Strip the branches off any trees along the side of biking trails and use the remaining trunks to impale thieves on…oh, how we’d laugh as we ride past them. Their stench would help improve our Stava times too! 😈

EDIT: I nearly got charged with some firearms offences when I was 15/16…it was the my local Youth Justice Team that stopped it going to court, they argued that I’d struggle to find a job if I’d been charged. I think my dad owning a local business may have helped my case, but I still take my hat off to them.

Discoduck – “so if I were you I’d ride harder!”…if I rode any harder my balls would be so big I wouldn’t be able to sit on my saddle comfortably! 😀 Ha, seriously though, I’m currently a (mature) student and my course has practical elements to it…if I miss any of those I’d fail the course basically, meaning I’d have to start again the following September (something I definitely wouldn’t want to do!).

Dandax1990 – I know what it’s like when you can’t get out and do the things you’re used too (knackered my ankle a couple of years ago). I hope you get everything sorted out soon! I see you’ve been looking at getting into bikepacking too, do some research and get some trips planned while you have the time. You could do some one-nighters from your house (depending on where you live I guess) and with a bit of luck you might get a few in before the weather gets too cold.

Adobe InDesign? You could download the CS2 version for free.

I think I’m sorted…AEG double oven, gas hob, extractor, built-in dishwasher and a built-in Gorenje fridge/freezer (5 year guarantee) for round about £1500. Out of the brands I was looking at, I can’t get anywhere close to this price with Bosch or Siemens.

Cheers for the suggestions. I think I might order everything I need from ‘Appliance World’, unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Towhoward is correct…it’s only the SD hub that can be setup for a 9mm QR (or 15mm). I bought the larger diameter so that I could use 15mm or 20mm, knowing I’d never use a standard QR again.

The Oury Lock-ons are a chunky grip…I took mine off as they were too big for me. On-One should have them cheap. They might be available in different colours too.

Cheers for the extra info. I went to Kirroughtree instead, although plan to do it next week if the weather’s good.

Pah, looks like no Thomas Tosh for me though…closed on Sundays. 🙁

Good stuff! I’ll be doing it tomorrow! 🙂

Turn left up the hill not down it and hit the river trail off the hill although leaves a nasty road section back to riks

That must be Glendyne Burn is it? It’s mentioned in the book where I saw the route, but just says it’s hard to find and doesn’t elaborate. Sorry, I realise you’re meaning close to the end.

Ha, if it was real, the security guard would be dead (or subdued) and the money would be gone!

Nothing to add. It just reminds me of when I meet idiotic families (not with bikes) walking up sections (at other trail centres), or even worse walking with the flow so they can’t see you coming! The excuses I’ve heard range from ‘we didn’t think anyone would be here at this time of night’ (7PM in Summer!), to ‘we didn’t think folk would go so fast’. Don’t get me started on nobbers fixing mechanicals in the middle of the trail! 👿

Is there anything you don’t like about the shock currently on your 575? As you know the ISX6 is highly adjustable…maybe it’s downfall, as it can take some time to dial in if you don’t know what you’re doing or trying to achieve. There should still be some in depth guides on how to get the best from them over on MTBR. It’s an excellent shock for curing problems with certain suspension designs.

If it’s the one where you can adjust the dial on the piggyback by hand (4 settings), it’s for changing the bottom out resistance…great for quickly changing it for different terrain/jumps/drops.

EDIT: If I hadn’t have broken my Intense, I would have bought it off you in a shot if you decided to sell it.

No, a Race Face Sixc. The axle had a bit of surface rust. I’d always used their Deus Ex chainsets without a problem. It hadn’t been removed since fitted though and it has done at least 2000K.

    EDIT: Cheers BadlyWiredDog.

Scotroutes, this should answer a lot of what you want to know: Spot Track Progress. The basic, yearly sub is 99E + another 39E for the live tracking.

The garmin edge 810 has live tracking

“The LiveTrack feature allows your friends and family to follow your races and training activities in real time. Invite followers using email or social media, so they can view your live data on a Garmin Connect tracking page. Once they get your email invite, they can click to follow and see your stats and location on the map.”
Does that not work by it linking to your phone? If so, it will be reliant on having a signal and the phone’s battery life…a waste of time if out in the wild or on multiday trips. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

    EDIT: Sorry, too slow!

Nipper99, if you’ve an idea on what angles you’d like or would like something a bit different to off-the-shelf, have a look at Triton[/url]. Less than 1k for a custom frame (unless you chose lots of options), they have a loyal following and make some very nice stuff!

The standover is about the same on all of them, the larger ones just having more seat-tube sticking up above the top-tube.

Do you think the seller could be dodgy or you just want to see the bike first? I’ve bought and sold stuff for more than £700, from/to random strangers…all using Paypal. Why are you averse to using them? Doing it that way, as well as using a tracked courier, is there really that much that can go wrong?

I’m always more bothered about buyers, rather than sellers (unless a deal seems too good to be true).

I think you maybe more interested in views rather than quality of trails, especially suggesting that! Even ridden in both directions, back to back, it has no decent descents…fast maybe, decent, no! 😀

    I give up
Have you rode every trail in and around Grizedale? I do a route that takes in every decent descent (minus the one to Nibthwaite) around there and the surrounding areas…I can’t suggest to the OP, as I don’t know all the names of them.

There are some good trails around the Dunnerdale Fells, I can’t argue there. Do you really think there is as much of a concentration of decent trails though?

EDIT: I hadn’t seen your ‘second thoughts’ edit Stabiliser. 🙂

Better in grizedale than in the Dunnerdales? Mmmmm,

‘Around’ Grizedale, yes! It tastes much better. 🙂

You’d be better off biking from Coniston and doing some trails around Grizedale…I guarantee you’ll have more of a smile on your face after doing the descents/trails around there, than you would doing Walna.

EDIT: Take heed of MH’s suggestions.

It may sound obvious, but only move somewhere that fits in with your lifestyle. I wanted to live in/near a city for years, I was reluctant to leave my family’s business though…now I’m older, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in England (I live in the Lakes). I could be tempted by certain areas of Scotland, but as others have said, the right jobs can be hard to find.

Nice pics! You’re one place ahead of me on Strava too. I was lucky enough not to encounter any walkers, but had to stop for my mate who was on his XC hardtail a few times…I wrongly told him it wasn’t as rocky as I’d thought!

I used to work for my dad’s roadworks company. I never got any advances from the opposite sex whilst digging holes…had plenty look down their noses at me in my dirty clothes though, maybe I needed somekind of uniform? 😀

EDIT: Maybe I wouldn’t have left if I had been!

If there’s nothing wrong with the frame, surely you’re not going to be able to buy a new full-sus for what the new parts are going to cost? I suppose the only way it could get close to that is if you need wheels and a fork too?

EDIT: Is it not just the bike shop trying to get you to buy a complete bike?

    d45yth

To add to the last comment…for those of you thinking I ride footpaths all the time, who cares if there are walkers about. There are certain sections which would be dangerous if you met anyone, especially the first part off Skiddaw.

Just do it in the evening. You’ll be fine on your hardtail too…it’s not as rocky as a lot of other Lakes descents.
