Anyone know, what is the X517 current equivalent? (but without a brake surface as it will be used for disc)

    Cheers all,

Next question, the bar mount is rubbish, doesnt even seem to fit oversize bars. Any solutions?

    Another smudge light user here.

    Really impressed with it.

Can compare it favourably to an Exposure diablo and a Joystick.

Never had much drift on my flow.

Always found the PT and flow to give consistently different readings.

What avdave says. The 100 is tough on a good day with a lot of light. At the moment conditions are deteriorating and the chalk is slippery.

If you can get a really cold day with a ground frost it might make it a little more appealing

    Cheers all,

Anyone built a homemade piggyback? Or found a cheaper alternative??

Is it just a case of getting the right battery or is there a driver in there?

Pop into the Giant store in Shoreham, and ask for Rob. He might be able to help you out.

    Yeap, like Clubbers

cable should go half way round the small pulley out the hole at about 12 o’clock and follow round the big pulley before exiting

I had a puncture on the way home from work last week, pump gave up the ghost so rang home for a lift, shouldered the bike and started walking in that direction.

I was amazed when 2 car drivers stopped (at seperate times) to see if I needed any help or a lift.

Next day there was another person who had a puncture, I stopped to check he was all sorted. Luckily he was, as I hadn’t replaced the broken pump.

Sort of, we were staying outside the Alps (so below) and headed in to the Alps for a day to ride the Marmotte route. Its fairly straight forward to get some good routes sorted out.

Do yourself a favour though, stay with these guys:

    http://www.velovercors.com/

This area of France is perfect for cycling, Roger is an excellent host and you’ll find miles of quiet roads.

But as above, wait until next year

+1 for the smudge light, I have been astounding by the value, esp compared to Exposure etc.

I have seen people refer to problems with the £35 XML lights, but has anyone had any bad experiences with them??

In that case chiefgrooveguru, I owe you a huge thanks for leading us round the woods on Tuesday.

6 of us have been riding round Stanmer for the last few Tuesdays, crashing our way through the undergrowth to find new trails, usually getting lost and falling off a bit too often.

On Tuesday we sort of followed the BrightonMTB crew up one of the fireroads, they not only let us tag along, but they took the time to show us how to ride various sections and provide lots of coaching & advice.

All this disrupted their ride no end, but the guys were brilliant and patient. You’ll be hard pushed to find a nicer bunch of cyclists.

    Enjoy riding with them bunners.

Not quite the same thing, but I put a 100mm fork on my non-suspension corrected Stumpjumper (it is that old!) and it took a few changes to get the position dialled in, but it didn’t overly upset the geometry.

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I am looking to turn my geared mtb into a singlespeed.

I am sure I’ll need a chain tensioner, whats best? Jockey wheel or roller?

Can I use a standard front chain ring or would a long tooth be better? If so, from where should I get a long tooth?

z1ppy, which adapter did you use in the end?

To be honest I dont fancy spending £22 on one when there seem to be others around £8

    bump for the morning crew.

Looks like I can’t use a shimano rear mech with the Sram shifters. Do I have to use an X-0 rear mech, or will an X-9 mech work for example?

Much difference in performance between the 2?

    (9speed by the way)

Looks like the mech has been ripped off because the jockey wheels have seized – anyone else had this?

Despite living a handful of miles from Stanmer, this was my first Big Dog.

I haven’t done any mountain bike racing for a while, and the format of this event seems a long way from the old cross country racing I am used to, much more friendly and easy going.

Truly amazing event and the course was superb, thanks to all those responsible for putting this on.

You’ll be needing some 57mm drop brakes. Sounds like you are putting standard drop brakes onto a winter frame.

So I am assuming the avid BB5/7 road brake is designed to run with a standard road lever?

As I am currently running v brakes and therefore running V brake compatible brake levers – will the standard bb5/7 work with these??
