Beef, tomato, spinach and spring onion in a warm, wholemeal pitta bread that’s spread with green pesto. Also nice with chicken in place of the beef. :-)

I’ve had mine since they first came out and wouldn’t have anything else (when using a Joystick as well). I know there are brighter lights out there, but as an all-in-one I can’t fault it. With it not having wires and an external battery, you’ll end up using it for more than biking too.
The newer ones are brighter than mine and have the ability to charge other gadgets from them…I wish I had the funds to upgrade!
The only thing is, if I only had the money for one light, I think I would have to go for something that I could mount on my helmet. A mate has a Lupine Tesla that is quite versatile and Troute’s lights are nice too.

I haven’t encountered anything I can’t keep a 60rpm cadence going for in 34t 11-36t yet, and that includes the alps.

Yet you would be quicker and more efficient with a higher cadence.

Great news! If I lose anything I don’t expect to see it again. Although it probably wouldn’t be to the value of your light. :D

I think its got to be the wheel…if it was the swingarm, surely the wheel would move with it. There’s no way there would be that much deflection if the bearings weren’t seated right, especially with chunky stays like the HD’s.
Like Druidh and Rickmeister have said above, it could be a spoke protector/spacer too. I’ve seen that problem on Mavic Crossmax’s.

agentdagnamit – That’s not what I meant, I was on about the basic accommodation…they’re gites and although some were better than others, they were very basic.

Jota – By the sound of things, I don’t think a point-to-point trip in high mountains would be best for you. You’d be better off being in one place where you could tailor you rides to suit you. Looking back on our trip we were knackered every night, if we’d all had a couple of beers we would have been falling asleep in our suppers!

A pic of a village, taken from the roof of one of the gites.

Jota – You would have to pick some up at the start of the trip but that would depend on what time your flight got in. The only other thing I could suggest would be to get some spirits in the duty-free. I like a beer myself but didn’t miss it in the mountains…one of our days was nearly uphill all the way. I wouldn’t have wanted to have done it feeling slightly rough. There were bars in the bigger hotels in Marrakech, we only ended up there at the end of the trip though.
I don’t know how much you like to drink of a night? I know I’d be mad if someone on a trip got a skinful every night and was suffering for it. The altitude and the heat make it hard enough as it is.

Depending what kind of trip you’re after, you could travel across the Atlas mountains for 5 days with Freeride Morocco. Then have a nice, non biking weekend in Essaouira.
The accommodation in the mountains is very basic. If you’re travelling with your other half though, staying in a nice hotel in Essaouira should make up for that.
I went for the riding but whole experience was more like an adventure. The fact we were roughing it just added to that. We didn’t have to use a vehicle for the 5 riding days but the van carrying our gear would meet us for lunch. If you were worse for wear, had a mechanical or were injured you would have been able to get in and go to the next nights accommodation…no one on our trip had too though.

Have you looked on the Ibis forum over on MTBR?

It might be what city dwellers have to resort too…myself, I’d rather have my own animals and a veg patch!

you can spin the axle round until you can access the bolt.

It might be easier taking the wheel out to do this but you shouldn’t need to really. The pre-load adjuster is fixed to the axle, which will turn when you loosen the maxle off.
It’s a 2 second job tightening it up. If you really can’t see how to do it, take it to your LBS.

There’s absolutely no need to take the rotor off…you can spin the axle round until you can access the bolt. Once you realise where that is, you can put the wheel back on with the bolt in that position.
It’s much easier doing it with the wheel still in the bike, you probably won’t be able to tighten the pre-loader the required amount by hand either. Tap the allen key a little, like I said above.

You should just be able to undo the maxle lever (no need to unscrew). Loosen the 2.5mm bolt on the non-drive side of the hub and tighten the pre-load adjuster…it’s usually easiest to put the allen key in the bolt and tap it to do this.

EDIT: Just realised you might not be able to access the 2.5mm bolt. You might have to turn the pre-load adjuster so you can get at it.
Any instructions for Chris King products are on their website too.

How do you wash your bike? The fact you say the non-driveside seems to go first, makes me think you could be blasting water in…it’s normally the driveside that wears out first. Your chainset could be protecting that side from water spray though.

The bags you speak of can be quite heavy…I think my tent weighs about the same as one! I would’ve recommended the Alpkit ones too, some of the other options are quite a bit dearer.

Ask in Wheelbase if you’re starting at Staveley.

A lot will depend on what you’ll be doing after the rides. Beer could affect your plans if there isn’t much to do in the evenings.

Only change them if you’re not happy with them, never mind what anyone else thinks! I’ve a set of the last XTR ones and love them on my bikepacking bike. The only time I don’t like them on rough descents, as you can accidentally change gear while braking. I would never put them on my trail bike due to that.

I’m sure you can get the bits you need in one of those self-build brick BBQ kits.

Have a look at where the bushing touches the hub…has the anodising wore off and you can see bare aluminium? If so, buy a Hub Doctor kit off Ebay. If there’s no wear or it’s only slightly worn, I can soon sort you out with this freehub I’ve got.

Yeah, it is. I was going to say that it might already be on there, I found this instead though: Link.

Looking tidy rudedog! What size bag is it on your handlebars, an 8ltr?

For anyone wanting Revelate gear, you can order it from Veloista in Switzerland to save paying any import tax.

There’s no reason why it won’t. A thing to watch out for is whether the tyres will fit in the tracks…you definitely don’t want Mont Blanc ones if you’ve got wide tyres.

I’d ride it cracked and see how it goes, unless it’s fubared already?
I did the same on a trip to Spain. I made a pencil mark at the end of the crack and kept checking to see if it had got any worse after the descents. It might depend on how much of a hucker you are though?

I don’t think it’s anything to do with the pawls…it’s more likely to be the freehub, often the hub is worn under the freehub bushing too. Look on Ebay for the Hub Doctor kits, cheaper than a new freehub! If you do want a freehub though, I can sell you a new one for half price with some pawls too (£20 instead of £40).

You can do this with Dave Yates

You’re meaning building the frame though, aren’t you?
I think the OP is meaning building up a bike from a frame and parts you’ve bought?

Depends on headset really…Chris King and some Cane Creek ones you just change the crown race. Not sure about other brands.

A lot of it comes down to your power to weight ratio rather than a certain technique. Look at the classic cycling physique, skinny with big legs.
If you want to get better at them, do lots of them. A lot depends on where you live to be able to do this. I live in Cumbria, so finding a hill isn’t a problem!

Once it’s dried, I don’t think you can get it off completely.
I was once on a biking holiday in Spain and coming to the the end of a rocky descent, the back tyre blew. The Stan’s spoodge had covered the back of my shorts, the next thing we heard was a donkey e-aw’ing at the side of the trail. Everyone took the p£$s and said the donkey had being trying to mount me! The stains are still there and I only use the shorts as spares now. :D
