Forget about the tune! You don’t even know if it needs it! You tune a shock so that it does what you want over what it did/didn’t do before.

funny as lots of riders have been having problems with kings freezing up and generally being a bit crap in cold conditions. Nothing funnier than watching someone having to wee on their favourite bling hubs to get them to work again
When the last time time you actually saw this happen? King changed the ring-drive lube years ago to combat this. If you’ve seen it in recent years, I can bet that they hadn’t been serviced with the correct lube. 🙄

Shouldn’t be, you’ll probably get some photocopied instructions though.

Cougar are you sure about that? They say all taxes are included.

If you’re worried about them, try Portus Digital instead. Will cost your you a fiver more if you’re looking at one with a kit lens (SLRhut charge postage) and they’re good to deal with. Like most of these cheap websites, they are imports but you get a warranty with the seller. The good thing is they offer Hong Kong prices without having to import them yourself.

For the money you can’t go wrong, you should be able to get one with a kit lens for not much more than £500. Apart from the results, I think most folk choose them due to the swivel screen.

I love my Pearl Izumi Amphib’s, no good if the temperature is above 3-4 degrees C as they get too warm!

They’re rebranded ‘Source’ bladders…I recommend them too, especially the newer ones with the clip-off hose.

I’ve always got on with the Sombrio Highline Epik’s…so much so, I bought a few pairs when I saw some in a sale.

I’m not worrying, but true, it probably won’t happen. 🙁

DON’T USE BRITISH GAS! My Grandma had a water leak in her central heating and British Gas quoted her thousands to fix the problem…mainly due to concrete floors and buried pipes. My dad sent a plumber he uses round and it was fixed for a £100! My dad did have to go round and fill the hole back in but it only needed a bucket-full of concrete. BG were going to dig the whole floor up in the hallway and replace all the pipes!!!

I paid a slight premium for my Canon G12 because I could pick it up the next day, staff in Dundee were clued up.I had left it to the last min and they brought one overnight from Glasgow to ensure I had a camera to take on holiday the next day, again; try that on the internet.

Have you not heard of next day delivery guaranteed before a cetain time? There is nothing stopping anyone from phoning/emailing the online seller and getting them to post with a different option from those listed on their site.

That said i’ve spent a lot of money over the years on camera kit and the majority of it through jessops; after all you can handle the items before you part with your cash.

I prefer taking advantage of distance selling regs. Sometimes ordering a few similar items to see which one I prefer. Also, here in West Cumbria there isn’t the same range of shops in our towns, ordering online saves me wasting a day driving to the nearest city.

Well I know when I bought my camera the other month Jessops were far from the cheapest. Their lens prices are (sorry, were) ridiculous too!

I don’t know why anyone is surprised…those of you who have bought things from them are in the minority and are not clued up. Anyone who thinks their prices are close to internet prices don’t know how to use a search engine properly. Get used to high street shops closing down…internet shopping is crippling them. Everytime I see a new shop open I feel sorry for the owners, they’d be better getting some tech skills and selling online instead. If you need advice on what you’re buying, look it up or look at buyers reviews…who takes advice off sales people, especially in big chain stores?!? 🙄

What did you make of the Sneck Lifter? It’s too dark for me. I live in the town where it’s brewed. I used to get to go on the brewery tours through a Jennings pub I used to frequent…it was always a free bar so we’d try to have a pint of everything they made in the short space of time we had. If I tried to do that now, I’d spew halfway through trying!

For what? Seems completely pointless to me – isn’t the point of an SLR that you look through the nice bright view finder?

Video, but for anything else I agree.

I’m laughing at those saying go for the 7D if you can stretch to it…the cheapest you can get one for (with lens) is just a touch under a grand, more than twice the price of any of the cameras mentioned. 🙄
I’d been lending one and was hoping to buy my own due to the quality, mag body and sealing…I ended up buying a Nikon D7000 due to the similar specs but much lower price. Turns out that I like the Nikon more! It has more in-built features plus more buttons which give greater control without having to go into the menus.
For anyone looking at importing…have a look at Portus Digital[/url]. They sell imports but you buy them here in the UK, for similar prices as those from Hong Kong and come with a dealer warranty. I bought my Nikon from them for £619 with lens. 🙂

I’d much rather have the 60D. It has an info screen on top of the camera, I wouldn’t want a DSLR without that. I prefer to see the settings without using the main screen or looking through the viewfinder. The screen that pops out would be better for shooting video and protects the screen when folded away too. It is also more solidly built, more like a plastic 7D, meaning it’s sealed better from the elements.

Serious question; why would you/anybody want a touch screen on a DSLR?

+1 on this! I’m currently using a Nikon D7000 and love all the extra buttons on the outside. This is so I can change settings without going into the menus and using the screen. You’d be constantly having to clean the screen when checking your shots too.

sugdenr – Can’t believe I overlooked that myself! I have dual control levers on my bikepacking bike, I’m taking it that’s what you use?

OP – “I’d prefer to have a fit it and leave it BB” – No BB is fit and forget! How many miles do you do or are planning on doing? Normally those who build their own bikes don’t mind doing a bit of maintenance. I use Chris King BB’s and put fresh grease in them every year…so far I haven’t had to replace one.

I’d always go on holiday given the chance, although that option would probably cost more money.

A full bike costs a lot more in tax than parts too.

Spray-on rather than wash-in…wash-in can restrict the breathability of Goretex, etc.(IMHO), others may disagree. I think you can use an iron on a low heat if you haven’t a drier too.

stAn-Bad Brains MBC – Notice the word ‘becoming’, most decent 9sp parts have stopped being made so I still stand by my point. There would be no reason for anyone chosing anything less than 10sp if needing to buy a whole groupset IMHO.

    Hot chocolate and Cointreau!
I mixed the two together to get rid of the bottle I’d had on top of my freezer for years.

    I hear what you’re saying d45yth!

My first point to ponder is which BB to go for…..or should I get cranks first then be forcerd in to a certain BB purchase??

Was told yesterday to go for square taper or octalink as will last longer (hopefully) than the type with bearings on ‘outside’……?
Like I said, it can depend on the frame with a lot of new ones having press-fit BB’s. If the frame has a standard, English, screw-in type, I’d go for a decent quality external BB (Hope, CK, etc.).
Who told you to use square taper or Octalink?!? Someone with grey hair and a beard I’d guess? 😛

EDIT: If you’re going to build a mountain bike with new parts, chose current 10sp ones. Chose anything else and you’re going to be limiting yourself…8-9sp parts are becoming harder to get hold of except at the lower end of the market (or the opposite with some niche brands/components). A lot of the discontinued parts often cost more than the equivalent 10sp too!

OP – I don’t think any bike building books will tell you the pro’s and cons of differents parts…especially BB’s as they are usually frame specific, although adapters can be used on some.

Spin – I love Dalbeattie. Best of the 7 Stanes IMO.

I also like rocky riding so that fits with Dalbeattie.

    Seriously?!? 😕
OP – You shouldn’t really need a map as they’re both waymarked well enough. Are you doing both in the same day? If so, do Kirroughtree first when your legs are fresh. Dalbeattie’s easy with no real hills…either serves as a warm up the day before or for a quick, short blast on the way home.

mboy – Neither remotely as good as the Rubber Queen, or a Minion. Trust me!

Totally disagree…I felt like I was going to lose teeth with a Rubber Queen on the front. I had to keep letting pressure out to find anywhere near the required grip but then the sidewall would fold. The Minion I’m using has never felt like that (just a standard, 2.35 folding too).

    d45yth

I hated using a Rubber Queen on the front. I’d came from using Minion’s too…they soon went back on. I prefer the continuous knobs that most Maxxis tyres have along their edge. The Rubber Queen’s have more of a zigzag and I found that that can let go suddenly when leaned over.

Edit: If I ever fancy a change, I’ll be trying Schwalbe Hans Dampf’s or Bontrager XR4’s.

Dirk_pumpa’s word was true enough. The OP has always been the biggest timewaster on here, especially regarding other peoples sales. Also throwing hissy fits when folk didn’t reply to his posts…something he would usually do himself after saying he was interested in buying something from you!?!
I was surprised at the support he got after mentioning his troubles, I think this makes it even worse to those he’s messing about! 🙄

Have you a Go Outdoors near you? They’ve a few different Thermarest ones for around half-price. Maybe above your budget but for anyone else out there, they’re selling full-length Neoairs for £65 or £50 for smalls!

Yeah, it works well…it was one of the reasons I went for a Sony when buying a waterproof camera.

You just pic the direction you want and you’re good to go. It takes a couple of goes to find out what speed you need to do it at.

If your subject isn’t quite as wide as full-panoramic you end up with a section of black at the end of the pic, that can soon be removed once on your computer though.
