    Bottled water.
    <end of thread>

We don’t buy a lot – mostly just an ’emergency bottle’ on a long drive etc but, it pains me when we do.
How on earth did we get convinced that we need this stuff. How on earth are we ‘convinced’ that something the label proudly proclaims has been filtered through rock, over ‘thousands of years’ then needs a use by date…..
Too true! The folks at Evian know this all too well and thought it would be funny to have their company name as ‘naive’ backwards!

I nearly had an xmas by myself last year…I managed to go on holiday instead though. I wasn’t going to be too bothered about spending the day by myself, but everyone I knew said “you can’t do that, that’s terrible”. It was them saying that, that actually made me go on holiday. I had a few people offer me to go round to theres but I wouldn’t have felt comfortable in doing so. You’re better having a day by yourself doing what you want and enjoying it, instead of going somewhere that will be shite just to be socialable. 🙂

Seriously? Take it back as is…but expect a cleaning charge. I hire trasit vans now and again. I’d always give them a sweep out and make sure there was no rubbish left in them…and that’s a commercial van!

OP – Thanks for the English lesson, seriously. 🙂
If you really are looking for an answer to your question and aren’t just a comedy member of the grammar police. I very much doubt someone with an illegal firearm is going to out shooting in broad daylight, especially tucked up in a hide rather than being mobile. It would be far to easy to be caught unless you were in a very remote place.

Why would someone with a shotgun license, who should understand a bit about the law, shoot birds of prey in place where there is a chance of others walking about? Anybody with a licensed gun, shooting something on land where they have permission would be an absolute clown to do so. The easiest, most effective, least risky way of killing them would surely be by poisoning.
I used to shoot years ago, the amount of times the police would come to see what we were doing was ridiculous…all because someone had called them (usually a dog walker, as we weren’t near houses). To be honest, we could have told the police anything and they would have believed us. They probably thought if we were doing wrong we would have hid or ran away.

Dont sleep Xmas Eve, do somersaults under the covers with excitement to pass the time. Wait for faither to finish his swally and go to bed about 4am, sneak down the stairs only to find sister has beaten you to it
This was always the case when I was a kid. Although, as I often got computers for xmas, I’d been playing on them at least a month before, everytime my parents went out! I wasn’t really bothered about anything that wasn’t my main present.
These days I’m not bothered because I either know what the presents are or they’re usually not interesting!

Read all about it!!! Folk go out to shoot some pigeons and get accused of all kinds shocker!
Why would you think they’re shooting raptors? You’ve already said that there’s a shot crop in the field.
Pigeons in the wild are very skittish, a hide is always needed when shooting them. Using ones you have shot as decoys is standard practice too.

Plenty of custom-builders offer this option…won’t be cheap though. I’d rather buy a S/H Ibis Tranny (bolt-on rear) or similar (If it had to be a hardtail).
Couplers don’t save as much time as you would think, as you can still have problems with cables/hoses without removing parts.
I think a lot of full-sus frames would actually pack down smaller with them not having full size rear triangles.

Edit: Is your frame steel? I’ve just been reading that’s what the frame would have made from…I think that only applies when altering existing frames though.

It’s a good job I googled ‘speedier lever’ before starting my rant. I thought you were referring to their ‘speed lever’, something I once owned and nearly ended up with through my hand! The plastic is brittle and ends up shattering when faced with a stubborn tyre. I ended up slicing my hand open when using one, I should have complained but couldn’t be bothered with the hassle…at the time I was more bothered about the fact that I had nothing else to put the tyre back on with (it was a tight tubeless tyre before anyone mentions that they just use their hands!). 🙁

Shimano shoes used to be excellent and used to fit me well…I don’t know what’s happened in the last few years though? They fall to bits and the sizing has changed! 🙁

thisisnotaspoon – Depends if it’s a ROW surely? you wouldn’t need permission to walk on a footpath.

True, but you can’t do anything on the land for commercial gain/reasons (Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000).

You can buy them ready anodised in any colour you want from Project 321 (USA). I bought some from them last year…if you decide to buy some, don’t forget to account for 20% tax and £8 handling fee to Parcelfarce.

Just goes to show how much technique plays it’s part in MTB.

I remember reading something about Oli Beckingsale a year or two ago, showing that on paper he shouldn’t have been able to beat a lot of the other riders that he constantly did.

FFS not this again. Why are people who don’t own or plan to buy Apple products so obsessed with them?
Ha, too true…the funniest/saddest thing is when you hear folk going on about Dyson vacuum cleaners though (and they really are s£%%^)!

You will need some Dirhams…get them at the airport (cash machine), make sure you change them back there too. Once you’re through customs there is nowhere to do it!

As mentioned above, a trip to the hammam is worthwhile. Get covered in the savon noir (black soap) and you’ll have never been as clean in your life. An hour long, full body massage would be good and fairly cheap too.

Do get out of Marrakech, I found it too claustrophobic and was ready to leave after the first day…I’d spent the previous 5 days crossing the mountains which were amazing!

Thanks Matt, those are too big though. The fact that the outer frame on them doesn’t enclose the wheel means I can’t cut a slot for the line either (I’d rather be able to hook it on instead of having it on the line whilst setting it up).

It is only very small and cheaply made…the one in pic is part of a DIY Gopro zipline setup. It’s the screw fixing that’s got me. I searched through a few websites but can’t find anything similar. 😕

Thats a fair amount of cash!

I know, but he only ever planned on using a £100 of it…having that in his account was just to put other players off. I think he’ll still play as he used to be bad on the horses (for years). He lost interest in them after the poker, something he couldn’t believe himself!

dont get mugged in by this shit, i know people that regularly win hundreds and the occasional thousands, you never get to hear of their TRUE losses

True enough. The bloke I know seemed to know what he was doing. I’m not saying it’s something that anyone can decide they want to do and be good at.

A bloke I used to work with used to only play after 11pm on fridays and saturdays…this was so that a lot of the folk he was playing against had got back in from the pub or had been drinking at home. He’d always have £5-600 in his account and only play tables with a £20 buy-in. This way he could bluff and bully other players who only had £20-30, who would be out if they played loose. He would regularly win more than £1000 over the weekend, by his own admission the times he would lose was when he got too greedy or didn’t know when to walk away. I don’t know which site he played through though.

I seem to rememeber sections where it the drop from the path was all rocky and steep to the lake shore

It’s not scary if you don’t look at that and watch where you’re going instead! 😛

The camera will be a Canon 7D. I’ll be buying it as body only as I can’t find many kits with a smaller zoom lens. This might work out better as I’ll be buying a more specific lens.
I nearly bought a Nikon d7000 with a 18-55 lens and was going to get a 50mm prime lens too. I’m getting a 7D though as that is what I’m borrowing (and getting used to) at the minute and could do with the video capabilities of it over the Nikon.
I haven’t got mega bucks to spend but need a DSLR for the outdoor media degree that I’m currently doing. I’m finding I can’t get far enough away from my subject (especially in woods) with the 18-55 and 18-135 lenses I’ve had access to.
As for carrying, I’ve already got a chest-mounted pack for quick access …when I say taking mountain biking pics, I’ll actually be taking a lot of the pics whilst on rides! I would have bought a smaller camera for this but need something to cover everything on my course. My pack also fits inside a bigger bag I’ve got for when I’m not on the bike and need more kit.

I nearly crashed into a walker on the North downhill at Whinlatter, he didn’t see me coming because he was going in the same direction as me. When I confronted him he said he didn’t think anyone would be using the trail that late in the day!!! 😕 😯

‘Borrowdale Bash’ starting at Keswick or go and do ‘Hodge Close, Iron Keld and Loughrigg’ towards Ambleside. I would suggest Grizedale too but it helps to know your way about down there.
There should be plenty of route guides or downloads of them (if you’ve a GPS).

trevh – If you’re planning on doing any video, go with the 7D. The video on the Nikon isn’t as good and it can only shoot 5 minute long files! If that doesn’t matter to you, Portus Digital have D7000’s for £619 with a 18-55 lens and 3 year warranty! They also sell the body for £50-60 less. Which of course a lot cheaper than a 7D by the time you buy a lens too. Also the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lenses are an excellent purchase…great for biking pics and cost about £70, the same can’t be said for the equivalent Canon lens.

Water is supposed to be beneficial to meths burners. Something like 5% addition.

That’s only to make it burn less sooty so your pots don’t get as dirty.

I went to Morocco at the end of last January…there should be some info posted about it on here. A lot will depend on what kind of riding you’re looking for too. I went with Freeride Morocco (it’s not a ‘freeride’ holiday though!?!).

EDIT: I’ve just seen they’re fully booked for Jan.
