Seat clamp will be too tight…seen the same problem a few times before. Use friction paste and don’t do it up as tight.

so depends what you are doing it for-??

I’m wanting a total career change…it’s not easy to go into something else without the relevant qualifications. That’s the main reason for wanting to go, the total change of my daily routine by going there will do me good too.

Junkyard – Yes, I’d be paying and I wouldn’t be wanting to go if I thought I wouldn’t pass. I pass the UCAS points rating for the course with my GCSE results alone, that’s why I’m surprised by the sudden mention of A-levels. Especially as there’s places on the course, if there were loads of folk fighting to get on I would understand them giving the places to brighter students.

    I hope that’s the case. 😆

Ah, that may be why I’m still getting an interview. I’d mentioned some of the things I’ve done in the past/places I’ve been. I just haven’t got qualifications in them.

    Thanks!

Trans-Provence route or road touring…hmmm, let me think about that for 0.000001 of a millisecond.
Sack your mates off and do the Trans-Provence! I’m being serious too. You can go road touring anytime, quality organised events you can’t. Oh, it’s mountain biking too!
You knackered on a road tour: 😐 or 😡 or 🙁
You knackered on the Trans route: 🙂 or 😀 or 8)

Thanks, it’s not me who’s going. I’m doing a bit of research for someone who’s coming from abroad.

Like Helios, I only got so far through series one and found it boring. A mate has lent me the full collection too! I’ll start watching it again now the nights are closing in.

Loddrik – Could probably cut it down a little but of I were to change frames at any point I don’t really fancy having to buy another lefty for all.

The fact that there’s no spacers between the headset and top clamp means your Lefty won’t fit a frame with a longer head tube.

Ash – You adjust the bearing preload the same as a normal headset. You still fit a star fangled nut and top cap.
There’s a thread I started on MTBR about fitting the baseplate too.
Here’s a diagram that will come in useful:

You can’t go wrong with one of these (Merlin link). I’ve had mine a few years now and it’s been spot on.

LOL at new user creating a thread to complain about being told to google it when he didn’t get the answer he wanted.

Funnily enough, I was once asked this at work! A bloke went to borrow some baccy out of someones tin…next thing I know he’s showing me the contents and it’s some crack plus a small pipe!
The bloke it belonged to ended up getting sacked for stealing scrap metal!

I hope you’re kids aren’t driving you to it Yunki! 😆

WHY DON’T YOU LEARN TO USE GOOGLE INSTEAD
That’s a good point. It took me less than a minute to find the two links above and there are 1000’s more…just search for ‘DIY panniers’.
If you baulk at the price of a few bits of plastic designed for the job, get creative with a few fixings from your local hardware store.

It will depend on the stack height of the headset too. I’ve a bike here with a custom headtube for a Lefty. The head tube is 4.15 inches long or 105.41mm. That was designed around a Chris King headset, which has a stack height of 31.4mm. So 105.41+31.4=136.81.

As long as the overall height is less than the 137mm, it’ll be fine. The sizes above though, get away without using any spacers which makes for a tidier setup.

Edit: Are you still supposed to the deep-insert, Reset headsets on Nicolai frames? I know you can now get a tapered ‘Lefty for all’, this might be your best bet too, as I don’t know if you can get a 1 1/8″ to 1.5″ baseplate for the Reset?
I don’t think it would be wise to just have a 1 1/8th headtube on a new, expensive frame.

Time to grow your own pig I think
I know a few folk who’ve reared their own pigs and lambs…when chop time came, they’d grown too attached and ended up keeping them as pets! Cost them a fortune in vets bills.

I don’t think much of it. The bloke’s talking about adventure and he’s just pottering about on a short ride!

There were better entries. The funny thing is that the bloke who made the above vid, has just made an excellent fatbike one.

EDIT – Sorry I was wrong about these vids being by the same person. On Bikepacking.net, one goes by Area54, the other Area45!

Pokhara to Kathmandu with KE Adventure? Dec 22 to Jan 4.
Alternatively you could go to Kerala with MTB Kerala. I know it’s not in Nepal, they’re one of the few companies that do Christmas trips though.

dirk_pumpa – Do a real race and stop kidding yourself that you’re better than you really are.

I think you’ll find that a lot of folk with the the KOM’s, especially on popular segments, race or have raced anyway. 🙄

Have a look at bike pack.eu. I have just received one and the workmanship is very very good. Have not tested it out yet but it does swallow a lot of kit.
+1. No brackets to attach, water resistant and adjustable sizing (roll top like a dry bag).
The large must be massive. I’ve a medium one and it’s more than big enough for my needs.

This thread might end up costing me money! I’ve ended up looking at take-down rifles, mainly so I could carry it while on my bike. I’m wondering if many folk have had the police land though, due to some of them looking like something more powerful than an air rifle?

The precharged ones seem a bit pointless to me unless you’ve got an FAC
Not if you’re hunting at night where multi-shot ones come into their own, especially if it’s cold and you’re wearing gloves. They’re good for ratting too.

Hadge – no one was ever going know it wasn’t legal as it just looked like a normal HW80.

You should still be wary of making your rifle over the limit. If you end up in any trouble with it, the police will test it.
I bought an over the limit rifle and ended up in trouble for buying it underage. The first thing the police wanted to do was test it…luckily they didn’t as my dad told them to destroy it.

b r – not that you would expect to miss those targets, but wear glasses when shooting indoors or somewhere with the chance of ricochets. I know a couple of folk who have lost eyes due to them!

    Sorry if you already do.

I’ve had quite a few air rifles in the past…if you’re just after something for shooting a few targets, a BSA Lightning would be ideal. A simple, traditional break barrel rifle with not a lot to go wrong with it.
I’ve had some fancy multi-shot, precharged rifles. A lot of features came into their own when used for hunting, multi-shot is great at night so you’re not fumbling for pellets or struggling with gloves when it’s cold. They’re quieter too, that probably doesn’t matter to you though.

Depending on what kind of finish you want, you could get it shotblasted. I had mine done, it was already bare Ti though. The bloke who did it said he wouldn’t do another because he couldn’t see where he’d already been. He’d had to take it out of the cabinet every few minutes, so took him twice as long as he’d thought. Only cost me £25 and saved me a lot of time (saved me giving it a brushed finish).
