Some one once told me to use a disposable paper or plastic cup as a diffuser if your lights are too bright. I think I’d be a bit wary of a fire or getting molten plastic over my lights though.

Have a look on Bike and Bivi for ideas on food and anything else bivi related.
You can find out what I make myself if you scroll down to about half way on here. :D

I can’t believe the morons who say they won’t/don’t want to give money to the FE…who do you think owns the forests you’re riding in? Wouldn’t it be great if they thought they weren’t going to make any money and closed the forests to the public?!?

Oh dear, you had better watch out Elfin. The philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer mentioned
Schadenfreude as the most evil sin of human feeling,
saying famously “To feel envy is human, to savor
    schadenfreude is devilish.”.

Also hope you’re not religious, maybe you are going to hell:

The Book of Proverbs mentions an emotion similar to
that now described by the word schadenfreude:
“Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not
thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the
LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away
his wrath from him.” (Proverbs 24:17–18, King James
    Version).

    Lol!

It does you good…not so much laughing at others but to make you feel like you’re doing something right yourself.
I’ve had plenty of do-good’ers look down their noses at me, mainly due to the dodgy things I got up to in my partying days. I’ve always been honest though, I’m built like a lath and work hard. The same can’t be said for a lot of them!
If folk think I’m a nob for saying this, they can please themselves. :P

It’s a shame about the hub and the rest of the history with Emma and Tracey. I really hope they continue to make a living out of their skills courses and any other ventures they may have. To be honest though I’ve had better food, in better premises, on dodgy industrial estates! I’m all for the new cafe, god knows how they’ll make it pay though…it’s unbelievably cheap and has others have said, it’s always empty.
My only problem with the new place is the cutlery…old fashioned with swirly patterns on…even the cheapest, plainest stuff would look infinitely better in such modern surroundings! I may have a touch of OCD though?

Schadenfreude is what it’s known as in Germany. Roughly translates as laughing at others misfortune…it’s great!

It’s 190mm on mine, from the bottom of the silver collar to the middle of the saddle rail.
I got caught out with this. I got the seatpost while waiting for a new frame that supposedly had a 19″ seat tube…the ST was 19.5! I had to get a saddle with a low profile just so it would fit!

I once read a guide about this in one of the mtb mags, not sure which one though. I think it said to keep the batteries in the fridge…but like you, I have Exposure lights, so don’t fancy putting the full lights in there for fear of damp/condensation. The article also explained how much charge is lost over a given period.

I was going to do this but decided against it as I wanted a UK warranty. The way frames seem to break these days is it worth it to save a couple of hundred quid? It will cost that in postage if you have to send it back to the US. If you’re looking to save money on a frame you might has well buy second hand, imho.

I didn’t think the rivets were supposed to be tight, this allows for expansion when the rotor is hot.
Something to do with aluminium and steel having different rates of expansion/contraction when changing temperatures, I think?

Anything by Rose bikes…who comes up with those names?!?
TJ – the manufacturers with those double entendre model names probably wouldn’t see the likes of you as their demographic.

What are you putting back in the place of what you’re wanting shifted? If you’re getting someone in to do it, would it not be easier to let them dig it out?
I work for our family roadwork/groundwork business and do the kind of work you’re wanting done. The likes of ourselves would get the job done in a fraction of the time and would be less likely to damage anything. Plus there’s nothing worse than going to a job that is supposed to have been made ready and there’s still stuff to move or take away.
If you do it yourself make sure you don’t break any drains or go through any services. Know where they all are before starting. Any concrete up against the building should just come away if you start at the opposite side of the paths, taking more care the closer you get.

You don’t get it for free, you still pay the fiver for it but I don’t think anyone would sell you one on contract without it. Especially as most folk get BB’s for email and messenger.

The £5 BB fee is normally part of a pay monthly package. As far as I know it will need to be paid.

I’ve got 4 or 5 routes in that area and that’s not including High Street. Send me an e-mail and I’ll send you a snapshot of all the routes. You’ll be able to join a few of them up if you’re looking for something longer and/or more of an adventure! :-)

Get the thinnest merino you can get and wear under some sealskins. Well worth whatever it costs…you need plenty of space in your shoes though!

You want nothing with it Miner29er! There’s nothing wrong with normal descent off Loadpot Hill. Have you rode the backside of Ullswater as well? There’s a few decent rides around that area without having to make up your own.

Have you let the cat out of the bag with the “santa cruise past” comment? No?
I was going to ask if it’s a VPP bike. My Intense Tracer was terrible at first using the angular contact ones. I changed them to normal sealed bearings and they started to last a bit longer. Great bikes to ride, not to own. Might be great in sunnier climes rather than the UK!

From what Boxelder’s saying, it sounds like what I remember. Still, I wish I’d rode down it rather than up though!

    What’s happened to Gore’s ‘guaranteed 100% waterproof’!
It’s sickened me this…I bought a Fusion AS jacket a few weeks ago but haven’t used it yet as I got it to take on a biking holiday to Spain. I’ve already got an Alp-x Goretex waterproof, this I’ve had a couple of years, it’s washed after each outing and it’s never needed re-proofing (it has been used lots)! As for fancy cleaners, I use Sainsbury’s non-bio for all my biking gear.
If my arms get wet with the Fusion jacket I’ll be looking for a refund! I would have bought one made of eVent if I’d wanted something that needed careful looking after.

Even if the OP’s biking name is Stompatron, setting the PP to 3 especially on a DW link bike, should make it pretty much solid. I wonder if he hasn’t enough air in the shock so it feels more active? With the suspension set up on my HD(140), it’s definitely not smooth on the smaller stuff…get on some rougher terrain and it opens up nicely though! :)

    d45yth

Could something be wrong with the rebound on the shock? In my experience DW link are less prone to bob than a lot of other suspension designs…it’s the way the rotating links counteract each other, because of this they don’t even need a shock with any platform built in! I have a Mojo HD and the suspension is much firmer than my old VPP bike. I only sometimes flick the PP on if doing a long road section.

P.s. I think the bloke in your LBS has been sniffing degreaser!

Liking Electro Prog1, maybe could do with a sharper/shorter hi-hat? I’m not sure if yours fits the style of music?
I used to be into music production myself…I’ll learned a lot from Rick Snoman’s ‘Dance Music Manual’, some of it may be a bit out date but the basics on structure, chords and effects etc are the same. Well worth buying if you can get a cheap copy? There might even be an up to date revision?

Always eat 250-400 calories every hour (depending on your size/metabolism), especially on rides longer than two hours.

+1, the 605 is excellent, especially if you draw your routes in a separate program. Don’t use the garmin topo software or the 605 itself! I wonder if this why Simon doesn’t get on with it?

Smoke 200 Argentinean Marlboro Lights, the resulting cough and frog in your throat will make you think WTF am I doing! They were that bad, I’m not sure if they were proper Marlboro’s or some dodgy knock-offs? It’s making me wither just thinking about them!

I wrote this yesterday on Bike and Bivi:

    Hi,
I set off to from my house this morning with the trusty steed fully loaded to catch the train from Workington to Foxfield. The plan was to bike from Foxfield to Staveley, camp, then ride back home via Windermere, Ambleside etc. The closer I got to Workington I realised I wasn’t going to make the train! Mad dash to Harrington, the next station…saw the train going over the bridge, argghh. Nevermind I thought, I decided to follow any path I could along the West Coast. Whitehaven, Sandwith, St. Bees, Braystones, main road to Gosforth, Santon Bridge, Birker Fell (you bar steward!), Ulpha, Broughton in Furness…do I head to Coniston and camp or head for Foxfield to catch the train to Workington? Legs are shot, can’t imagine doing the same distance or more tomorrow. FI, Foxfield it is! I’m in the Prince of Wales pub, 3 pints inside me, sat in the corner with a 1000yd stare as I write this. Catching the train in 10mins and a mate is picking me up from Workington…pleased and sick with equal measure!
    Better luck next time, eh?

I forgot to say that I had still thought about camping and doing a shorter ride the next day instead (Broughton Moor and Seathwaite). The problem was that there wasn’t the train I wanted on a Sunday (any excuse!).
Over 80k done with over 5hrs riding. I’d set off at 9.50am, had a few stops for food and got to Foxfield just after 4pm.

    :D + :( + 8O +

I ride in minus temps myself, the rougher, rockier or softer the trail, the less of a problem with ice. It’s the hard, smoother stuff that’s dodgy…the descent off Carlside will be like a toboggan chute!
The Borrowdale Bash doesn’t gain much height either, a bit different to the top of Skiddaw.
