A few pics from a trip to the Scottish Highlands this weekend. Amazing trip! Hope you’re better soon.

It’s took you two years to post it up?
I’ve been out there myself, best holiday experience I’ve had!

Hi Andy, hope your back sorts itself out. You missed a great weekend, it was good to catch up with the Moroccan group.
To answer your question though, look here (on STW). I already answered the same question just the other day.
Anyway, I think Mark is planning another couple of trips throughout the year…maybe see you on one of them? :-)

Some folk can take offence to it. A small outfit that does a decent job and is reputable should give their best price in the first place. If you asked for a discount and they knocked you a chunk off would you not feel like they had been trying to rip you off?

I had this same dilemma early last year. I couldn’t make my mind up between the Nomad or a Blur LTc. I went for a HD instead so that I had the option of building two different styles of bike setting it at either 140 or 160. I have it set at 140 with a 150 fork, it’s my main bike so 160 for my general riding would be a bit OTT.

A lot will depend on how you expect your suspension to work and what bike you’ve been used to riding previously. I came from using an Intense Tracer (VPP) which used its travel more readily than the DW link HD. To be honest I wasn’t sure if I liked the change but now I wouldn’t go back. It isn’t as smooth on the smaller stuff but it soon opens up on rougher, rockier terrain. I prefer this as with it being my main bike it doesn’t feel like I’m too over biked when at a trail centre or such like. With me living in the Lakes though it works out well for when I’m riding rougher, natural trails.

Have you looked on the Ibis forum over on MTBR? I think a lot of the Yanks are using Rockshox Lyriks on their HD’s. I don’t know how far you are from Cumbria but Whinlatter Bikes in Keswick have the HD’s on demo. Biketreks in Ambleside should be able to sort a demo on a Nomad too.

I bloke I work with had to move out of his rented property due to not cutting the grass. He’d been given plenty of warning to get it done too…nugget!

Warrenpfo – If you’re in a 100k+ job you’ve done well for someone who doesn’t know what a comma is! I’d be surprised if you don’t become light-headed while talking, due to the lack of oxygen.

Clong – Regarding the fellas incident with the flat tyre. I seriously doubt that a legal air rifle would puncture a car tyre. Not saying it didnt happen, but sounds like it was a lot more powerful that 12 ft/lbs.

So you don’t wear them for anything else but running!

Too be honest, I’d get it done at the nearest engineering/fabrication place. They will do a lot tidier job than you would do yourself with a jigsaw…stainless steel work hardens and can blunten your tools very quickly.

650B Palace lists four Voodoo frames as being compatible, the D-Jab isn’t on there…but am I right in thinking it is a Ti version of one of their other models?
Have a look on MTBR’s 650B thread too, if you haven’t already that is.

You’re posting this on Singletrack, not Dirt or MBUK. I think most folk on here appreciate a bit of everything, not just the descents.

What difference does it make if you get a bargain yourself? Especially if you didn’t know about the offer in the first place.

Hi, I can soon send the GPX if you want but the top part of Whinlatter is footpath and not much cop either. You would be better off going on to the other side and over Grisedale Pike. The other option would be going to Keswick and doing the Borrowdale Bash, you could then turn off at Portinscale and ride up to Whinlatter…I suppose that would depend on your fitness though.

Have you done much riding in Grizedale Forest and around Coniston? You could tie the two together if you’re wanting a trail centre/natural mix.

If not, then you may find the GPX files aren’t much use as it may be trying to constantly guide you back to the track.

:? Is that not the point? I’ve been using a GPS for years, putting over folks’ routes on it and following them. I don’t think the OP would be asking for routes otherwise.

“Is that a downhill bike?” was shouted at me by some teenagers when I was riding a hardtail with fully loaded bikepacking bags! :?

Mark N – Check what the holiday insurance company means by Mountain biking. Theirs may not be the same as yours.

+1. I think most insurance companies work on a level from 1-4 that rates activities by risk. They’ll see DH’ing as a lot more dangerous than normal mountain biking.

I bought an unusual frame from the US a few months ago…the postage was more than £150 + VAT. If it was something I could have bought over here in the UK, I wouldn’t have bothered.

Don’t know about making the best sandwich but those of you that use a shared fridge might want to consider these:

You would have to make sure someone didn’t throw your sandwich in the bin though!

My dog used to inject his own special recipe grease into bearings. The last time some of the ingredients were delivered by parcelforce though, this happened to him!!!

I’m pretty sure they can only go back three years…my dad had a similar issue when building a house on where he used to keep wagons.

Depending how much over the speed limit you were going, you might just have to go and spend a day in a classroom. Well worth it if it keeps the points off your licence.

Glenh – It depends how much your bike is worth. I think a lot of folks bikes on here will have pedals costing more than the tracker! I guess you would have one of these as well as insurance if your bike is into the thousands.

Kaesae – Integrated Trackers sell them, they’re based in London.

OP – What do you mean by it being an enduro? Will it not just be how many laps can ve done in the said time?
The eight hours could be a good and make more folk try it solo…I for one wouldn’t fancy twelve hours, but eight could be achievable.
Someone said that the Strathpuffer lite could affect numbers. Hell, they’re miles from each other. I’d like a go at the ‘Lite but I wouldn’t drive all the way up there for it.

The closest would be some Ragley Carnegies in carbon or the new Answer 20/20’s.

A lot of the best ‘on the bike’ footage is taken when the camera is mounted to your chest. I don’t think the Drift lends itself to that very well. Wearing a camera on your helmet just leads to shaky images.

When are you planning on going? Its been dry here the last two days though. Anyhow, it’s not the kind of trail that covers you with claggy mud, it’s more of mud spray!

What frame have you got? All Fox forks work with 650b, not sure with what tyres though. Have a look on the 650b thread on MTBR and the 650B Palace website…I think both have lists of what frames and forks are compatible.

I think it should be stated that ‘Grisedale’ as in Grisedale Pike, nr Whinlatter and Grizedale, as in Grizedale Forest are two totally different places. Can be confusing for Cumbrians, let alone anyone else.

I think it stinks! I used to love the finish line stuff from years ago that came in an aerosol, it smelled like pear drops.
