after they’ve told me why they want the item so much. I’d rather sell in this country when it’s something that will sell easily. After checking my settings, it actually shows up as UK postage only too!

Cheers. I think I’ve started getting this problem because I’ve posted the items up from the app – I’ve always done it from my computer in the past.

OP, if you’re using tubes could you not setup your wheels tubeless (ghetto if need be). Then use the tyres you have been, without the weight of the tubes.

I think Stevede had a point about weights too – I’ve used tubeless 2.35 High Roller’s (900g) on the back for years. Not many problems at all, when I have it was because they were too soft for the terrain.

I’ve recently put a 2.3 HRII tr exo on, as per previous answer, sliced it second time out. It weighs 830g, too light I think, and it looks like I’ll be taking it off – a shame too, as I think the tread works better than a normal HR.

Edit: Conversely, I’ve used standard, single ply, 2.35 Minion DHF’s, setup tubeless on the front for years. They only weigh about 700g and last ages! I live and ride everywhere in the Lakes too.

Have you thought of using a Maxxis tubeless tyre? Or even their tubeless ready ones? Saying that, I’m still not sold on their tubeless readies – second ride out on a High Roller II and I sliced the actual tread in a few places, riding trails I have ridden plenty of times before. Not sure if it was just bad luck or not.
