I refuse to believe kitsbow is not a spoof

There’s plenty of reviews of their kit out there, some of it here in the UK.

The Kitsbow site is real sure enough, plenty of industry folk have been testing the kit. It reminds me of those old Titus ads, that looked like they were for expensive cars and had pictures of blokes with grey hair in them. 😀

Keswick Bikes now stock Salsa, they’re having a demo weekend on the 6-7th July too.

I know of the Surgu Dam in Turkey…not sure if it can go out of date anytime soon though. 😉

Crashtestmonkey, thanks for writing that…I was in the middle of writing something similar. I cringed when reading Bikeind’s last comments too.

The bit about customers walking out empty handed…if you haven’t got what they came in for, it’s too bad isn’t it. 🙄

I’d go off a different map to that Bogtrotters one. I can see that they’ve tried to include a few more offroad sections…they don’t really work though. After Watendlath they’ve taken the first gate on the descent, you’re better off going through the second one (goes straight to Rosthwaite). Then after that the route goes onto the Cumbrian Way to Stonethwaite Bridge…that’s not worth doing in my opinion and I’d just do the short road section instead.

I wish someone had posted the proper map and I wouldn’t have had to write this! 😀

There are ‘alternative’ diversions you can take. The main one is near the start, but it will be quite muddy up there at the moment.

EDIT: The link above includes one diversion that follows the footpath up to Watendlath…that’s worth doing unless it’s busy (nice weather, popular time of day, weekend, etc.)

If you’ve got the legs. It would depend which Skiddaw route too…I wouldn’t recommend tinas suggestion. 🙂

If you print the route out, it’s easy. There are quite a few road sections and it goes round Derwentwater, so there’s plenty of things to go off.

Beware of any internal flights…they can’t guarantee oversized baggage will get on if it’s busy! That was a dealbreaker for me when I was supposed to be going on an organised trip.

I’m very jealous of folk who use these type of bikes on a regular basis.

Reading this thread I don’t understand why everyone doesn’t have an utility bike / trailer

Too much wet weather and bad/narrow roads?

andypaul99 – he is pre qualifying you to ensure you can afford it, such behaviour is normall at Porsche and Mercedes, a bit sad that a bike shop feels the need..

All he should have done was ask what bikes I already had…he would soon have known I wasn’t messing about. I’m not well off either, it’s just I’m prepared to spent more on bike kit than what I do on most other stuff.

I can think of a couple of employees of lbs’ (as opposed to the owners) who come across very haughty/superior

+1. I was looking to buy a carbon Santa Cruz frame from a certain Lakes bike shop…the bloke serving told me the one I was looking at had just been bought a dentist and then asked me what I did for a living! If that wasn’t bad enough, he then asked my mate a few questions about my employment too!
I bought a similarly priced frame a week or two later, from somewhere where my business was more welcome. 🙂

The sil-tarp kind are less than half the weight of cheaper types. Look for impregnated material rather than coated.

ride it when you’re there then it’s legitamelly used

    I’m after frame only

Use you imagination! Put some grease in the B/B threads and rub a bit of mud on the rest of it (or dust). 😉

I had actually read articles about the Blackmagic a while ago, but it looked different to the one above, sort of wedge shaped.

That’s the current camera that has had a few problems and can only shoot upto 2.5k. The one above is a lot smaller and can shoot upto 4k, although doing so requires some serious storage space.

One thing I should mention for those that don’t know, it doesn’t take stills. This will rule it out for many I would have thought, especially with what Magic Lantern are doing with the Canon DSLR’s firmware.

    Fill us in then!

There is already loads of info out there!

I think some of the folk commenting have no idea on what it is and what it can do. 🙂

I know a few folk who have pre-orders on these…the x3 crop would put me off though.

    Sorry for the confusion.
I want to buy a frame out the states and bring it back.
I thought I’d have to take something out with me to be able to bring a new one home.
Can you fit a frame into a suitcase?

No confusion here. Is it a full-sus you’re thinking of buying? If so, you just take the swingarm off. If not, you need a bigger suitcase. 😀

EDIT: Post any receipts or documentation back home too.

No need to take one out with you. Just fetch the new one back in a suitcase rather than a bike bag/box. Try to make the frame look used and say it was second hand if anyone asks.

Best bet if you’re unsure is to…

look on the manufacturers website and see if there are any exploded tech diagrams to look at or download.

EDIT: Sorry, I’d missed the bit about your frame being an Orange. I take it must be a downhill model or Alpine 160 if it’s got the washers? Best bet would be to contact them and see if they’ll send you some out.

What kind of frame is it? Is there not a bearing kit available that comes with more than just bearings?

I buy their bike gear that’s made out of Windstopper and Goretex AS…that’s for those materials’ properties though. Would I buy any of their other gear…probably not, as there is better looking and cheaper kit out there.

EDIT: Almost forgot, their Lycra stuff is good and lasts a long time.

To be honest, you should never have posted this. You never know who might see it now. The fact your username is close to whatever your real name is and your email is in your profile doesn’t help.

EDIT: Remember if you do sell and the buyer ever returns it to Apple for a repair, things could start to get interesting.

Do you know where he’s from? If so, see if he’s on Facebook. I had bother with someone off Pinkbike sending me a camera lens…they soon sent it when I posted something on their page! You’d be able to see if there was any recent activity too.

I’ve been dumped out a few times on switchbacks and had a couple of scary high speed moments. Anyone else experienced this or is it just me?

It’s not you, it’s RQ’s, they’re rubbish on the front (IMHO)! Why anyone would design a tyre with a zigzag tread on the outer edges is beyond me! At least the Butcher and HD tyres have continuous knobs on the edges…I prefer Minions myself though.

I owned a Black Widow catapult, a automatic centre-punch, Rambo survival knives, other knives, throwing stars (sharpened), air rifle etc.

+1. It’s a good job I never got stopped by the police, we used to ‘borrow’ tools out of my grandads shed for doing some trail maintenance…they included axes and billhooks!

I’ve had this. It seems that you need to make sure both bolts are done up evenly. Cleaning the rails and putting some grease in there won’t hurt either.

I always scratch my head at the fatties who turn up and just lift weights

Often the folk who have been going for years and have never changed their routine, as opposed to folk new to it and trying to lose weight.

There have been write-ups about it on MTBR (I think), I looked into going a couple of years ago. I’m sure it’s supposed to be great, I can’t remember exactly where I was reading up on it though. If you’re going to be out there anyway, you can’t go wrong for the price…swap you brakes around now, so you don’t smash your teeth out over there! 😀

    Helvellyn route looks amazing.

That particular one doesn’t take some of the best bits Helvellyn can offer.

EDIT: After looking some of the other routes on that site, it would seem the rider (or whoever submitted them) has a penchant for hike-a-biking up excellent descents?!? 😕

Like others have said, return it. I was only answering the original question.

if you would need to heat the dent first though.

The frame will have been heat-treated. You want nothing trying heat it up…it will alter the properties of the material and/or distort it.
The reason steel is popular for touring frames is because they can easily be repaired (unlike aluminium).

EDIT: I’d have more confidence in boring the headtube out and removing the material stopping the headset from going in. May sound extreme, but would cause less damage than anything else. Of course, doing that would depend on how much material would remain in the dented area.

Using a dropper post should be as easy as changing gear. Anyone who thinks an underseat lever is better than a remote isn’t using one to its full potential. 😕

im a tradesman so thats where the pickup has come from, used a warrior in the past

Did you not find the back too small and poor for sercurity? Anyone I know who bought one for work seemed to get one because of the looks foremost, then promptly got rid when they realised the impracticalities.
