OP – If you’re meaning something with the same travel and available as frame only…I have an HD funnily enough. I would always choose a carbon frame now, at least when spending a couple of grand. If I’d been after a 160mm bike, I’d have got a Nomad C (my HD is set at 140)
I met a bloke last week with a Liteville 301, that seemed a hell of a bike and after reading up on it, it seems others agree.
Nicolai’s are good and plenty of models to get exactly what you want. They’re in another price bracket though. I would only pay that for aluminium if it was something I was keeping for years. I say that with every bike I get but seem to change every two years.

Quite a few manufacturers don’t recommend Ti, whether they think it’s flexy or can snap, I don’t know.
I’d recommend the Fun Bolts anyway, although my new frame has a 12mm axle.

They’re £2099. Weight a none issue too? I’d need one in large, that would come in at 7 lb 12 oz, FT! I don’t know if that’s including the shock or not. You could get a frame just as capable, with a coil shock fitted, that weighs less.

Have you seen the weight? I wouldn’t ride one if you paid me.

I’m surprised at the praise on here, although a lot of it’s for older models. I’ve heard terrible things about the MT range, especially the higher end stuff.

Just look on the Park website. There are plenty of ‘how to’ vids on Youtube too.

Pretty sure it can’t be done. Your lefty just won’t go into the tube with room for a bearing(if at all).
Why bother commenting on something you know nothing about?
Ben – For it to work, the length of your headtube + headset must be less than 137mm.
Have a look at this link (here on STW).

Think you can do the double in less than 34h 27m? Do it as an ITT. Check out Self-supported UK[/url].

Why do you expect to find ‘matte’ black? Headset spacers are anodised, not painted. 😕

Look into the Od-pod too, it cradles your bike from the BB shell which makes it better for tweaking gears/oiling the chain.

Jambalaya – There have been quite a few posts about Lakes weekends/rides in the last month.

Whereabouts in the Lakes are you heading and what length of rides are you looking for, either in time or distance?

Can you even varnish something that’s been oiled? I thought it was one or the other?

RayMazey – Although many people may think being a really good rider is of paramount importance, in my experince this is not really the case. Although can be useful at times (depending on group dynamics). Far more impoprtant is your group management / coaching skills, people skills and risk assessment.

Too true. The guide needs to know and cater for what the group wants/needs. I’ve been on a few guided holidays and found that it’s very hard for the guide to provide what everyone wants. The bigger or more mixed the group, the harder it is.

How did you post that if you are benned?
Rob does not understand, but Rob forgives you.
If you look at his last posts, you’ll see that he’s served his sentence already.

For those of us that are enthusiastic about biking, read biking publications and/or frequent the forums. What are we expecting to see that we haven’t already? We’re on here criticising, myself included and now I’ve thought about it there’s not much they could show that would interest me. Highlights of certain races is always good, but you can get all that online.
It really was sending me to sleep last night, so at least it was good for that.

Have a look on the Cyclewise website…even if you don’t do your training with them, there’s external links to other info.

You can only use the pop/push lock’s on the forks that were designed for it. If it’s advertised without, it will have a lever on top of the fork…the others have a hole and fixing point for a cable instead.

Using time as an indication of wear is ridiculous. You need to go off distance.

I have a Maxx D and think it’s excellent. The fact that it’s an all in one makes it that easy to pop it in your bag and take with you, so much so that you’ll end up using it for more than biking. The new ones have the ability to charge other gadgets from them too…this would be great when away for weekends or camping.
The main advantage for the R4 though is being able to wear on your head. That doesn’t bother me though because I use a Joystick as well. If I only had one light for off-road riding I probably would choose a helmet mounted one.

a weekly “What tyres for…” segment
Hell, they’d have to make the program longer for that. Then it really would send us to sleep!

The most painful thing is the interviews. So forced and unnatural and just plain dull.

Another one for interviews, some of the writers who’ve done books about touring would work, as they have stories to tell
Don’t be so sure of this. I went to a bike night at the KMF a couple of years ago, I was going to buy a book off one of the blokes speaking…after hearing his most boring stories, I didn’t bother. He just about sent the entire audience to sleep. I don’t think a single person asked a question at the end.

I changed over to Shimano after thinking the Sram ones didn’t last. I use XTR and would expect to more than a 1000k on one.

Whichever you chose, I don’t think Merlin can be beaten on price.

A lot of the Yorkshire Dales would fit the bill. Mud and gates are something you’re going to get just about wherever you are.

How many local bike shops can you actually test ride a bike, ie give it a good off road hammering, rather than a pootle round the car park for 5 min to try it for size?
A lot depends on whether the bike belongs to the shop or the distributor. For most high-end brands you should be able to get something for a day, if not the weekend.

Regarding buying blind though, you’ve to watch out for more than just size, especially if buying a full-sus. Depending on what you’ve been used to riding before, the feeling of the suspension can be a lot different. Things like that can mostly be sorted out with a shock tune, but it all adds cost.

Don’t be afraid of ordering from Germany. I’ve had better service from places over there than most online UK shops!

All this mention of having to wash certain materials often makes me laugh. When I have to wear any waterproof gear, the trails end up muddy…I don’t think I’ve ever wore my jacket and not washed it/had to wash it after a ride.
I suppose it might be different for road bikers and commuters.

I can’t say what I’d like too about OIAL without fear of a ban. Best avoided in my opinion. He’s too temperamental and I can’t be bothered arguing with someone who doesn’t realise the apostrophe is 3 keys away from the comma.

Have I got a setting wrong somewhere?
You need to turn automatic routing off. It’s not very reliable either, it’s a good job you knew where you were going.

Top up sealant and look-up puncture plugs. Be thankful the hole’s between the tread, the ones you can get on the edge of the bead are the ones that are tricky to fix.

The one on the classifieds has been for sale for a while. The two that were for sale the other week were insurance replacements and the bloke had bought some other bikes before the insurance came through.
I used to have a Tracer Vpp. It was a great bike to ride but was flexy, used to eat bearings and it cracked. I’d always told myself I’d never have another…then the Carbine came out (not long after I’d bought a HD). I would have been sorely tempted if it had been out when buying a new frame. The bearings have been improved and maybe the carbon has sorted the flex out. I think the RP23 is the wrong shock for the bike, a Manitou ISX-6 is the one it needs (if staying with air).

It’s a bad idea putting a fork on frame that is longer than it was designed for, especially an older one.
You’re not so much under-forked, more like under-biked.

I used to use Reason. I used to love it, I think that was with coming from a hardware background though.
