Hello again! Have sent any money through Paypal before? If so, next to the box where you type how much you want to send, there is another box where you select the currency. Change this and it will show you exactly how much you’ll be paying.

Get one, you won’t regret it…unless you end up snapping it off on some rocks that is! :D
I’ve had mine for months. I’d kind of forgot about it as it just does its job. The first thing you would notice is how quiet it makes things. It stops most chainslap, except on the real rocky stuff but I don’t think I’ve dropped the chain since fitting it. The shifting is a little bit stiffer but you soon get used to it, it doesn’t make it any less smooth.

Cheers, that’s what I was thinking of doing but I was a bit put off with the adaptor being made of plastic! 8O

Here’s a couple of links from the Bike and Bivi website:

OP – Have you thought of the Mojo HD140? You could use your current 150mm fork. This way you would have the option of changing it to 160 further down the line if needed?

Whatever recommendations you get here, they’ll probably be a Memory Map file for it here.

I’ve just bought a frame that’s designed for 650b. I think a lot of the appeal at the minute is that a lot of 26″ frames can accept 650b wheels though. I think they fit in all Fox forks that are for 26″ wheels too, these are better as it doesn’t affect the head angle much (as trying to user a 29er fork). In a couple of months the main fork manufacturers will be fetching out specific models. White Brothers and X-Fusion are already doing compatible ones.
One of the problems was the limited choice of tyres available, more and more are appearing though.
I wasn’t sure what fork to use but think I’m going for a Lefty…they work with 26″, 650b and 29″ wheels (the latter needing a travel reducer). I’m still not sure on rims but the Pacenti’s are looking good as I need something a bit sturdier than a Stan’s Crest. ‘Just Riding Along’ is the main place to get 650b related stuff in the UK. If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have bought my frame, which should be here next week! :D

I’ve always found the paint on Fox forks to be quite durable. Are you sure they haven’t had brake fluid spilt on them?

Pah, 29″ is too big and 26″ is too small…650b is where it’s at!

Technical ups and downs you say…should be a no-brainer, the Lakes!

What’s that ride involving three passes?

Put it in some water and see where the air is escaping from. It could be the bead, valve, a puncture or if it’s leaking around the nipples, there’s a problem with the rim strip/tape (If it’s not a UST rim).

Do a search for ‘bikepacking’ on here. There are lots of old posts about it. If you are going to take wine, put in a collapsible bottle first. I think a lot of bikepackers prefer to take a hip flask instead.

Nigew – thanks, but the parcel will be coming from the USA. I’m not needing to send anything from here in the UK. :?

Don’t do it…the extra money is great at first, then a neighbour will find out and the funny looks will start. It’ll get to the point where your wife will be too embarrassed to go to the corner shop/pick the kids up from school!!!

DaveRambo – the OP’s budget is up to £1500 for the frame not £5000!

You could get an Enigma. At least if it did crack you would be dealing with a UK company/builder.
Personally though, especially if you’re riding smoother stuff or covering longer distances, I’d go for a 29’er…Enigma don’t do these in Ti yet though!
I’ve got a Litespeed hardtail, picked it up S/H on here, got it shot-blasted and bought new stickers…Everyone who’s seen it thinks it’s brand new. It cost £25 for the shot-blast and £7 for the stickers! Fair enough I haven’t got a warranty but if it breaks I’ll just buy another S/H.
If I had the money I’d love a Moots MootoX YBB but would want custom sizing and the seatpost/stem they do. It would be around 4 grand I think! 8O

Have a look on ‘Wikiloc’, it helped me find plenty of mtb’ing routes when I was last in Spain.

I think the other posters don’t know about the EX’s. I’ve the normal Arches and wish the EX’s had been available when I bought them.
If it’s a trail bike they’re going on get the EX’s…a bigger bike then the Flows. The normal Arches are holding up fine on my Mojo HD140, I’m slightly heavier than you and don’t treat my wheels kindly.

OP – If you look in the general chat on Bike and Bivi I’ve a post on there called “My Bike with Bikepack Bags”. I struggle to post a link when using my phone for this, sorry! In short though they are quality and very big…mine’s a medium and it’s still cavernous! The price is right and no import tax either.

Richc – the new price is more like 2.5k with the Kashima shock. They still cost a lot less than what folk spend on cars though and I know what I get more enjoyment from. Saying that, these kind of frames with top components and you’ll be talking 6-7k! I wouldn’t buy a bike from the States either, I prefer the piece of mind of a UK warranty.

I’ve a HD140 and I’m always wondering what it would be like at 160. I’ve read about people changing from 140 to 160 and wouldn’t go back (on MTBR’s Ibis forum). I’ve heard one of the best setups is with a Rockshox Monarch RT3 and a Lyrik fork with the 170mm DH damper. The problem with this, for me at least, is that it would be too much bike on the smoother stuff and/or trail centres. I could keep on changing the shock and fork over but it would be easier having separate bikes…My 140 is a hard hitting trail bike, the other setup could get me into trouble quickly. Lopes races DH on his, I’d be needing a full-face and pads!

I wouldn’t use a guide in the UK because I know where the best places are for natural riding and trail centres are waymarked. When going to places I haven’t been before I still have the routes on my GPS, this way I don’t waste anytime navigating.
On trips I’ve had to Spain it was good to be guided so they could tailor the riding to match fitness and technical ability. Morocco was riding across mountains from A to B for five days, this isn’t something I would have wanted to do or plan by myself.
By the sound of things you may benefit from a guide wherever you go. Find a recommended trip by folk on here and go for it! You ask how do you know where the best places are…read up on it, you’re on the internet.

Unless you’ve got no one else to ride with I would have thought you could do any trips in Britain self-guided? Especially if you’ve got a GPS, there’s loads of routes posted on the internet and you should be able to find accommodation to suit any budget.
Unless you’re only looking at a weekend away a lot of UK trips are as expensive as foreign ones…at least you would have the chance of better weather if you go abroad.

Nice bike but I don’t understand this whole 1x thing, especially on a 140!?!

Mine on tour in Morocco last week!

barn – I went with Freeride Morocco. I already knew the guide/owner from a previous trip to Spain. We started in Imlil and biked to different accommodation each day. The van carrying our spares/luggage would meet us halfway on each ride and the driver/cook would make us some lunch 8) . I’ll definitely be going back, especially if I could take a different route…it wouldn’t matter if I couldn’t though. We finished the trip with a couple of days in Marrakech, this was a bit of an eye opener as I’d never been to an Arab country before!

P.S. Anyone thinking of going to Morocco should take plenty of toothpaste and mouthwash…the mint tea is very slurpable but has enough sugar in to turn your teeth into decaying stumps fairly quickly!!! 8O

Top priority is the riding and the terrain for me – I want a week of riding stuff that’s totally unforgettable. The kind of trails I think about months after the trip has ended – or basically until I return the year after. Then hosts, guides, grub, weather and accommodation.

+1, if the terrain doesn’t test your fitness/skill level you’ll be left wondering why you went. Find out about the area first, then if anything else isn’t up to your expectations at least the riding will have been good.
I just got back from biking in Morocco yesterday and can definitely say it was one of the best holidays I’ve ever had, biking or not. The accommodation was pretty basic but when you’re crossing mountains and staying in gites you can’t expect anything else. If you’re used to five star hotels don’t go, for me though the gites and the hammams that went with them added to experience (interesting/funny in equal measure!).

I don’t know about upgrading the internals of the actual unit but I do know USE do trade-ins. I’ve no idea what the costs are but was thinking about it myself.

I’d considered one a while ago…I bought a s/h, different brand ti frame instead for similar money and shot blasted it so it was like new. Don’t know if I’ve done the right thing now after seeing all these cracked ti frames! At least if I’d bought new I’d have a warranty!

I’ve always found Winstanley’s to be spot on. Anything that hasn’t been in stock when I’ve ordered it has come quicker than it says on the site. They’ve always got back to me quick when I’ve asked questions too.
For Chris King parts, is anybody cheaper in the UK?

You just need a post to post adapter for whatever rotor size you’re using then. It still doesn’t touch any carbon though.
