I reckon they’ll have 20% off Boardman’s if not all bikes at the next bank holiday.

Just thought I’d update this thread.

    As I mentioned up there:
“That giant conduct system looks spot on for my single speed to replace some BB5 which are great but require a lot of attention. Has anyone used it, what’s it like?”

Thanks to rhid, I have now fitted the giant conduct system to my singlespeed and I thought I would report back my findings:

    1. Fitting is pretty straight forward, far easier than I thought it might be.
    2. Bleeding is also pretty simple, having brought the basic tektro bleed kit (which comes with a couple of spare olives). As easy as shimano if not easier.
    3. The cable run is very short but even with compressionless cables, there is a lot of lever throw. (I even re-bled the brakes to see if this could be improved). Its not a major problem and is fairly consistent with my RS685 hydro. I may be able to improve it by removing the wheels and pumping the pistons a bit further (something I tend to do with the RS685)
    4. Power is lacking a bit, this is probably because I have used pads and used rotors (which haven’t previously been used together) I expect this will improve following proper bedding in.

Overall, I am impressed with this as a pretty good value solution. It opens up using triple chainsets with a hydro solution and also useful in the scenario I have, a useful hybrid hydro solution for a singlespeed disc bike. its not as good as my RS685, but its significantly cheaper.

I reckon your friend is right for the reasons they suggest.

For a lot of people the descents make the ride, especially big rides in the Alps and Pyrenees and I’ve seen a few comments on here and the gcn guys saying that droppers can improve descending on a road bike. They are already being specced on gravel bikes and as they get lighter and more reliable they’ll start to trickle into road bikes.

I’m not personally convinced by the benefits, but I think it’ll happen.

Can’t give you any experience, but wait until the bank holiday and they tend to do 20%off.

Just run a hacksaw blade through the crown race. It’ll fit straight on.

Had a nightmare with these. Spent a fair whack on the fumigators and other treatments. Thought we got on top of it, following the instructions to the letter, but they came back. Binned the carpet and rugs in the end and then fumigated and treated.

As you say clearing the rooms to treat them was the biggest nightmare.

    Good luck

Just use a bike box and fill it out, or cut it down.

Agree the camera is poor, otherwise it’s a great phone. The rear cover is fragile, it cracks like glass, so put a good case on it.

Cheers for the update. Re oval chainring I found moving to an oval chainring was no problem, but jumping on a bike without one felt odd and seemed to really highlight the deadspots.

I asked a similar question last week about the non rs version

    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/trp-hylex/

Seem well regarded. Anyone know what the difference is between the rs version and the standard one??

I have a couple of moon comets which are fantastic. Although frustratingly the latest one I bought didn’t come with an undersaddle mount, luckily someone in here had one in exchange for a charitable donation.

Bumper cars on the pier is about all I can think of. The only other place is the tank driving place at findon.they seemed pretty chilled about activities you could do but not sure what they offer the under 12s.

Not sure why I’m justifiying my views in this topic, but here goes..

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with cable operated. I use quality outer with in line cable adjusters and with work I can set up my BB5 really well. But when I upgraded to hydro (on my other bike) these provided an increase in power and they are much quicker to set up. So I consider them a compromise.

I wonder how many on here run cable operated discs on their mountain bikes??

Thanks all. I’m completely aware of the irony here.

Cable discs, nothing terrible I’ve used them for years but I just find them a bit fiddly (the bike is used mainly as a commuter) and not as powerful as their hydro cousins.

The brakes are due for replacing and I think the chain set will too, so I was looking at upgrading to a hydro groupset, but they are so expensive compared to an MTB groupset.just looking at it as an option really.

If it’s as old it’s possible the bearings are borked. In which case whatever you do probably will be in vain. How easy the bearings are to replace I don’t know??

I dont know this headset specifically, but i doubt very much that cartridge bearings will slot into a headset designed for caged bearings.

I had a tricross that you could remove the caged bearings and some other metal work to let some cartridge bearings fit straight into the frame. Don’t know if that will work in your scenario??
