Have you asked this over on the Bear Bones forum…s8tannorm could be the man to ask, he likes to play with fire! 😀

I’m finding lots of cheaper stuff on Amazon these days. I needed a camera bag in a hurry last week, found one cheaper than anywhere else and signed up for the ‘Prime’ free-trial…ended up getting free next day delivery on a saturday. Been buying lots of small bits too that you would normally have to pay a couple of quid postage on.

Anybody making use of the free-trial make sure you cancel before a month is out. Otherwise it’ll cost you £49!

eBay is a great place to sell, you will always get the best price you’d possibly get for that item. Not such a good place to buy for the exact same reason.
I totally disagree with that. You pay for the advert, then they take a cut of the final price, another few percent if you’ve had a reserve, then paypal fees (owned by Ebay)! You end up getting a lot less than the price you would have sold it to a mate for.
When you buy, you know exactly what you’re paying…the price you bid.

fuzzywuzzy – ‘unless weight/packed size are critical to you’

It’s for bikepacking! Although a lot of folk obsess over weight too, it’s the packed size of things that I think is the main consideration…

EDIT: …unless you want to have a big pack on your back, panniers or a trailer.

Wild Country tents are the same as the Terra Nova ones, but with heavier/cheaper materials. Sometimes you can get good deals on the Terra Nova’s though…mine weighs less than most bivi and tarp setups!
Field and Trek often have good deals on both and things are often reduced/cleared out on the Terra Nova website.

    Edit: beaten to it.

    Matt24k – In a nutshell…. Yes.

    That is what I feared!

Creamegg – You can get them even cheaper than that now. I’m borrowing a 7D at the moment, hence wanting one…I need something weather sealed and nearly went for a Nikon D7000 as there is some very good deals on them with a lens (£619 with 3 year warranty!). The Nikons are rubbish for video though, so that’s ruled that out.

You and your mrs should leave work, go on holiday, and be ready to go out with a bang! If the world doesn’t end, said holiday will have to be classed as her xmas present…win, win, er, I think? 😕

When the BT engineer had sorted things out he asked me to do a speedtest and I was happy that it was 1Mbps faster than before (now 9Mpbs)…I’ve just received my welcome pack from TalkTalk and they reckon this is the slowest speed my line can handle!!! I should be getting between 16-19Mbps next week. 🙂

Wait so your router died and you didn’t have the technical knowledge to diagnose it yourself, so an Openreach technician came to your house and configured and installed a new one for you – £99 for that seems like a bargain to me?
BT first told me it was a problem with the line and when I checked the fault from another line it was supposed to be the exchange. If I’d know it was the router I would have replaced it myself. All this talk of configuring things too, you just plug the BT router in and it sorts itself out.

You don’t know anyone at uni do you? They can get 15% off a new one plus 3 years Applecare.
If you’re after a Macbook, there were some good deals on Amazon last week too.

Are you eating them on an empty stomach? I’m the same if I eat an apple when I get out of bed, coffee does it to me too.

    Was the forest stuff Grizedale?

Yes, it’s already been mentioned that it’s the black route, some bits are the bridleways in there too.

Trails look a bit tame though – especially the ‘fell’ bit. Surely there’s much better to go at in the Lakes.

+1, I’d be sick if I’d hike-a-biked and ended up riding down something as smooth as that! It is nicely shot though.

tthew – I agree that £50 for a new modem isn’t bad. I don’t like it when I get an unexpected £100 on top of my phonebill though. Nothing was mentioned about money…I wouldn’t expect to pay a callout charge if any other service to my house stopped working. If the engineer had said there was going to be a charge I would have had the chance to decline (I know 4-5 folk with BT routers they don’t use).

Breadcrumb – are you in a town or a village?

Go onto the Cannondale forum over on MTBR. There’s plenty of guides/videos on how to do anything Lefty related.

I’m not sure what to do regarding my bill…as I’ve just received it, BT are going to owe me some money back if I pay it (for the next couple of months line rental and broadband charges). They won’t want to give me any back if what I pay is £99 or £49.50 short. My new connection won’t be active until the end of the month either.

    ???

Keithd – I don’t use my landline for making calls.

Have you popped the cover off the mech and checked the tension on the clutch? There’s even a little spanner in there for you to adjust it.

I’ve already chose TalkTalk. Less than half the price of what I was paying with BT, unlimited too, which I wasn’t before. I didn’t want to go with Sky as I wasn’t interested in anything to do with TV.

OMITN – Luckily I’m not far from the exchange so I get 9Mbps…TalkTalk reckon it’s now going to average 16Mbps, although I’ll believe it when I see it. Some of my mates in nearby villages only get 1-2Mbps though.

    Phil – 😆

Waswas – I spoke to a few differnet folk and they all said that’s the charge! I said I was going to leave, that nothing had been mentioned about paying for the engineer to come, that I thought the charge was ridiculous, etc. etc. They said that charging me for the router instead was the best they could do.

Cheers for that. It’s saved me some time as it’s shown my only other options are Sky or TalkTalk (that’s Cumbria for you!).

Edit: The above was a reply to Cougar’s post.

Any idea how long it takes for the MOT database to be updated with the car’s valid certificate?

It should happen instantly as it’s all done on computer.

Have you have got some savings? If so, buy a van for a couple of grand until you know what money you’ve got coming in/going out. That might be easier said than done if you’re starting with nothing though.

I wonder how long it is since some folk have been to some of the places they mention?
The Bitter End in Cockermouth (my home town) did away with the stools at the bar to discourage drinkers and tried to sell more expensive food.
The 1761 is nice, but can be hit-or-miss depending on what guest ales they have on. The Castle Bar over the road sells all real ales for £2 a pint on sunday afternoons (12-6). 😀
I think the food at the Prince of Wales (Foxfield) is possibly the worst I’ve ever had. I was gagging whilst eating it, but tried to force it down as I’d had nothing else to eat all day! I would and have gone back for the beer though.

Unless you can get a job that relies on skills you have already, most others will require some kind of qualifications or experience (anything that doesn’t will be low paid). I was in a similar position a few months ago when I realised this…I’m now at uni!

mikewsmith – You’re talking about one product…have you tried their dropper seatposts (joplin), wheels, headsets or stems? All I’m going to say is that there are much better products, by other manufacturers, out there.

This 200 Lumens is fine for offroad thing…surely the faster the you go, the further down the trail you need to point your light? You’re not going to point a 200 Lumen light very far whilst still seeing clearly!

Sorry if I sound a £$%^ saying this…if you know what is wrong with your tracks, why do you bother posting such rough mixes and not more polished ones for folk to comment on? It would take a few minutes to add some compression too.
I don’t think the pad that starts in the intro and continues throughout the mix is the right one. The main line is a little too loud as well.

All the current MBP’s take 16 gb ram despite what they say on the apple site, just buy it from crucial or ebuyer etc.
    Thanks! That’s good to know.

To be honest I’d much rather by a PC laptop and put the money saved towards a new camera…I’ll need a mac next year though so I can use Finalcut, something I’m not happy about as I know it’s not the program it once was!

Pushbikerider…I’m now a student! I can get a discount on a new model, not sure if I can on a refurb. I’ll also get 3 years free Applecover on a new one.
